  1. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>LOL... Russia has many diverse geographical areas. Open Steppes to the rugged mountains. Light forests, rolling hills, open farmland, dense forest, and small and large rivers. Even the Steppes are cut with huge culverts from rainwater run off. Russia is as diverse geographically as any body of land. Drive or take a train from the East coast of America to the West coast of America (or any country) see the difference in terrain features?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Abbott, I'd love to see our wonderful country? How about financing my trip so I can see exactly what you mean? Seriously though, I didn't say Russia didn't have different kinds of terrain. But some of the different kinds of terrain you're talking about don't provide the concealment infantry teams need to make sneak attacks on armor or other targets. Steppes are merely plains. Open farmland and river banks don't provide concealment either. Mountains and hills may work but from what I've read on this forum, there have been problems with infantry hiding on reverse slopes. You seem to think that there will be forests to hide in. Well, I hope you're right. CC3 didn't have any. Maybe that's because every map was a "snow map" in the dead of winter. Here's hoping that CM2 won't be the same thing and that infantry will play a big part in the game. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  2. After playing Close Combat 2 for years, we were all very excited when we heard CC3 was coming out. Then, it arrived. Boy were we disappointed. It was just a battle of tanks. Infantry played no part in the fighting and were merely walking corpses. Is this what CM2 will be like? After all, we're talking about Russia here-frozen tundra and all. How can you hide infantry let alone sneak up a schreck team on a T-34 when there are no trees to hide behind? The most you'll probably be provided with are the winter skeletons of what few trees actually grow there. There are of course the buildings to hide in, but in this game they come crashing down with a few shots from a 75mm or bigger gun. What is an infantry team to do to survive on the East Front? ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.

  4. Bruno, Tournament House is for PBEM. Check it out and see if you like it. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  5. Uh...ok...my fault. I'm blind today. Apparently, it does show the ground conditions when it is raining or snowing. But...and this is a big, fat, but...if you are playing a QB, the ground conditions for rainy and snowy weather are always "wet" or "snow." Now, I know this isn't a huge thing and all but I'm wondering why the QB's can't have the same options as the pre-made battles. Why can't we choose from light snow, snow, and deep snow and between wet, mud, and deep mud. Would this feature be so hard to add? Somebody back me on this. I can't be the only one who wants this feature added. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  6. Go to Tournament House to sign up for the ladder and all your problems will be solved. http://www.tournamenthouse.com ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  7. Opponents for PBEM games can be found at The Tournament House ladder. http://www.tournamenthouse.com Playing on the ladder is just a way of making things a little more competitive. If you wanna try out your lastest experiment, then a "fun" game might be the way to go. Otherwise, if you're looking for opponents who will give you their best game, T-House has a feature that always lets you see who's available for a PBEM and it's easier to read than a thread like this. Check it out. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.

  9. Randomizing the weather won't solve the problem. Whether I select "rain" or the computer selects it, I am still in doubt as to how wet the ground is or how muddy it is. I think it's important to know this since you might not want to buy a heavy tank if you have wet ground, deep mud, or deep snow. And it's perfectly realistic because your men would know what the weather is like and how much it's rained along with seeing the conditions with their own eyes. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  10. When playing a QB, how does one know what the ground conditions are? For instance, if the option is set to rain, how do you know if the conditions are wet, mud, or deep mud? These information is crucial in one's planning, especially with tanks. Please tell me there's a way of finding out. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.

