  1. Cannuck, CM is the best value game I've ever bought. Worth every penny and then some. Also, and here's the rub, it's the only game my wife likes and now SHE'S the one who wants to upgrade $45 is cheap when I compare it to some of the crappy movies I've seen and lousy beer I've been forced to drink.
  2. Jason Crawley, yes, I meant "realistic" or at least "realisticISH!" I see your point, Pz IV's are cheap and the gun is good enough most of the time. I was defending recently with 2 Fireflies and lost to 4 Pz "Mark 4 Specials".
  3. Thanks for the advice. I think you guys are right when you say there is no "one" answer. I found all your comments useful and I'll have a bash with the Tigers or Panthers and see how it works. BTW agree with the comments about the rockets being useless ..... but I sure love the noise they make
  4. Need some tips for a good German tank for attacking. I want something that provides a good bang for the buck .... no super tanks please.
  5. It's on the NE coast, south of Newcastle and north of Licolnshire. Is that the area that used to be called East Yorkshire?
  6. Sorry, I should have added that if the casualty rates were that bad in NW Europe, imagine what they would be on the Russian front?
  7. But how can you track members of a unit fighting in NW Europe 1944-5 when casualty rates were so high? "Of the 61 divisions in the theater, 20 had a personnel turnover rate of 100% or higher.." see M.Doubler "Closing with the Enemy" p239. The 4th Division had a turnover rate of 252% !! In "If you Survive" G.Wilson wrote that as of mid-March 1945 his Battalion had only one surviving officer who had been serving since D-Day ..... and sadly that officer was killed the next day. On the back of "If you survive" it says, ...."of all the men and officers of Company F .... Wilson was the only one who finished". And remember the computer would also have to keep track of all the postings, leave, rotations, training, transfers etc.etc. Any attempt to do this, IMO, would be futile and take away from the realism that is the trademark of CM.
  8. Mac, I run CM just fine on my 200MMX 64mb Voodoo2. I stick to smallish engagements .... lesss than a 1000 points or company level battles. Performance is good A big thank you to BTS for doing such a great job. I suggest you try to upgrade your RAM to 64 or 96 and get a better card like a PCI Voodoo3. I assume you won't have AGP. I hesitated before getting this game as I couldn't really believe it would work on my "museum piece". Rest assured it'll do just fine
  9. Griffencheng, I'm in Taiwan ..... on the East coast in Hualien. Don't know of any other CM fans locally. A happy Chinese New year to all of you in HK. Xin nian kuai le!
  10. CM runs fine on my minimum set up: 200MMX 64mbRAM Voodoo2 Full install. I stick to small battles typically around the company level or less than a 1000 in QB. Runs pretty smooth and pauses while the computer thinks are not very long. I couldn't be happier. So, in answer to the Question .... you could go lower than mine and it'd still work.
  11. Jeff, as a long term resident in Asia I can inform you that in most Asian languages the word for white person or Caucasian, is simply big nose guy! And that's the polite word. The words for Black people are far too negative and depressing too share on this board. "Jap" could be rude depending on how is was used and the context. So could "Pom" and "Brit".
  12. An amazing site ... one of the best WWII sites I've seen. Anyone know any more "KewL" places on the web?
  13. I find the Diamler to be good ... even better than the M8 Greyhound.
  14. I first heard of CM on the web a while ago. Wasn't very interested but after the release the flood of rave reviews at simhq.com and elsewhere made me visit BTS and try the demo .... been hooked ever since All previous PC wargames had left me cold. I think that links to other game sites, even if non-wargame are important to spread the word.
  15. AFAIK it was Clauswitz who first used the term. Does anyone know for sure?
  16. Brits called the various Shermans I-V. Anyone able to tell me what the Sherman II, III and IV were in US parlance? Thanks, BTW I did a search for this info...
  17. Jeff, how many points does the AI have available?
  18. Juno, I find the AI pretty good. Sometimes it performs excellently, sometimes more poorly ...... but that seems realistic to me But, it does seem to be better at defence than offence. I find the AI a reliable partner for "learning" ..... and that's one of the main things I love about CM; that I've learnt something from every Scenario I've played. I've never found any one tactic that ALWAYS works .... and that's maybe the best quality about the AI. An example, I often save my 81mm mortar for pounding infantry or taking out AT guns as it usually works well .... but today it didn't
  19. What do these terms mean in CM? I did a search but couldn't find anything on this ....thanks for helping a newbie
  20. I'm in Taiwan and ordered mine on Aug 26th ..... I hope it gets here soon Strange how mail from UK to Taiwan is 4/5 days and US to Taiwan is 10 days? The UK shipping rates are cheaper too. So, BTS send games to the Far East the long way VIA the UK and it'll be much quicker
  21. Clark, I'm running the demo on a V2 and have no graphic problems and see the objective flags clearly. Could be a driver problem. BTW I sure hope my copy arrives soon
  22. I have a 200MMX, 64mb, V2, SB Live! The demo works just fine. Will the full version work OK? Anyone tried it on a similar system?
