"Internal Armor Flakking" -
BTS admittedly loaded the VOT demo scenario with BIG ARTY and loads of crap to make you go: ooh ahh But if you play the German's you're invariably saying: Oh, sh*t. Don't sweat it. The full-blown game (plus some mods) makes the demo look like pong. A really cool pong, but pong.

Armor Hot Dogs are good, if you like that kind of thing. Glad to help you out...

I believe I've had some tanks shoot AP at infantry targets when that's all they've got left to sling. Of course, it doesn't do anything. I don't know if it because I have lost track of the vehicle's ammo load out and I've drawn a targeting line-- but I know I've had to stop them from doing it after noticing the lack of nice explosions.

What is so special about this game??
-Havermeyer- replied to Arith's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I pre-ordered CM, and haven't purchased another game since. I have spent maybe 15 hours playing old games (and that was in despair when I realized my 2 year old had hidden the disk). The cost to use factor essentially puts $250 in your pocket in avoided game purchases. -
CM2 and Blowing up bridges. May be an idea...
-Havermeyer- replied to Xavier's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Yeah, Luck's book is great! Also, a quick scan of the 291st Eng Bt during the Bulge gives some indication of how a fluid situation creates odd predicaments. Bridges were blown at the last second (and not blown because the wiring/fuses were rattled) in the face of the attackers lead elements. This seemingly happened any number of times, as the Germans tried to find ways to break out. I don't see it used very often either, but if a bridge could be bought in a "heavy damaged" state and blown under command-- It would be fun. -
can I fight a high res game using orginal settings?
-Havermeyer- replied to EricM's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Yes, you can have your RED mods. I'll have you know your precious "Tiger-Mod" and "Magua-Mod" tanks and trucks you so painstaking downloaded appear as chartreuse Yugos and your troops resemble bella abzug in pants suits and comfortable shoes on my screen. I mod, and mine nullify you and yours. [ 06-15-2001: Message edited by: -Havermeyer- ] -
A BUNCH of answers to your questions!

Uhh... Was the Winter War the last time we heard from Finland? And that isn't a bad thing, because I haven't acquired as much of a distaste for them as I have the French. -

Reliability/ Durability/Frequency of German HTs?
-Havermeyer- replied to Terence's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
1 HT is impervious to close assualting allied troops. I've had TWO (2) FULL-STRENGTH, PLATOONS surrounding 1 HT and couldn't kill it. Then I did a test again with a COMPANY surrounding a Stu-- and COULDN'T KILL IT FOR 3 (THREE) TURNS!!!!!! So it just ain't fair, I'm tellin ya! -

Get Ben´s new sky mods from Tom´s Combat Mission HQ
-Havermeyer- replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Sorry, but the sky mods don't make the ugliest damn tanks in the WTO look any better. Keep trying... ...or I'll have to keep drinking till they do look good. Edited cuz I'm stoopid. [ 06-13-2001: Message edited by: -Havermeyer- ] -
CM2 and Blowing up bridges. May be an idea...
-Havermeyer- replied to Xavier's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Ba da Bing! Just what I wanted (kinda)-- the scenario designer places a "wired" bridge, and then with the engineer sod nearby, blows it (right in peipers face). Nice. Now the on-the fly bridge blowing is nice too with well place TRPs. I can't recall ever encountering a bridge in a QB, though. -
Love the rear view of the beach bunker. Should have gone out with the original game...

Mortars inside buildings... bug?
-Havermeyer- replied to PipBoy's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
you can put them just outside the building. arc, physics, trajectory no mattah. i killed a slew of halftracks (original game release version) with a little 81mm out of LOS and in C&C and RIGHT NEXT TO THE BUILDING. it was a beautiful thing. -

-Havermeyer- replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Steve, you were right. You can't give us a little information. You'll be responding to questions till the release data at this rate. Thanks for your efforts. I'd still like to watch a bridge blow up in front of the armored column of my opponent. And laugh and laugh and laugh over TCPIP. -
Computer Games Magazine CM2 article...
-Havermeyer- replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Engineers blowing up bridges! Maybe not on the fly, but it would be nice to construct a scenario where engineers in defense can blow a bridge. Maybe let the designer buy a "wired" bridge, or something. It would be fun to watch a panzer column roll up expecting to cross a bridge, and some engineer sod pops up and presses a plunger. Oops. -
Demo vs. Real Game
-Havermeyer- replied to [CoFR]Archangel's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Madmatt often posted the readme file of each patch-- and there was often lengthy discussion prior to and during patch release about the relative merits of BTS's hardwork incorporating stuff we whined about. Ready? Do a search on Madmatt and patch and readme, settle back with a cup of coffee or adult beverage, and prepare to read for at least an hour or more (excluding the running commentary by the users on BTS's fixes). Your friend will probably be convinced the designers of this game give a damn after the first 10 minutes, and will want to purchase. -

Extreme weirdness....what happened?
-Havermeyer- replied to Otto Mekanik's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Looks like the blast activated the hidden "Boys from Brazil" subroutine. I thought this was beyond the scope of CMBO and the typical comp/batt engagement. Another example of BTS' pro-axis bias.
