1. Does anyone know where you can download good Audigy presets for games like: air combat simulations, racing, ground combat, and, of course, CMBO? (Unlike my former SB Live card, this one doesn't seem to come with any presets at all for popular games. Or is that because, I have an OEM card?) Would anyone have a good Audigy preset for CMBO which they would like to share? (I am using 4.1 speaker arrangement.) Thanks.
2. Well, I have not actually had a chance to try this app to tweak CMBO yet. (Busy getting everything else working on a new PC.) However, I have had a chance to play around with it, and it is very convenient. Thanks for the help!
3. Greetings, I had been playing CMBO on a Matrox G400 MAX under Win98 SE. I have just switched to a Geforce4 Ti 4600 under WinXP Pro. I noticed the my CMBO graphics appear to be sparkling a bit when I rotate the scene. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what are the best GF4 options to set for playing CMBO. Thanks! 4. Are any of you tactical geniuses playing Airborne Assault? If so, would some of you be so kind as to post some tips in the appropriate forum (I ask since it was from this forum that I learned how to play CMBO). See: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=000189 {JasonC where are you?} Thanks.
5. Hey, is anyone going to answer this? Would this be better moved to the main forum? Thanks.
6. I just played my first exit zone scenario where I had the side which should exit. I was kind of suprized to find out that the exit zone points seem to be credited only after the game has concluded. Up to the final turn, the score was like 80(AI):20(ME). But after the last turn, I got a tactical victory with a final score like 30(AI):70(ME). I was just curious why this should be so, since it seems that most other forms of scoring are reflected pretty accurately at the conclusion of each turn? Thanks.
7. Well, I just read this thread and also had my first very positive experience with Germam FTs (one GRN and one VET). This was playing one of the CD scenarios (versus AI). Situation: A heavily wooded map and heavy fog. I placed my two FTs in woods on the opposite sides of a dirt road initially under the command of a Vet HQ unit with a combat bonus. The road was leading to an objective I was trying to hold, of course. A few minutes earlier a squad with panzerfausts and a panzerschreck team knocked out some troublesome tanks lumbering down the road. Much to my amazement the two FT teams (they had some supporting fire from a HQ unit and an SMG squad, but not too much) appeared to break as many as 6-8 allied squads that were advancing through the woods towards the objective. This was over a period of about seven minutes. Here is my speculation as to why they were so effective: - Very limited visibility (fog, woods, scattered trees, and smoke from fires which errupted from the first few flame bursts and burning tanks). - The FT units were stationary and the allies were in motion. - Although there were a considerable number of allied units approaching, the poor visibility prevented many-to-one sighting by the enemy. Thus, my FT teams were able to take them one at a time. - The poor visibility meant that the allied squads were practically on top of (20 meters) my FT teams by the time they spotted one another. The the allied squads were in the kill zone of the FTs. - The burning vegitation from previous FT shots, further helped to channel the approaching allied squads into a small window. - The reaction of allied squads to being flamed at appeared to be disproportionate to the amount of actual casualties they took. Meaning it appears to be programmed into the game that getting flamed scares the crap out of the TAC AI. I offer the above with no knowledge of WWII to tactics, history, or even a good understanding of CMBO mechanics. But none the less, I thought it might prove of some value.
8. Greetings All! I am finally building a new PC. I will be running Windows XP Pro with a Geforce4 TI4600. Are there any issues with CMBO running under this configuration which I should be aware of? Thanks!
9. I just trying to set up a little test via the scenario editor. Is there anyway to place a squad on the map without a HQ as part of a platoon. (I assume there must be.) However, when I delete the HQ unit, all the squad dissappear too. Thanks.
10. Well, I might as well bump this thread that I started. But I will also offer an observation. In the pre-Internet years (actually more correctly the pre-Web years). There were occassions were one might find a decent strategy guide in hard copy for a particular game. Of course, 75% of them were just trashy regurgitations of the manual (when games used to have manuals). In the age of the Web, it seems that anything you want to know for a popular game can be found on the Web if you take the time and effort to look for it. The quality of this information you find on this Web site far exceeds what one would typically find in a strategy guide; even one that is well written. Okay, time to go back to lurking and see if some of the master posters put up some juicey educational tidbits!
11. I would like to offer an interface suggestion for CMBB. I find myself continuously using various SHIFT-? functions during each turn of the game. It gets kind of tedious. Also, it is easy sometimes to forget that I turned smoke off, and then not realize various LOS lines are, in fact, blocked. I would like to see the game interface have a toolbar across one of the edges where all SHIFT-? functions could be selected and you could see what was currently in force. Also, it would be great if SHIFT-? function macros could be user defined and be selectabled from a drop down list. This would accomodate individual styles and allow for the most rapid switching of option combinations within turns. Thanks.
12. Another good place to pose tank related questions is over at the: www.steelbeasts.com forum. Also, I believe that there is a tank network site out there for real world tankers. The Steel Beast forums have a lot of real world tankers.
13. I saw the other thread regarding taking action when getting shelled. Well, recently my troops were totally decimated by an air attack (bombs and straffing). The map is a Winter map with pretty much open area; no place to hide. Aside from spreading my troops out the only other thing I could think of is laying down a lot of smoke. (Does smoke work against air attacks? How does the AI resolve LOS from the air?) Anyway, what should I have done? (By the way, I did not have any AAA assets. If I had, would they engage the attack aircraft or are you simply at its mercy?) Thanks.
14. I have been using the Mod Manager program. I would really like to use CMMOS, but I am not sure how it combines with pre-CMMOS mods? Also, it seems to use CMMOS that you have to do many downloads and unzips. Could there just be one mega download for those with broadband? Do I need to download rulesets and zips separately? Clearly I could benefit from a tutorial with some screen shots too! Thanks.
15. I play scenarios against the AI. I often win on the first time out, but it is no walk in the park. So, I play against the AI, but I am not proud. And yes, attacks are harder.
16. I don't think CM has prepared me adequately for ground combat in the real; even with screen shake turned on, Madd Matt's sound pack, and a heavy duty subwoofer. I have no doubt that the first time I saw the heavy stuff falling that my limbs would melt and I would become one with the ground. Knowledge and experience are two different things.
17. I have to admit that I am not using it. I've installed most of my mods based on an article that Mad Matt wrote and some other things. I am using the CM Mod Mgr program. Is there a strong reason why I should switch over? Thanks.
18. He, he. My greatest contribution to the game was to link to other people's clever insights. Scouring old posts in this forum was what made the difference for me between abandoning this game and getting passionately into it. It's a pitty that I couldn't have dedicated more time to maintain a growing and organized index page of posts. A lot of great stuff has been posted since I did this. Well, I am glad it is helping others.
quote:
Originally posted by Silvio Manuel: Knowledge is power! {throws Gammon bump} Ka-blooie!

