  1. To play devil's advocate, think that's to reflect the time it took France to mobilize. However, in game play terms, rather moot. I agree you might as well go fully entrenched. One way to fix it would be to replace the armies with corps and boost the defensive value of the forts even more. Or leave it as it is, and add units to cover the flank. Or the inherent value idea. Would cover large pre-war forts like Sevastopol and the like. Don't think any nation ever abandon something they had poured so much resources into lightly. Value could be adjusted as needed. Sevastopol - a lot. Mannerheim Line - not so much. Later in the game, not knowing how the engineer units build fortresses for something like the Atlantic Wall or Siegfried line or such, would be nice if there was a dialog box specifying the amount of MPP you want to pour in to a fort. No need to fortify the Gustav Line to the same amount as the rest, you're already sitting in pretty good terrain. Or perhaps, the longer the engineer unit sits there, the stronger the fort gets would be another, more elegant way to do it.
  2. No, the whole point of a fortress is to make an army's position more defensible. Empty buildings don't shoot at an advancing force. Various barriers (dragon's teeth, mine fields etc) might slow movement, but casualty rates are insignificant. </font>
  3. Exactly. So, have you considered the fact that by leaving a union with England, you'll gut funding for something like the Royal Navy? Leaving you in even worse position than you were before? Cuz I know you got the hots to go off haring around on peacekeeping missions, but I really think your missing your core mission as part of an island nation. Probably end up a defense freeloader like say…Ireland.
  4. Fresh venison medallions in red wine with sauteed onions & mushrooms. And there's even a wee drop of red wine left over in the bottle. Aah, life is good.
  5. Er, it frees up manpower to cover the flank without a fortress?
  6. So a fortress has no value without an army based on it? Seems a bit odd. The whole point of a fortress is you don't need an army to defend it.
  7. And we can only hope that she doesn't trust the accuracy of oral thermometers. (Or the ones that go in your ear, either!) </font>
  8. Ah, what's it equal to in Inf strength? Sounds like just a little more tweaking needed. Perhaps take away one French Army and spread the strength among the forts?
  9. I think that would finish him. And we don't want him to die happy, now do we?
  10. Well then, it looks like the Scots will be the first nation to not fall prey to the temptation. Btw, I look forward with anticipation to the Welsh Army.
  11. Which brings us right back to why have an independent Scottish Army? All you've done is added an extra layer (or three) of paperpushers, and the first time you pick kit that's not in the standard buy, you've increase costs.
  12. My point was more, "What if you want to go and "they" won't let you"? As I said before, I think a Navy would be more useful for Scotland than a Army. Transport the other sods.
  13. Perhaps a fix would be to give the fortress their own inherent defense value?
  14. Well, you've effectively just handed control of Scottish foreign policy to the English then. Ain't going anywhere without them. So why bother with a separate Army at all? But, if you're serious about Scottish independence, look at sea shipping rates compared to air freight. The need for some sort of Navy becomes rather clear.
  15. I'm a huge fan of Civ too. However, this release was fubar'ed. I couldn't even get the damn thing to load. From reading the forums, quite the mess. Btw, did this game really need the system specs they put it out on? Would have had a much broader market if they had dropped the 3-D eye candy.
  16. But what do you need the Strykers for without a Navy? Seems to me you'd be better off buying the assault ships and frigates.
  17. Speaking of which, we need to let Seanachai feel the joy of being beaten about the ears by the Romans again. You can be Emperor Elagabalus, that'll give you a chance to wear that new dress and hit him with your purse.
  18. Poor guy, you got a Dear John letter? Ah, forget about him, he didn't deserve you, the bum.
  19. Oooooo, the only thing hotter than Cop on Cop sex is Sergeant on Sergeant! And in a latrine too! Way to take one for the team, NG cavscout!!!
  20. Interesting that most of the subs are in the Baltic now. Is there room to run the gauntlet?
