1. Boy Recon, If Gyrene and Harpooner both don't show, maybe Duke would let you and I do battle for the right to move on to the third round. I too do not particularly want to advance with a TKO. Treeeburst155 out.
2. WineCape has requested I post the following to the forum: Greetings Gentleman! I'm reading this Invitational thread on my *slow* internet enabled mobile here in the middle of Africa (will be back home in the RSA coming Friday latest) It takes 4 min. plus to D/L a single page (without the graphic smilies!) on this handheld piece of mine. A few things have to be said, slow brandwith or not: -- Firstly, I'd like to thank Claymore for adding the extra prize to ours - a bottle of Islay Scotch or $100. Much, much appreciated sir! -- Secondly, my thanks/gratitude to our Tourney Manager, Treeburst155, for his persistence in plugging away, tediously looking for e-mail addresses here on the Forum so people can be invited. Hard going due to the fact that the search function on the forum being almost kaput. Well done Mike, I see you have managed to gather some fine combatants, gentlemen, not so gentlemen and even those dreaded ghosts in haunted Pengville! --Thirdly to the Poolers: Kindly note that your men are on LOAN to us. I thank the Elders from the cesspool for giving us your bright Stars! When they have finished this tourney, please take them back to your 'pool as I'm afraid they might like it too much in the outerboards! --Fourthly, to all those that have accepted our invites so far to this Invitational; may this tourney be of enormous fun to each other, played in a good spirit to HONOUR the creators, CHARLES, STEVE et al of this beautiful, well crafted piece of software, an enigma called Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord. May either the best PBEM player, best insulter, best so- so player, best historian or best grognard win in great style! You are all 'Best Men' in our book. Kind regards, Charl Theron
3. TeAch and BradleyH have completed their secure version of the BadCo Endgame Randomizer. I think the BER adds to the fun and realism of the game, especially QB's. I highly recommend you guys use it in your tourney games.
4. TeAch and BradleyH have completed their secure version of the BadCo Endgame Randomizer. I highly recommend you guys use it for your games. I think it adds substantially to the fun of the game.
5. We have another CM Beta-tester who has accepted our invitation!! Let's hear a big round of applause for STEN!!! ......... Did you hear that, Sten? They love you. Then again, maybe they just want to crush you on the field of battle. Welcome aboard, Sten! In other news, you may have noticed that TeAch and BradleyH have completed their secure version of the "BadCo Endgame Randomizer". I highly recommend its use in your games. This is another thing that is to be negotiated between players. Keep in mind your games will be 25 turns and you are in effect playing a scenario, not a QB. You will only be able to shorten the games. The maps will be on the small side for a 1,500 pt. battle so I think a 21-25 turn game would work well. YOu all know the game better than I do so decide amongst yourselves. I just thought I'd put the info out because I think you would enjoy using the BER as much as I do.
6. Hey, good to hear Germanboy is still active. I know just the guy to play this one with. Are ya listening, Mick?
7. I've got a very strong feeling I'm going to waltz right into Round #3. Harpooner is without a doubt AWOL. He hasn't even sent in his force pick to Duke yet as far as I know. I hope he doesn't expect me to drop real life at the drop of a hat for an 11th hour TCP/IP game. I need a little notice before I can do that since I have company visiting from 2,000 miles away until the 25th. I'm willing to twist my schedule around for him as much as possible however. OK, enough of my personal problems. Are you out there Harpooner? Let's commence to kickin' each other's ass. I've got a gamey setup you're gonna love to hate.
8. Our latest addition to the tourney is TEXAS TOAST! He placed 2nd in Iron Duke's "Asskicker of the Month Tourney" and our scouting reports indicate the list of players he's toasted is the size of Texas! Welcome aboard, Texas Toast!!
9.
quote:
Originally posted by Stalin's Organ: Works for me - the Brit airborne are quite cheap tho'! But then they're only half-SMG - the hassle with using them alone is that yuo can't even get guns with them, 'cos they don't have the required trucks to tow them!! However I quite like using them in non-CAL games - all Airborne except supporting vehicles and armour (and I tell my opponent so). 3" and 4.2" mortars are good enough for arty - they're dirt cheap and pack a punch! BTW - does anyone know why US 4.2" mortars are so expensive?? It's 92 pts for UK ones, 164 for US ones (both regular), same ammo, 'bout the same reaction times......

