What's everyone's fave stug and panzer iv mod?
MikeE replied to russellmz's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I am using both of Tiger's recent Tan hi-res mods. Not because they are the best, just because they are new! And these tanks are fairly common so i like changing the look every now and then. Mike -
OK, maybe this is normal but again it is a first for me. I had a Sherman with a gun damaged in the last turn of a battle in an Operation. Next battle, the Sherman shows up as abandoned in my setup. Proceed to movie phase to watch the first replay, and the damn thing is rolling forward from its last position, then it stops! Did the guys jump out in between battles and I just see it come to a stop like when it is normally knocked out on the move? I'll say this, it scared the heck out of my opponent and I thought Gen'l Sherman's ghost was in there driving that thing when the movie started. Mike

Update at The Last Defense! More Gunnergoz mods!
MikeE replied to 109 Gustav's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
You are a college student AND a salmon fisherman in Alaska? With time in between for a CM website. In the words of Keanu Reeves "Whoah". Mike -
Wow, i have a much smaller sample of course, but of the pbem games i have played a much larger % have ended as draws. Of 30 or so games my guess is I'm more in the range of 30-40% draws if not more. I wonder if this could be inflated because I tend to play with the same group of people generally? Not to change the subject, but what are others personal experiences with this? Mike

Speckled grass and new tree bases
MikeE replied to gunnergoz's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I suspected some kind of rodent at first, but then I saw they seemed to be crouching more like monkeys instead of standing on hind legs like rodents. That, and I saw one was in the trees. -
Necessary? No, but many like to use them. I find them too much trouble (yes i am lazy) and prefer to play in snow or rain to prevent the purchase of most of the heavy stuff. Or I just let the AI select for both sides. In over 30 pbem games I've never had a problem w/o using them; of course others find them a good compromise so there is obviously merit to them. I should also add i have a pretty good group of pbem opponents (more good ones than I have time for games at the moment) so we don't really need them. Playing new partners often via TCP may be another matter. I also don't participate in any ladder play - they may be useful there but I obviously can't comment on that. I still like the snow or wet field idea for limiting the heavies though... Mike

Speckled grass and new tree bases

Hey, that looks real good! A bit different than the DD stuff I am using but I will give it a try - be sure to let us know when it is available. What are those little things on the grass in the right foreground of the last pic? They look like little 3 legged monkeys. BTW the direct link you posted does not work, but it is ok if you back off the "index." at the end (to get to the Last Defense main page). Nice work. Mike -

A pretty mod, but man I can't but think that is one ugly tank. Did the Brit's have some 90 degree rule, where all the armor had to be straight up and down? On a more serious note, I wonder if this armor was easier to produce, because it was "flat"? Mike

New MOD: narrow targeting/movement lines
MikeE replied to mike8g's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Good idea to show off other author's mods you are using in screenshots. I already got the Kubelwagon after seeing it in Marcus' post and him posting the link to it. Now I'd like that flag too, come to think of it, I'm a bit tired of the big "?" I have been using for seems like forever. -

'CLIPBOARD' orders menu mod now READY!
MikeE replied to deanco's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Another thumbs up from here. It looks really good with the Gunmetal interface. Thanks Deanco! -
Looks real good Mr Clark! I especially like the 3d look of the large snow one. I'll be trying these out right away. Mike

Bergman All Sherman Mod available here NOW!
MikeE replied to Old Dog's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Sweet! Thanks to all involved in creating them and getting them out to us. Mike -
LOL you guys are brilliant! Anyone who even has the game loaded at work obviously has a better job than me. Does it run on NT? thanks to Hawkmek for the Alien "Game Over man" wav; it is really appropriate. And makes me want to watch the movie again. Most encouraging of all is the way BTS named these wav files - do the multiple zeros in front of the number mean they plan version 1000 of CM eventually, or just that many different sounds?? Mike

He and I just finished up a pbem game a couple weeks ago. He said he was going to take a break from playing CM for a while. I have not tried to email him since but his address should the same AFAIK. How long have you been trying to contact him? Mike

"Really, mayhaps we have nothing to say?" Heheh - you think that's a requirement for posting here! LOL!

OPS: Abandoning damaged AFV's between battles?
MikeE replied to MikeE's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Thanks - I knew that immobilized vehicles were sometimes abandoned, but had never seen it happen to a gun-damaged unit. Mike -
Why does everyon love the jackson?
MikeE replied to Thermopylae's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
For the longest time I couldn't figure out why anyone would buy Hellcats or other Allied TDs. I tried a couple here and there in pbem games with no luck - they all died before getting a kill. But, recently i did a quick battle pbem where the AI bought, and I got 3 Hellcats. These guys have taken out 3 Stugs and a whole army of HTs. I now am wishing for more enemy armor as I only have AP ammo! You play this game long enough, you will see it all. Mike AP not HE for the edit [This message has been edited by MikeE (edited 02-11-2001).] -
I am playing the "Misfits at Wiltz" Operation pbem. Towards the end of the 2nd battle (turn 9 of 10) I had a Priest get its gun damaged by artillery. On the next turn I backed him up out of danger, hoping the gun maybe would get repaired later in the Op. Instead, when the 3rd battle started i found my poor Priest abandoned. I've only played 4 or 5 ops all the way through, not enough to know if this is something that happens or should happen at all. I'm not sure why the crew would abandon it in between battles. Is this normal or just a case of "**** happens"? thanks. Mike

Well I can't speak for others, but shyness, fear of being flamed, ignored or etc. is certainly not a concern of mine. I just prefer to read rather than write these days. Where people find the time to write the dissertations you see in some of these technical threads or serious flame wars is beyond me. (Not that I don't enjoy both.) I'm only posting twice in two days because I can't get over that damn smiley legend. Heck I'd be up to over a hundred posts by now, but before asking a question I always do a... well you know. Mike
