  1. Oh and one question. Not really an problem, but anyway.. When you select mod you can select what options you choose and then you have Done and Apply buttons. Does anyone else think that when you press Done your selection should be applied and window closed? With current funtionality it should be Apply and Close. Heh. Can anyone quess what I do for work?
  2. One problem. CMMOS needs to have "Barbarossa to Berlin.exe" in order to work, but european version has CombatMission2.exe ...when created copy with correct name everything started working. Before created that copy I couldn't install any rulesets, it just made clicking noise, and every time started CMMOS it asked where Barbarossa to Berlin.exe is located..
  3. I like Tarqulene's idea. If commanding single platoon of tank in synchronized manner would be made easier it would be great. But if at same time commanding two platoons on opposite side of maps would be made harder it would be great. Of course with Tarqulene's idea there is one thing. What if those 2 platoons were right next to each other, shouldn't it be quite easy to get both moving at same time. Propably should be able to tell HQ A to act as subordinate of HQ B.
  4. Of course it would be much more realistic and better if you could give pause orders that would depend on things happening in battlefield. But lets think which is more realistic to get into game I would think that most pause orders would be in form "when they get there you go" and not wait exactly 30s before you go. So in same sense you should be able to tell your men to go to paint A, wait 20s and continue moving. Of course you could think that with 1 minute turns it is not that important to be able to give midway pause orders.. but try to coordinate assault with conscript T-34s against Tigers and you see that with command delays close to 1 turn you really can't just drive to point A and then on next turn give more orders. But more important thing would be able to see how much command delay you get before new orders kick in even when you can't delete all old orders. Or some "move out when whole platoon is ready" command
  5. Hi, I have been playing with not so experienced soviet tankers (from conscript to regular) and like everyone knows their command delays are somewhere between day and month. When have whole platoon stopped it is OK because can synchronize them with using pauses and just have to plan 3 turns advance. But when for example some of them are moving it gets pretty impossible when you don't have any idea how long their command delay will be. I was thinking if it would be possible to show how long it takes unit to start moving according to new orders. I can tell where old orders stop and estimate how long it takes for them to drive there but also would need to know if it takes 50 or 70 seconds for them to start moving according to new orders.. First was thinking that if unit panel could show command delay for new orders, but then tought about little more complex thing which would also include new way to give commands. What if waypoint would show how long delay unit would have there. For changing orders command delay could be shown in last waypoint of old orders, or in unit panel. But what if also could give pause orders for waypoints? Instead of just saying drive behind that forest and then drive toward that house I could say to my tankers to drive behind that forest, wait 10s and then drive toward that house. Idea how to give this order would be so that you select waypoint where you want to wait and then press pause. Then just show delay next to waypoint type.
  6. I don't see troops tiring as problem. It is so long when I was in army so can't remember how long distance it took to get tired.. and I remember that we used advance in basic training to get everywhere, even to dinner And right now is not in mood to grab 15kg stuff and go running and crawling in forest What I do when expecting enemy to pop up any time is to have for example 2 platoons advancing first. Then some distance behid them is third platoon and support element, they all walk. If they get too much behind they might even run little bit. Then might have fourth platoon in further back and when I decide where I want to get them I can use even run because they are so far away from enemy. After while my 1st or 2nd platoon gets tired so I let them sit there and switch 3rd platoon to front and let them advance. This way always have first troops advancing so enemy can't ambush them unprepared, and they are never too tired to fight. Tools are there, just have to select right one to use. So far it has worked for me.
  7. Hi, My friend is thinking about looking into CM but his machine is not high tech Actually he said it was 450Mhz, don't know yet about display card. I think he said recommended hardware was 500Mhz, so he was thinking about getting CMBO. So I tought I would ask if people have similiar systems and how does CMBB run on them? I would think there would not be any problems at least if have at least some kind 3D card and perhaps don't play big scenarios..
  8. How about adding new 3D model for snow, like for steppe or field. Of course it would not be perfect solution but it would be quite easy (code is already in there) and would make it look nicer. Of course from looking close you could see that this snow is not perfect but from far away it would look like they are not floating on snow. Perfect solution would of course be to make snow so that raise terrain little and draw vehicles like they were bogged all the time, but that would propanly require more changes..
  9. Hi, I have been playing some battles in snow and have bene thinking about one thing. Would it be possible to have it so that it would look like there is actually snow in ground? Currently when there is snow it just means that there is 1cm in ground making it white, but still tanks float on it. Now when there are 3D effects for fields, steppe and other stuff could there be similiar system for snow? Little thing but it would make things look much better if tanks and infantry would not just float on snow...
  10. Those trees in CMBB look quite close to some trees here in southern Finland, but there is one thing that makes them look unreal. Trees in CMBB have leaf starting almost from ground, when real trees I can see from my window all (at leat 99%) don't have leafs below 1.5-2 meters. Tree by Tanks a Lot looks nice, but not anything I have seen around here. Perhaps have to check out rest of trees when they are ready if there would be trees I can see from my window.