There was a thread on this not too long ago. It would probably be impossible to find with "search" the way it is but I know there are people out there who had some thoughts on this. If you're really curious just start another thread about it.
10. Well, I kinda sorta messed up real bad here. I've got 4 slots left to make 20 people, BUT I've got 8 invitations out that haven't expired yet. Really shoddy planning on my part. I should have paid closer attention to what I was doing over the last week. Somehow I think the Cesspool is to blame. Yeah, it's their fault. It just has to be. I'm going to set a firm deadline for all 8 invitations still floating around out there. I need to hear from you by Wednesday, June 20th, 2200 hrs. (GMT-6) if you wish to take part. If we go over twenty people then so be it. The event will just last a little longer. If there are still less than 20 people at that time more invitations will go out, but not more than the slots I have available. I won't make that mistake again. Treeburst155 out.
11. OK, I've heard enough on the force restriction issue. Thanks for the input. We will stick to my original plan as spelled out in the invitation letter. Force restrictions will be determined for each game by the players themselves. In the event of an impasse in negotiations between players I will roll a die. 1,2 means players use Panther 76 rules as spelled out on Rugged Defense. 3,4 means players use Recon Rules as spelled out on the same site. 5,6 means players use infantry, inf guns, and up to 81mm mortars only. This is better than me choosing forces for both sides in the case of an impasse in negotiations. Treeburst155 out.
12. All Hands On Deck!! Claymore is beefing up the prize! He is contributing a bottle of fine Islay Scotch to the winner! Thank you, Claymore! There is a chance the shipping of this fine prize may not be possible; depending on where the winner lives, among other things. In that case, Claymore will send a CASH equivalent to the winner. I believe we're talking in the neighborhood of $100 here. Like I said, this is fine Islay Scotch. Thank you, Claymore!!
13. We've got two more players to announce! First we have JARMO, who's exuberance for CM and cheerful personality are evident in his frequent posts. After one of Rexford's super-grog posts Jarmo wrote, "I just love reading these things and pretending to understand". I can relate to that remark. Welcome aboard, Jarmo! Next we have none other than the Numero Uno of the Rugged Defense ladder, ROBERT HALL!! Nuff said. Welcome Robert!!
14. Hey Ghost, I was doing major edits to my post while you posted your latest. You might want to reread it.
15. Your apology is accepted Ghost. I think you should know that we did invite a prominent member of the TH ladder to the tourney. In fact we invited him twice because we had two email addresses for him and weren't sure which one to use. That person is Abbott. He has not responded to the invite as of now. We only invited one website owner who declined because he's up to his ears in work maintaining his site. Like we've said before, there are soooo many people who deserve an invitation. Abbott was/is our nominee from TH. If there are still openings on Wednesday, and you don't want to participate yourself, I see no reason why TH as a whole could not choose a representative from among them to fill the slot we have promised you. Get back to me on Wednesday when we will know where we stand. Again, your apology is accepted. Good luck with the TCP/IP tourney at TH! Treeburst155 out. 16. I have good reason to believe there will be a big announcement soon. Consider the drum roll in progress. Quick! Somebody grab Mr Peng! He's having another accident!
17. Aahh, Mr Peng....I don't mind you soiling my carpet. Sir Seanachai will have you trained to the newspaper in the corner soon enough. The Pooligans being involved in the tournament will make it just that much more fun for all involved and maybe even the entire community. Winecape and I are very pleased you Denizens of the Dank Domain have given us Berli and Jshandorf. And now I would like to announce our latest "star", John Kettler! John was invited because we feel his posts have been consistently excellent for years. Can he play the game? Who knows, but he's willing to give it his best. Welcome aboard, John!
18. Yeah, defending against armor with few AT capabilities is a blast. It ain't easy though.
19. Yeah, I'd like to hear how these games are going too. It takes time to post however, and people quite often are pressed for time. I'll post any results I get promptly to this thread. You can count on that. Treeburst155 out.
20. Yes, to finally understand the Mutha Beautiful Thread is an exhilarating experience. It took me months to get to the point where I said to myself, "Self, you know where these people are coming from now." Once The Pool is understood, it is easy to accept it's existence. Once you've accepted the Mutha Beautiful Thread you learn to love it, just like you love that cute little puppy that just crapped on your new carpet. Now I forgot what I was originally going to say here. Ah well.......... [ 06-17-2001: Message edited by: Treeburst155 ]
21. I read that rule too. Let me make another ruling based on that. StuGIII, when playing in tourneys, must always spot his opponents twenty points because of his gamey use of StuGIIIs. Bailiff!! You know what to do. Judge Treeburst155 out.