  12. In addition to the spellchecker, you might want to use that thing at the bottom of your keyboard called the space bar. It's used inbetween words to tell one word from another. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  13. Help! I'm freelancing on my first web design project and my tables I made are all screwed up for some reason. They look fine in Dreamweaver but when I look at the site in a browser, it's all jacked. Can someone help me with this?!!? Either leave an email addy or ICQ# so I can get the file over for you to look at. I'd be much appreciative if someone can help. Thanks. My ICQ# is: 58866533 Email: Gregor22@pacbell.net ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  14. Moving right into Javascript...I'm starting at the bottom. Taught myself HTML, very easy. Now I'm working on Javascript and it's considerably harder. I've read a few tutorials on the web but they didn't help much. Bought the O'Reilly book and although it's a good reference guide, the author does an awful job of explaining Javascript to a newbie. Can anyone recommend a thourough Javascript book that covers the language well for someone who has almost no programming experience? Also, how much harder is it to learn C as opposed to Javascript? ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>He set the battle up using the scenario creator. That way you can have any mix of troops.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is why we can't do this on quick battles. I'd love to keep some cheap green troops in back as reserves while I let my regs and vets do the frontline fighting. Can we get a patch for this BTS so we have more of a selection? Or will this count against the frame rate too? ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  16. I would settle for just a more detailed AAR. I agree with the others that medals should be given out and such but what I really want to see is all the settings of the battle; pts for each side, how many units each side had, and a roster for each side. Of course we also need a roster for when were playing the actual game. This would be great and shouldn't be hard to put in. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  17. I'm looking for the grass mod which has the grid on it--the one on Fionne's games. I downloaded Mod pack 1 & 2. Isn't it on one of those? And if so, how do I use it if there are 20 something grass textures on that mod? ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>I don't agree. Your squad were probably as safe staying put, as running. In addition, infantry moving position every time they are 'in danger' would very rapidly undo all your defensive positions, and is a sign of poor troop quality. Imagine if a guaranteed way of causing infantry covering the approaches of a building to move was to fire a shell at them. You could then walk infantry up to the defensive line with impunity.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yeah, I hear what you're saying. It's important for your troops to hold their positions so the opposing infantry can't advance into those positions. I think though that the AI should do a common sense check. If a stuart is firing up at you, it makes sense for your team to decide to stay and try to hold the position. If though, that a firefly or similar tank with a 17 lb gun or a Tiger with an 88 is pounding your team, that team should do the smart thing and get out! Bottom line...the AI should decide whether or not it is safe for your team to be in the building for an entire minute when being hit by an opposing tank. Anybody else got some opinions on this? ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  19. I'm in a PBEM game right now where I have a rifle squad in a two story building who have been hiding for quite some time now from the armor in the area by going to the safe side of the building. During the last turn, my opponent moved his heavy tank into LOS of this squad and open fired. I of course didn't know there was a danger present and so I haven't had time to get them out of the area yet. Unfortunately, by the end of the "manic minute" my team had sat there and taken incoming fire from a firefly without trying to get themselves out of the building and now they are half a squad and panicking because of all the shots they took. Shouldn't some tweaking be done to the AI to fix this problem? I mean, how realistic is it for a squad to sit there next to the window and wait to get blown to bits by a tank? In real life, the squad would at the very least move to a protected (safe) part of the building if not exit the building entirely as it would soon come crashing down. I see this as something that should be addressed in the next patch. Let's have the AI help us out a little since we only have control over our men every minute. Logical decisions like getting out of the way of danger should be put into the game, even it means disobeying orders. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  20. Your tank reverses according to the tread facing. The turret position has no bearing on this at all. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Sounds like Grognard symptoms to me. Other things to look out for: (i) an urge to purchase military books, videos and wargames; (ii) a craving to learn about key military battles, OOBs, and military hardware; (iii) regular visits to local military museums; and (iv) if you're really addicted, a large stock pile of military models that you'll buy, but never complete because you only have anough time for (i) to (iii) above.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Add in: (v) When driving around your neighborhood, you examine your neighbor's lawns to see which one would provide the best cover for an infantry team and which one has the best walls for your tank to be hull down behind. ------------------ Everything in moderation...except CM.

  23. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>With the Panther down my Sherman finally came out from behind the hill and shelled an 81mm mortar and held one small VL. I was at a loss when I was accused of cheating at the end of this battle.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Abbott, you know as well as I do that I never accused you of cheating. If you wanna sit here and try to exaggerate everything to gain support from all the 13 year olds here who just want to start a flame war, then go right ahead. I merely asked you why you had vet units and I had regulars since what it said in the book stated different.
  24. I'm officially offering my services to proofread this manual so it can be error free for the next customers. The one for version 1.3 is riddled with mistakes. All I ask BTS is that you give me a free copy in exchange for this old one. Deal?
