  4. Hey guys to my recollection Madmatt in his readme (he said "READ THIS FIRST BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD") stated that there may or may not be any issues with Ge Force cards. I'm not certain if it was Madmatt mind you, but I do recall seeing a minor warning about it before I downloaded. I am lucky, I have a Athlon 700 with Ge Force card and have had no problems. Johnno

  8. I know this has already probably been brought up and yeah, I'm to lazy to look but why is it that field guns can't be placed in buildings. Now I'm not going to say "Close Combat does it,naah naah" nor do I wish to hear, "well Johnno there is a reason they are called 'field guns'." Also, I believe it is usually not very strategically wise to put them in buildings as buildings are 'Major' targets but why did CM leave it out? If you make a scenario with the editor, place the cannon then place a building where the cannon is placed I found it can be done. Although I'm not sure if the game is 100% stable after this. Let me know if you can someone who know, more wise than I please. 11. Hmmm, that is a very good point, I had not considered that. Being the first turn and all perhaps the scenario designer had made them split I will check, quickly, I don't want to spoil it and see my opponants forces. Johnno
  12. Yes, I agree. Good points, well thought up. Johnno
  13. note: This is a duplicate message that was placed in tech support. Sorry, I wanted to double my chances of a quick response.> I have lost an entire squad of riflemen on turn two of a downloaded scenario from ASL website, I realize this is not your scenario but I was hoping you could explain the problem. The game is being played with a PBEM partner The scenario is called "Tiger 222" I would be happy to send you the saved game file and screenshots of the problem. The units are placed on the right side of the screen, the rifle platoon are setting up and ambush. On turn two when I opened the file the rifle squad on the right side was gone, two of the other squads were still there, I know I'm right because I still see the foxhole where the men were. I couldn't have done anything silly like withdrew them from the side of the map as I watched the movie and would have noticed it. In fact my eyes were transfixed on that platoon because they were in ambush position and I thought it might happen that turn. I turned on unit bases and had no luck, but when you do this, turn on unit bases that is, the ambush marker seems to count as a unit. Is it possible that somehow the AI or software was confused by the extras marker and thus subtracted from that squad my squad? I am waiting for your response, I will send you a email file containing saved game and screenshots if it will help you to help me. John Carlson Oh and by the way, I was considering opening the file to see it via the scenario editor but both my email partner and I have dl'd this file and are playing it blind. If I open the file I'll know all his forces and then it'll be a waste of a perfectly good PBEM. [This message has been edited by Johnno (edited 11-27-2000).]

  15. Bestables this is what Big Time Software says in the thread (or what I can see.) Rifle grenade penetrates (approx) 60mm. Panzerfaust penetrates (approx) 215mm. These values are against unsloped armor. Nahverteidigungswaffe bomblet is pretty similar to an 81mm mortar shell. Although I did need the range of the Rifle grenades it doesn't answer my questions as I need a #. (i.e Panzerschreck range in CM is 225m and it's HC penetration is 170, Bazooka and Piat range is 200m and HC penetration is 90.) I need exact numbers not iffy and suggestive amounts. In the thread itself it appears as if these figures are hardcoded and Big Time Software may have forgotten the amount themselves or perhaps I should just forget the whole damn thing as these weapons are much more random. I mean even every single chart for tanks says "armor penetration will vary." this is fine, but I just wanted to be accurate in my data that I propose to give to other players of CM as I would like this to be a resource for them. Oh and by the way, thanks Beman for sending the file but I haven't got Excel and can't open it. I will try again to access it through Frontpage or another program but all I have tried so far is Wordpad. jshandorf those figures on the website you gave will not help as I want to uses accurate CM figures (as they may differ.) Incidentally I have a link to that website as well as many others I am compiling on my websites links section. Feel free to send me links and I will add them if you'd like via email. My unit statistics charts are for CM not for real life otherwise I'd just put figures on there with the assumption that BTS has made perfect matching with their units and real life units. While I do admire and agree that BTS rules in it's conversion from real-life to 3d game, I do not want to use any figures but what they have. These statistics are for the game I remind you, not for what real weapons can do, or am I TOTALLY wrong should I be looking elsewhere such as the page you suggested? In the meantime I'm going to trip over to ASL2CM website as I think I may have missed it there. Johnno [This message has been edited by Johnno (edited 11-24-2000).]