22. Yes, this is a quiet bunch. I really hate to do this but a question came up in tourney II that resulted in me actually adding another rule. I think it's an improvement to the CAL rules and makes them even more fair. This rule is now in effect for this tournament. The Allied player may violate the "one force type" CAL rule SOLEY for the purpose of purchasing Allied Airborne Infantry Units. He may purchase a maximum of ONE company of these units. They can be paratroops or glider platoons. No other purchases in the Allied Airborne force types are allowed unless the player chooses to stick with the "one force type" rule, that force being Airborne of course. This will allow the Allied player to pack some SMG power of his own into the battle while still giving him vehicle and armor support. Note that these Airborne platoons are not cheap however since mortars and MGs must be purchased with them. Judge Treeburst155 out. [ 06-17-2001: Message edited by: Treeburst155 ]
23. Email from WineCape to Treeburst155: Please quote verbatim and post the following in my name on the Stars Invitational thread for me: Just mention that I am out of the country because of soccer duties (and have no Internet access except via my mobile) In response to Ghost's reply... Ghost, in all due respect, please read my very first post of this Invitational thread again. You will gather that by the usuage of the words 'stars' and 'invitational' we mean the following: 'Invitational' = Nothing special in itself. Just to differentiate from the first-come-first-serve variety. Impossible to invite those *we* want to honour if in the latter tourney form. 'Stars' = (again, note the quote marks) People/Forum goers that Treeburst155 and I regard (of course subjectively!) as OUR Stars. Just the fact that they ACCEPT our humble invite makes them STARS in our eyes. Nothing more nothing less. They were invited because they were either competent PBEM opponents, or because of contributions they made to the forum in general or to CM in specific, or because, even though they were so-so PBEM players, Treeburst155 and I thought that it will be an honour for US to invite them due to their decency and sportmanslike behaviour. In short, from all walks of the forum (Pengers included!) We would like these combatants to participate at a leisurely PBEM pace over several months with custom made maps. Granted, it is impossible to invite even ALL those Treeburst155 and I consider to be 'Stars', for whatever reason we, subjectively believe them to be Stars in our opinion -- and may I add that there are PLENTY here on the Forum to choose from. So please don't feel slighted just because you or anybody else has not come up in OUR subjective invitee list that we have drawn up to honour those that WE, again subjectively, believe have contributed to this Forum or to CM. As a matter of good faith, I personally extend an invite to you to participate in our small tourney. One Caveat: --- Your invitation is conditional based on how many people already invited choose to participate. We will accept no more than twenty. If we do not reach that number by Wednesday you will receive an invitation. The chances are very good that you would get in. ********* Ghost, do I have your confirmation of your willingness to participate then? ********* To all those that graciously -- and not so graciously, but still in good faith (The Pengers) -- agreed to play in our 'Stars' Invitational tourney so far, you have our sincerest GRATITUDE. Thank you. May the winner be *enriched* in CM tactics, wine as well as that omni-present factor..... FUN! Sincerely, Charl Theron Out of my country @ the moment!
24. Berlichtingen, My original thinking was to allow purchase restrictions to be worked out by the participants. This is spelled out in the invite letter. Nobody has really expressed any burning desire FOR restrictions. I just thought I might be doing the players a favor by shortening game negotiations with imposed purchase restrictions. So, I have two votes not to limit purchases. I'd love to hear from more of you on this. CapitalistDogInChina, My apologies to you, sir. I should have mentioned your accomplishments on the RD ladder when I announced you. I feel bad about neglecting to do that.
25. Ghost358th, Your #3 status on the TH ladder is very impressive. Perhaps you would like to take out some of your hostility and resentment at not being invited on me in a TH ladder game. (I am on the main ladder and the CAL ladder). After all, I'm the one that didn't invite you. I'm afraid I can only do PBEM since I can't free up a large block of time, but I'd sure like to see what kinda stuff the #3 ladder man has. Whaddaya say? Email me with a setup if you want to show me what ya got. PS Please don't hassle the People of Peng on my thread. You'll get it locked up. You see, the Cesspoolians aren't really responsible for their actions (and posts). You and I are, or we would be one of them. Treeburst155 out.
