  1. Since you are obviously not interested in learning, why should I bother sharing any information with you? We could have had a nice discussion about recon in force doctrine, during which both of us could have learned something. To do so, I just needed to know the level of your knowledge about other nations practice. Since you want to see that request for elucidation as a put-down, fine. You'll just continue believing that the Germans did everything better and more aggressively than everybody else and were generally superior, while I won't bother reading your posts in the future. That way we are both happy, you in your ignorance, and I save time. </font>
  2. Earthlink Cable modem. Smokin fast, except when it aint....
  3. Bumping it again because all the other CM fans seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.
  4. Port Ellen if you can find it. They don't make it any more..
  5. Not that my non-grog status gives my opinions any weight, but I do recall reading that German soldiers hated the .50 cal machine gun. Im sure this was because it was used in an anti-infantry capacity. Not that this has any bearing on the thread, which regards the particular use of the AA .50 cal on the Sherman tank....
  6. In case anyone is interested, "shlukha" means slut. Its extremely rude, and I suggest you don't say it to any Russian natives unless you are prepared to accept the possible consequences.
  7. According to the ASL designer notes, it means "bitch". SU-76 crews nicknamed their vehicles this. There are some Russian women at work, perhaps I'll ask them. Then again, maybe not.</font>
  8. Actually, when the fewmets hit the windmill (so to speak) Stalin dictated a major shift in propaganda efforts. Previously the main thrust had been a "Socialism in One Country" effort with the major themes of soviet workers and peasants uniting. But after the German attack, the Church and the themes of Russian nationalism and the Rodina were ... resurrected, presumably because Stalin and the Politburo considered them to be more effective in motivating the populace. If you review Russian posters chronologically, which I did when doing my undergraduate thesis this split is pretty easy to see. It would have to be, as I'm no genius.
  9. Bumping this because, as all Right Thinking People know, Noo Yawk is the center of the universe and all you barbarians east of Coney Island or West of Columbus Circle will just have to lump it.
  10. The song has to be converted at a particular sampling rate in order to sound right. Im sure someone smarter than I will be along shortly to tell you what that is.
  11. I'm offended by this whole discussion. Why? I don't like urban battles much. Thats why.
  12. Brooklyn here. But I work in Manhattan on 19th and 5th. I'm up for it. But I warn you, you play a dangerous game. I tried to organize a CM beerfest some months ago and nobody came. I did learn, however, that Burp Castle charges WAAAAAAY too much for Hoegaarden. (Not that this would bother me now that I've switched to drinking Coors Lite and assorted faux-maltopop exclusively.)
  13. Got the patch. Thanks, guys. But you know, thanks in a cool, laid back kind of way, so you don't think I'm a rabid fanboy sort of person.
  14. I think that the consensus so far is that a determined infantry defender in good cover with time to prepare a position is nearly impossible to see if he lies doggo and doesn't open fire. I guess the game tends to give the defenders the benefit of the doubt, and make them pretty tough to spot when they are lie-in-wait mode. I guess veterans or regular troops would be much less likely to open fire at long range when in ambush, but greens or conscripts might have a better chance of blowing the ambush early. The tank think is strange though. An immoblie, or dug in tank might be able to hide in scattered trees if it had been camoflaged, but a moving, active one? That seems unlikely....
  15. I had a lot of fun playing Clash of Minors or whatever that scenario on the CD is where the Hungarians play the Romanians, or something. You guys should try that one. It reminded me of the fun days playing CMBO.
  16. The thread is garbage, and only I know why. Its because nobody is factoring in relativistic acceleration. Thats why.
  17. I don't know if it changes your theory at all, but the Ancient Egyptians considered the Sun the source of all life, and they had a very well developed system of symbology that had no swastikas in it at all....
  18. I think CMBB is harder. I managed a Total Defeat in Assault on Moon. And on Cemetary Hill I got a minor defeat and then a major defeat. The changes to the game engine make it harder. But I think it is more realistic. My pixel soldiers desert when they see me coming. Your English is fine. It is better than some Americans I know. And some British folks too.
  19. Two words guys: Root Cellar. If your tank falls into that, the least of your problems is a thrown track. [ October 23, 2002, 03:07 PM: Message edited by: Terence ]
  20. Im about to start this for the third time, and Ill be damned if I can figure out what to do. Ive Nearly any way you approach this, it seems you get pinned down and cut to bits... Anyone (Andreas, you sadist!!) care to post X and Y preceeded by Spoiler warnings???
  21. I made a big pot of cassoulet, and brought along a case of Chateuneuf du Pape. Also, my wife baked some bread... anyone interested? I have some calvados for afterwards.. It goes nice with the flourless chocolate cake or the tarte tatin. Take your pick. I've got both.
  22. Exact same thing happened to me. Check the post by Cameroon in the Scenario Talk forum. There's a very helpful thread on Jaegermeister and a totally useless whining post by me.