  11. And this is bad in what way? It is much more likely to see battalion of type X than company of type X, company of type Y and company of type Z supported by 10 different types of support weapons. I have not yet played QB in CMBB but for infantry that has always been there and I am happy such discounts are in for tanks too (at least I have understood they are)
  12. Actually, not really. The beauty of the internet is that one can link to different sites. So, if we can find someone with the bandwith to host the file storage side someone else can run a site on a different server using a much lower cost hosting scheme to act as a front end. That site would likely need some bandwith but not a massive amount since preview pics are rather small compared to the files they describe. </font>

I think it has been mentioned earlier but I see that there are two problems setting up mod site. 1) need person to do the hard work 2) need site with space and bandwith For first I have no solution because it takes certain kind of people to put good mod site. At least I want to see comparasion between old and new before I download mods. For second it might be possible to divide the load. Someone suggested that it could be divided by category, like someone hosting soviet armour and other german armour etc. Of course those categories could be smaller than that I think some clear areas like that could be good because if one subsite goes down wouldn't need to change many links. I am going to find out if it would be possible to host some files on our site. We have couple extra machines and have big pipes so technically it wouldn't be problem and I don't even think anyone would notice that extra traffic, but better to check first. So perhaps some modding sites that actually need space to put files and bandwith to move them should inform rest of us and we could see if we can help..
  14. I know there is option how many trees are visible, but like I said I have to hide (set trees to none) if I want to see where my troops are. And if set them to none I sometimes forget where forests are, usually when using view 1 to see what area guns can see etc. When viewing from higher up I can see terrain from ground color. I don't know if trees are bigger than in BO or there are more of them, or it is just me, but I practically have to keep trees to none all the time if want to know what is in forests. (now not sure if this is true for all forest types, but at least those for example in scenario where finns attack Viipuri) What I would love is to have less trees than are visible on smallest tree option. Those few trees would tell where forest is even when can't see ground color.
  15. I read thread and for some reason I am missing point why it would be bad thing if you could tell all types of vehicles in all types of terrain to stay X meters behind previous vehicle? Or better yet have orders like: - stay X meters behind vehicle A using same route as it - stay X meters to direction B from vehicle A Then if vehicle A gets out of LOS then you have to continue on your route as long as you get vehicle A back in your LOS and then you can check if distance is correct. With these commands I could make that truck convoy move on road quite easily. And I could also make group of different kind of vehicles move off-road in formation I want. Sure tank commanders can tell driver to slow down if lead tank they are supposed to follow slows down. If other vehicles not in this formation drive to same area then they could bump into each others like they do now. Same with unexpected stops (enemy firing), just react after see leader stopped and don't crash first and then start to think what to do.
  16. Hi, Is it just me or does CMBB show more trees in forest than CMBO? I have noticed that I have to hide trees if I want to see where my troops are, and with that I sometimes forget that there is forest there.. Would it be possible to add one more option to how many trees are shown, something that would show just few trees? Perhaps half of what is current minimum.
  17. Your version doesn't have that feature? You just press F13 and it gives orders for your units that will confirm your victory
  18. Teddy, I agree with that I propably tried to defend too wide area and didn't concentrate troops enough, might have been more succesful if had more troops defending before town. I remember planning to set couple tanks on my left flank so they could join battle earlier and then pull them back when enemy came closer. Don't now remember why I decided not to, perhaps has something to do with reason why I had my troops so back. And I also usually want to spot enemy tanks before I engage mine, I expected to see some tanks that could open mine extremely easily and didn't want to risk mine too early.
  19. I played demo little bit more and I think it is playable, just couple little things that have to remember. Arcs seem to disappear (they start to blink lightly) when use view 4 or larger, on smaller levels they are clearly visible. Bases are hard to see and units are hard to find from craters and such.. just have to find closest HQ and see where line goes, or select area and see where units are.
  20. Hi, I have laptop from work and have little problem with its 3d card and CM Does anyone know if there are some ways to make CM work correctly with S3 SuperSavage IXC 1014 display card? My problems are: 1) arcs don't always show, when played beta first didn't get them but after few turns they showed (set them in beginning) 2) bases are not fully shown, part of base is transparent and in CMBO I think it also blinked (not sure if blinking was fixed with lates driver update) 3) selection box around unit does not show Those I can remember right away. I know this display card has some problems with other games (I think some z-buffer things), at least in GTA3 sometimes don't see mission markers (blue transparent things..

  22. Teddy, I don't remember on what turn my HTs did exactly what Robert described. They were driving toward enemy location and my troops had order to get out of them quite close to forest. But then they got under fire (or stuck in, can't remember) and stopped just few meters of location where squads were supposed to get out. Result was traffic jam where squads didn't get out because they weren't there yet. And I think I lost few squads when they were still sitting in HTs
  23. My (I am Hodo) selections bizarre? Wonder how you came to that conclusion Wanted to try something new (mechanized force) because usually have played with infantry heavy force, perhaps went little too far But it was fun, and isn't that what counts.
  24. Probably just something to do with exam season and other things taking up time. At least yesterday he looked totally normal so nothing serious..
