nah, i got no probs with the game.

i just was reading a games article where one guy said game balance was important in a strategy game and that made me think of cm...

i was just thinking that if this wasn't a wwii game, most people would think cm was not very balanced at first sight. unless you know how to use allies/venutians, it would look like the germs/martians were too powerful.

  2. if you ignore the reality of wwii weapons for a moment, would cm be considered a balanced game?

i mean, say if the data for all the weapons were the same but they changed the names of the units weapons, etc, and made it a fictional sci-fi setting, made no mention of its wwii roots, and then put the game on the market, would players be complaining about how the martians(axis) have so many bettter armored weapons than the venutians(allies)? and declare that the game was unplayable because of that descrepency?

i mean would you play a game where most of your side's weapons were useless against the enemy's biggest tanks?

  3. isn't this done to a smaller extent with the tcp timer? set low you really have to haul butt and a few units always get left behind(in my first game i forgot a mmg from setup for ten turns even after i saw it after five of those turns)

I can get a LOS from behind light woods through to the other side some of the time. Since it doesnt matter where the sprites are, how can I determine this? How can I know if I am behind cover in a particular position (that I want my tank go, for example) from behind light woods?

u pretty much have to wing it

About the bocage question: Why is there a difference between allies and axis? I would expect a 40 ton Panther speeding at 20 mph towards a bocage to get through it no matter what... but it doesnt..

    /B]

basically, a bocage is pretty solid...the allies developed metal prongs to bust through the bocages since they were on 'o.

the germs, being on 'd never had to charge forward and break through bocage country...

    Please help!

oh crap u still have that problem? at the scenario editor there should be a down pointing arrow to click that brings up wall, bocage and hedge tiles...

all right a fellow cornell guy!

Does Cornell throw you out of the dorms for spring break? I'm hiding out in here, becuase I was supposed to have left yesterday. No lights, can't leave my room, and I've only got enough food for three more days. Thank god I've got CM and this forum for entertainment.

u have to have an RA sign you out...they lock the doors and charge you about $200 for every hour you overstay, so no hiding.

the food is decent(soggy veggies the biggest complaint) lots of variety though. cash-op places (sandwiches, fried foods etc.), all u can eat dining halls, can only carry one piece of fruit out(but just sneak a couple more outta your bag)

    no break until march 16...

well, if you're interested wink.gif here's what i counted after watching the movie on my comp and counting deaths and then the survivors:

( ----- spoiler alert ----- obviously don't read if you havn't seen the movie)

    died:

1 from sticky bomb(didn't see this one cause my copy of the movie had a bad visual part here)

6 tank charging guys (i believe two were badly wounded and shot by advancing germans and were not counted twice)

    2 jackson(sniper) and Parker(mmg)

    2 mellish and henderson?(mmg)

1 while everyone running for alamo(was shot behind sgt "thought you were my mother" horvatch?)

    1 sgt horvatch

1 last guy on bridge who beat two germans with his rifle than hit a german with his helmet

    1 miller

    survivors:

    1 reiban

    1 ryan

    1 upham

18 total, still a lot fewer than what i remembered but there it is...

i must admit i never saw more than 16-17 at one time before the battle, even when they discussing their defense plan but that may be explained away as 1 or 2 guys standing guard elsewhere at the time...
