  1. Any of you guys who saw a preview see any Partisans? I don't want anyone to divulge anything they shouldn't, but I'm curious as to how they'll be handled.
  2. All useful information. However the question is will they be modeled in the game? Perhaps horse drawn Black Death naval infantry/marines!
  3. I think they were pretty active on the Black Sea coastal areas in 1942. I was also under the impression that in the early years they wore Black hence their nickname.
  4. Ooh let me. "When it's ready" Sorry I couldn't resist.
  5. Thanks but I believe we're talking about the 2nd battle when the Germans captured the city the second time, not when the soviets catured it after Kursk.
  6. I think Hausser actually goofed sending troops into Kharkov. Manstein seems to have thought the bag would have been bigger and losses fewer if the SS armor had swung round and not gotten bogged in street fighting.
  7. Totally shameless. I think they should send an advance copy to everyone's favorite lurker. Moi. Totally shameless!
  8. I'd be hugely interested to read am AAR featuring one of the satellite armies. Everything looks great in the screenshots. The anticipation is huge. Like the man said take my money!
  9. Go carefully first self defense second cavalry charges. A slippery slope!
  10. Didn't Panzer Leader say that first of all he understood that BTS would not model horses, and secondly that he umderstood that cavalry charges had been a rarity since the American Civil War. Impeaching David Glantz is a non starter to anyone with any knowledge of Ostfront history. Someone's probably using cavalry in Afghanistan today though granted charges are probably rare. seriously though Panzer Leader a few years ago I found a copy of a neat book entitled I believe Cavalry in World War II (original eh). I will see if I can find my copy and cite it for you. It had tons of interesting info not only about Soviet and German cavalry, but also Italian and other satellite forces as well. I am convinced your points are valid.
  11. Isn't it interesting how much the new generation of .50 caliber sniper rifles resemble ATRs?
  12. All things are possible but I doubt shooting an ATR ( like the Lahti) from the hip was a common practice. I am intrigued by the use of them also and wonder if they will be employable in those secondary modes.
  13. One of my observations is that both German and Soviet ATG doctrine was to sight as many guns as possible on the same target, and to make the battery commanders concentrate on the likeliest kill. Pakfronts were very effective at times as at Kursk and Belgorod.
  14. Won't this become even more of a concern in CMBB's first couple of years. Working out good techniques for using ATRs will be interesting. I think flank shots will be even more important especially in 1942 scenarios.
  15. I'm curious about the 37mm canister, or really I'm curious about why it's not in the game. Could comeone please enlighten me? I thought it was a very important piece of ammo especially in the Pacific.
  16. Incipient thread hijack. I've read volumes(relatively speaking) about how the difference in gauges slowed the Wehrmacht in 41 but nothing to suggest the same difference slowed the Red Army at all in 44-45. Maybe just a case of Urrah Studebaker! or another lack of foresight in planning Barbarossa.
  17. I remember reading someone's firsthand account about a KV throwing a track and detouring German traffic for hours before some pioneers stuck some satchel charges about the turret ring. Finally the crew tried to break out during the night. It was a very early encounter.
  18. There were some French volunteer units in the Wehrmacht. I know that much, how effective they were is something someone else will have to address.
  19. My impression is that comparing the Su 76 and the Marder is comparing apples and oranges. At least as far as intentions went the Marder's primary role was AT. The SU76 was intended to be more of a classic Stug; infantry support couple with a limited anti-tank capability. The SU85 was a more apt comparison (overlooking caliber) to the Marder.
  20. Weren't Rayoviki (help with spelling) the forerunner of the Spetnaz units? That seems to meet the elite criteria.
  21. Yugoslavia had a treaty in place that basically assured her of a place as a minor ally of the Axis. After the coup, that was when they ran out of options. Again I have great admiration for many episodes of Swedish history just not during WW2. Putting aside the issue of allowing German troops transit rights, and ore shipments, and the use of Swedish coastal waters as protection for convoys. Sweden when there was an allied army in Norway had the opportunity to make a difference and chose to do nothing. When the Finns were fighting for their lives and the Swedes could have made a difference they did nothing. The Yugoslavs and Greeks made the only choice theycould live with in situation where they didn't have choices. That seems to be a huge difference .
