  1. Well, if you can figure out how to do it just have a bunch of tank crews (no armor) and have them fight it out. I think that has to be the gamest tactic. Eric
  2. Well, if your allied maybe it's help from partisans. If your german maybe it's from a spy left behind. Eric
  3. Dad, If the Demo will work on your computer then so will the game. As to ordering over the internet, I've had no problems with at least 8 different sites I've order from in the last year. If you are still concerned I recommend e-mailing someone at BTS for a phone number that you can place an order on. If your son is willing to use his hard earned (or saved) cash, allow him the chance to learn what it's like to be a consumer. Father of three Eric
  4. I've also joined the lurkers. But I think the main reason is there use to be alot more humorous posts. Now they all seem dry and when you try and start one no one seems to respond or take it too seriously. Sure miss the good old days of a year ago. Eric
  5. Sounds like to me your playing "Capture the Flag" Could be very interesting and fun. Eric
  6. Just curious. I am not running any mods (older computer and don't want to push it). If I download the battle pack, would they still play using the orginal textures? Eric
  7. Man everytime I order my tanks to fire smoke at a pillbox they usually only fire one round . Then my tank usually gets knocked out by return fire  . Oh well it's only a game (at least that's what I keep telling myself). Eric
  8. Don't recall ever seeing a pole of what people consider "gamey" tactics in CMBO. Just curious, what do you consider as a gamey tactic or use of something (vehicle, tank, infantry, etc. My personel thought of a gamey tactic is to use a crew from a tank or disable mortar as scouts. Another is to send a poor smuck of a flamethrower out in the open to see who shoots at him and from where. Eric
  9. Just curious, do you have a discription of the battles and operations somewhere? Eric
  10. I was just looking thru all the scenarios I now have and realize there is a whole bunch I still haven't played. I wonder how many out there actually play all the scenarios that the download. Now I am not talking about those big Rune (I think that's the name) downloads that contain like 10 different games. I mean when you are looking through scenarios at a site and you think that one sounds like fun, so you download it. Just thought it would be fun to think about why we download and never get around to play the scenario. Eric
  11. Actually it is historical to use a unarmed jeep for scouting if it carries some troopers. It was common to use as a scout durning the Normandy breakout and at the very end of the war to send a couple of troops with a radio to scout out ahead of a Armor unit to look for ambushes. I don't know how well it translates into CMBO. Eric
  12. I once managed to get a flamethrower into action on attack and knocked out a bunker . The rest of the time they just seem to be targets. I just had one riding on the back of a Sherman with a .50 cal unit and he got snuffed from very long range. It didn't even cause the tank commander to button up. Must have been an expert sniper that got a head shot. Eric
  13. Frenchy, My wife and I just gave our middle son his own computer as his HS grad gift. That's why I get a 1/2 hour here and there. If he didn't have his (with his own internet connection) I wouldn't get any. Eric
  14. OK Try a 15 year old daughter who uses the computer to IM (instant message) 3 different people at the same time for around an hour. When someone leaves another shows up and the whole thing starts again. If I am lucky I get about 1/2 hour to check e-mails and this group. But I do usually get 1-2 hours on Sat to try a play (if something doesn't come up). Believe me it does not get any easier when your kids grow up. They usually end up think the computer is theirs and let you have it once in a while. Eric
  15. Starting to think about upgrading to a new computer but I have a question. I am not worried about CMBO because I will just reload and download the upgrade but what about the games I have downloaded. Some I can no longer find as downloads. Would you save the scenarios to a disk and download it to my new harddrive or what? Thanks for your comments. Eric
  16. The best way to learn is to just start with a simple kit (most Tamiya kits work). Then just take your time. Just keep trying and don't worry what other people think. You might look around for modeling groups in your area. Most good ones will help you with your projects. Eric
  17. I was just surfing the different CMBO sites and looking at some Sherman mods when I notice that none of the Sherman's had bow machine guns. Checked some Stuart's and samething. I realize that it does not affect the game play of the Sherman but with all the mod's out there I surpised that someone didn't add the gun to them. Eric
  18. I only play at the realistic setting. But when I am giving orders or setup sometimes I will go up to 4x and without trees to make sure I don't miss someone. I also will use the show paths command to make sure all those I wished moved, are selected. If you think it's tough playing with the realistic setting, you should try playing a micro-armor game (1/285 scale) on a 8 ft by 6 ft table (never could see the enemy infantry in those games). Eric
  19. I haven't had a chance to start playing PBEM games yet (or internet) due to lack of time in the evenings to even read my e-mails but I have a question for when I do start. I am still using to original setting from CMBO (due to lack of finances [1 kid in college and another starting next year]) and do not want to push my computer with hi-res mods. Can I play oponents who are using hi-res mods? Eric
  20. Bill, What I do is download the scenario to a "patches" folder I started. I then unzip it to the same folder. Once it is in the folder the you can right click it with your mouse and drag it (while holding the down the right mouse button) to the scenario folder from CMBO. I do it this way in case I loose my CMBO file some reason I have all the ziped files saved in my patches folder. Eric
  21. Has anyone had any luck getting to Boots-N-Tracks from the Militarygamer.net link? I got to the site once when I went to the CM page but it's not there now. Anyone have a direct address for them? Thanks, Eric
  22. Wild Bill, Managed to get to the Boots N Tracks section once, but recently I can not access the Boots N tracks from the Combat Mission section on Militarygamer.net page. Eric
  23. The one thing I am surpised that no one has mentioned is the US doctrine of tank warfare at the time. The US believe that the tank was to break thru the enemy lines and creat panic in the rear areas. Any tank fighting was to be handled by the tank destroyers. This doctrine continue well after D-day. That is why the US still was using towed anti-tank guns till the end of 1944. The Sherman fit the US doctrine. Also Shermans mounting the 76mm could take out a Tiger from the side. Eric
  24. To answer somethings brought in some post. None of the times it has happened was an ambush situation. My units were in a house with support troops in the houses to the rear and sides. They were firing on the German units that were trying to assualt my position. That is why I had an mortar barrage to their front. There was also a platoon leader in the house with them. As to frequency, I don't ever remember seeing units flee towards the enemy before I downloaded the 1.12 patch. I had started with 1.0 and downloaded each patch as it came out. I also played games between patches, so it's not like I missed something in between. My question still remains, is there some order that I can give my troops that will keep them from fleeing foward? Eric
  25. I know this has been discussed before and people are asking for a patch to fix it. But I know we won't be seeing a patch from BTS for CMBO for a long time (maybe never). How do you stop troops from retreating towards the enemy? I am playing First Clash at Cambes (?) against AI as British. I have units in houses engaging the Germans, when suddenly they lose their morale (or something) and go charging the enemy  ! Not only the enemy but into an mortar barrage. It not only happened with a rifle squad but also a platoon leader. How can I stop them from charging? Thanks, Eric
