Anyone know how rare the Wolverine was in UK units? I know the M10 was quite common with US units, but how about in Commonwealth units? Dorosh, where are you when I need you

K_C that's funny and contains more than a grain of truth! -
Pipboy, I think that if the ambush marker is left untargeted for a turn it disappears. That's the only way to make them vanish AFAIK. Welcome to CM

Simon Fox, you said "the Germans often seem a bit too full of themselves" and "sometimes seeming almost caricatures of themselves". You mentioned the German writers "arrogance". Don't you feel that the same comments could be made about many of the "historians" on the CM forums? I find some people on these threads to be incredibly pompous and arrogant.

Most common US HMG: M1917 or M2?
Viceroy replied to Maj. Battaglia's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Maj. Battaglia I think you're right about Pandora's Box! For the sake of completeness I'll tell what he says about Lend-Lease quantities. Gander says, there are no figures for Lend-lease M1917s. M1919 LL he gives totals of 30,735. M2 LL he says 15,083 But as you said, such figures do give as many questions as answers. -

JasonC, a very good post. Lots of good useful info. A shame that not all your posts are of this quality. [ 06-07-2001: Message edited by: Viceroy ] -
I agree with Maastrictian's comments above. In attack I find it tends to attack in a rather piecemeal fashion, with CO's often leading the charge. It's better in defence and usually keeps something in reserve to give you a nasty shock! It tends to be less effective with Art/mortars than human players. Still the AI has beaten me many times ..... and if you want more of a challenge from the AI you can always give them a 10% advantage in forces and raise their experience level a notch or two. I've never been that cocky

Most common US HMG: M1917 or M2?

I looked at Terry Gander's "Allied Infantry weapons of WW2". p115 &p125 "M1917 total production by the time the war ended 53,859." BTW 10,000 0f these were given to the Brits in 1940, who assigned them to Home Guard units. "the M1917 ... was overwhelmed in numerical superiority by the Browning air-cooled variants." "no fewer than 389,251 M1919A4 guns for flexible mountings" [were produced] "by the end of the war no fewer than 1,451,842 M2 guns had been manufactured for land, sea and air applications. To these could be added a further 429,056 M2's specifically for ground applications." These figures would seem to support the BTS approach that the M1917, though it saw a long and distinguished service, was less common than the M1919 and M2. -
JasonC, why are you so convinced it's fake? I read many tanker tales in George Forty's "German Tanks of WW2". The vets in his book sound very like the vets on that site. I'd be curious to know why after, as you said, a brief reading you were convinced it was all lies? I'll quote from Gantter's foreword page XI "You'll find errors, possibly some misinformation in this ...... but I'm not going to worry much about a few errors of fact. ..... portions of this book would seem false or distorted or incomplete to many of the men who shared a common experience, saw different things and saw them differently."

L.Tankersley, thank you, that was clear and easy to understand ..... even for someone who is technically challenged!

I know little about computers but AFAIK Fuzzy Logic gives the AI the ability to "guess" to a certain extent and accept more vague info. I'm sure someone will post a more accurate reply soon. Edited bit. Seeing as you seem to be quite knowledgable about the subject, could you explain it in more everyday language? Thanks for your help. BTW out of interest are rice cookers common in the States? [ 06-05-2001: Message edited by: Viceroy ]

Rexford, best of luck with your new book Who is this book aimed at? Is it only for hard core grogs and AFV experts? Will it be of use to the average CM player? I generally base my choice of units on broad rules of thumb, would such detailed info as contained in your book help me? Thanks in advance, Viceroy

What games are best for PBEM ..... scenarios or QB generated games? Also, in QB games do you think all kinds of battles are fair, or only ME? Thanks for any feedback. BTW anyone know of good PBEM scenarios?

JasonC My manual (got CM about 9 months ago) doesn't contain anywhere near the detailed amount of information on VP's. Thanks for explaining how it worked. [ 06-04-2001: Message edited by: Viceroy ]

I hope this gets locked and you get banned within the next 5 minutes. You make me feel ashamed to be white.

PanzerMeyer, as we're playing each other I'm sorry you're missing out on the fog It as thick on my computer as any I ever saw in London. I have a GE2MX 32 mb and it works great and they're pretty cheap nowadays. I'm sure it'll work fine for CM2 as well. I ran CM for 6 months on my old Voodoo2. After I upgraded, cranked up the options + resolution and dl heaps of mods, I suddenly realized how nice this game can look.

"PBEM Helper": All users/wannabe-users Q/A here .....
Viceroy replied to WineCape's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Wine Cape, I've read the readme, but I'm still having problems  I have a couple of PBEM files in the CM folder. How do I get the PBEM helper to recognize them? How do I get it to automatically save PBEM files in the right folder for each opponent? Thanks for your help, Viceroy -
I seem to remember something about "Berlin Calling". I think that Lord Haw Haw was more notorious.

Brand New Mod: "The Luck Modifier"
Viceroy replied to boy_Recon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Viz! Oh, that brings back memories Many years since I've enjoyed a copy of that fine comic. BTW nothing to say sorry for. -
David Aitken, this is not meant as a flame. But did you really take the statement "this typing is for caveman" as an insult, rather than meaning that typing is archaic? Did you seriously misunderstand him, or were you merely complaining about his use of English? Just curious to know ..... not meant as an attack on you. BTW Lord Sean, you statement was totally understandable to me.

Funny post As a Capricorn I'd like to know why it won't work for us? BTW could you tell me more about the expression "spawney git" as I don't know that one.