19. How does CMBO process the texture files for terrain and vehicles? Are they all loaded with the mission or are they loaded on an as needed basis? Meaning what is the best way to test if too many mods are degrading my performance? I have FRAPS (test frame rate) and CM MOD Mgr. So, I can easily test. So, is just loading a particular save game with and without the mods sufficient to test? Thanks.
20. One problem I have with my current Winter terrain is that I cannot easily (visually) determine the difference between woods and scattered tree terrain. I've installed MDMP and Rich terrain mods. Is there another set of Winter terrain that would have greater clarity? Also, I notice that Winter maps (snow) always seem to run slower than comparable Summer (no snow) maps. Why would that be? Thanks.
21. My video card has 32Mb VRAM should I be concerned about installing too many HIRES mods? Do HIRES mods only slow your PC when you don't have adequate video memory? Thanks.
22. I am trying to determine if I need additional vehicle mod packs. If I have already installed the MDMP 1/2 packs, then do I already have decent hires vehicles? Or should I explore downloading other mods? Thanks.
23.
quote:
Originally posted by busboy: Well, there are a few "Mod Packs" out there. However, if you don't want terrian, and only winter vehicles, then you have to download them individually. Find what you need/want and go hinting. The CMHQ is the best place to start your search.

Okay, I see that Combatmission has Axis vehicles/support and Allied vehicles Winter mods. But there are no Allied support Winter mods. Do you have a good suggestion as to where to get some? Thanks.
24.
quote:
Originally posted by busboy: As for PC, all you have to do is put the winter graphic in the graphics folder with everything else. There is a different number for winter textures that the game looks for under winter circumstances. If it doesn't find anything, it uses the regular graphics. So, as long as the alternate .bmp is numbered correctly, its a "fire and forget" method of installation.

Is there someplace to just get a simple single download of Winter vehicle/unit modes without ending up with various terrain mods too? Thanks.