  16. Hmmm, I believe I talked to the webmaster and he said someone else did the stats but it was no longer available, thank you I'll look anyways maximus. Oh and by the way one of the members of my website (a.k.a.stuka or Von Shrad) said you might be interested in joining our online players club. Feel free to come by look and join up we'd love to have as a member. Johnno, Dogs of War http://persweb.direct.ca/johnnocm/
  17. A couple of questions below that I'd really appreciate answers to. I'm making a few webpages online for unit statistics and I want the data for all units for players to refer to. I did searches for these answers and instead got a bunch of threads that looked like military history pages. Really al I need is a few #'s so I can post this for players to see. Please don't teach me history lessons and post diagrams of what there is the assumable armor penetration of a rifle grenade at 40, 50, 60 m I don't need it. 1. What is the blast radius of a grenade, I would assume that in CM, all the grenades have a blast radius the same and if so is it 9? 2.Penetration values for the Panzerfaust 30, 60 and 100m anti-tank weapons? I assume the penetration value is all the same but let me know if you, do know? 3. Penetration value, blast and range for the rifle grenade? 4. Gammon bombs and Shaped Charges blast value, or are these different than normal blast values because the noise they make and vibration effect much more intense? Please understand I want what Combat Mission models not what it is in real life. I don't care what they did in real life, although I do have books on some of the weapons so I do like the read on them. What I need is what Combat Mission has for it's values.Groan! I DID just try and get my answers to my questions by searching and got some incredibly long threads that, I really don't have time to look for the answer. Accurratcy and realism is what BTS was attempting and I think they did a great job but I just need a few #'s please: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/009900.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/004564.html Above are two of the threads I looked through but never found my answers, just so you know I tried. 18. With Armor comes many different tactics and they all apply on the terrain. Armor strategies are much more vast in my opinion than infantrymen and support. Although I think in some terrain and missions they might go side by side and depend on each other all the more. I have started a Units Statistics on my website and you are all welcome to come by and visit it. I suggest once it all done you can print the pages for your reference on armor, vehicles, support or infantry and use them as a direct comparison when meeting opposing forces or just choosing a set-up. Currently only the infantry and support is done but I should have the vehicles and tanks done by the end of the weekend. 19. I like th popcorn analogy it's pretty good. In reality though I think it might apply to all guys in the field, they are all individuals and have free thoughts not robots. I myself, in my playing of CM, put very high importance on my HQ units and this improves my play. If a HQ unit runs gets whacked and leaves the others behind the others don't benefit from his command modifiers and control. They are simply a squad not a platoon so to say but they don't fight any less hard they just don't have the benefits of the Commander. My thoughts anyway, don't care if you like them or not. The way I play CM this idea flows through my troops and cuts down the enemy like Moses parting the Red Sea. 20. I've had no problems so far in CM and I play constantly, Combat Mission rocks and I have an excellent game rig to play it on, so there Johnno Visit my website: Dogs of War,CMBO Online Players Club <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>"I like a man who grins when he fights." - Prime Minister Winston Churchill<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> [This message has been edited by Johnno (edited 12-17-2000).]
  21. I agree, the CM model won't drive them into anywhere that is even the slightest threat to they're safety it seems. In my opinion this is a bit of a AI cheat as the computer won't move the units as it KNOWS you are there before it SEES you there. In a scenario where I tried to make it so the US are advancing and get ambushed they would not move even though the main objective was to get to the other side. The Germans in the woods could be trapped in behind lines or snuck behind lines, for a what if scenario but still the damn AI won't move them. I don't think that the truck drivers should be morons and charge in as they are unarmored and no weapons, but a trigger or something added to their AI makeup would be appreciated. Perhaps the solution would be to arm the driver and passenger as they are totally unarmed (crew of 2). I believe the passenger of the truck is supposed to be riding shot-gun anyways and would have a rifle if not a thompson. My thoughts anyways.
