  1. I just finished reading a book entitled Steel Rain. I think I understand a great deal more about artillery generally, and am certain it will improve my gaming. Its about Col. Georg Brunchmuller and his contributions in several breakthroughs in the East and West Front. At the least it made me think seriously about how to plan preparations for shoots. I heartily recommend this book.
  2. never discount Sophie Marceau mon vieux!
  3. This grows entertaing. Foobar must buy his electronics from my source. A subtle bump, no.
  4. I will forgive BTS if they will only give us armored trains. I think they'd be a hoot. The AI couldn't be that hard to model. Go Forward, shoot, go back. I'll forgive for horses, dogs, and Finnish assault reindeer if we can have trains.
  5. I like horses and dogs too. I've posted about this one before. I know BTS has many defenders I'm one most of the time myself, but I honestly think they're making a mistake by excluding horses. That's as critical as I care to get. The last time I had the audacity to suggest something on a non BTS forum I got sandbagged by a squadron of self-appointed defenders of western civ. At least BTS considers the possibility of change.
  6. Wasn't the expression "death by Jabo" a very common one on the Wehrmacht in 1944-45. That supposes a certain level of air support. It does kind of beg the question How close is close?
  7. What about those cleverly trained Russian mice who disabled the better part of a Panzer division during or just after Stalingrad?
  8. no spotter planes aren't historically accurate SPWAW doesn't have them.
  9. A couple of points people have used dogs in warfare about as long as the dog has been domesticated. I believe the general German response at first was to simply shoot dogs that presented themselves. Second I want cavalry too. You cannot do justice to many facets of the Ostfront without cavalry, and much of the artillery on both sides was horse-drawn. I like horseys and doggies!
  10. I'm not sure if it was Augustus or Vespasian who originated make haste slowly. Thanks for the replies.
  11. thanks they probably fought on foot 90% of the time. But lots of East Front artillery was horse drawn so how do they plan to model that?
  12. I was wondering if cavalry will be present in cm2. Both sides used varying amounts roughly every Axis contingent except maybe the Croats and Slovaks, used varying amounts and the Soviets used it in large numbers. So Cossacks or no Cossacks.
  13. you are talking about the grenade launcher thingie right. I know some German armor had those but I don't recollect seeing them on any Sherman pix.
  14. There's an old Russian military maxim (pun!) that goes quantity has a quality all its own.
  15. I think by 1944 motorcycle troops, who were pretty offensive-minded, were not very big in the German defensive scheme. They were more widely used earlier by the Germans.
  16. I've heard of that in chess programs. The AI doesn't like any of the choices so it does make a move that marks time, which in chess terms can be very dangerous. In CM ouch.
  17. that was exactly my point, I wasn't clear. If it wasn't invented in Spain it certainly was the Finns who produced Molotovs.
  18. Would Burma-China be a possibilty? There was about as much ground combat as you could wish. Maybe models of the geography would be tricky to code? I know there wasn't a huge US presence but I'm a Slim fan.
  19. the Russians did not invent the Molotov. The first reference is the Winter War. Those fun loving Finns named it for the Soviet foreign minister. I've seen posts that argue the Molotov was actually used in the Spanish Civil War but the posters gave no references.
  20. Kanonier I think you nailed it. I don't think Sajer spoke very good German. Of course the dialect differences in any language can lead to "two people separated by a common language."
  21. Are you gentleman familiar with the old Wehrmacht adage; "When the Tiger roars Mickey tips his hat!". A reference to T34s blowing their hatches when hit by an 88. I believe CM2 will be simply great.
  22. If they look like Sophie Marceau vive le guerre!
  23. Pzkpw 1 I diddn't mean to seem flamish; if I did my apologies. It just boggles the mind that anyone, even as shellshocked as Hitler was by 1944, would can von Manstein and Kleist for Model and Busch.
