You Germans have it; now tell us about it.
Arsenal replied to KG_Jag's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Are you able to move infantry along a trench, say from one end of it to the other and still have it provide cover for them? Is it full cover?(deep trench) where by you could move along it and not be seen or shot at or are they more like foxholes? -
More Rugged Defense CM Tournament AARs?
Arsenal replied to TeddyB's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'm also interested in some more of their AARs. They make for a great learning tool IMO. I hope they do an aar on the round 5 map as well, that map looks to be a real challenge and it would be interesting to see how the players approached attacking and defending on it. -
Some thoughts on the new camera movement system…
Arsenal replied to billcarey's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Well, I like the the new system. Why? because I'm a lazy bastard and lazy bastards don't like to move their index finger on their left hand a couple of inches forward to press the shift key. Now all I need to do is move the mouse with my right hand, movements at the wrist and below only, if possible. Thankyou BTS, you make lazy bastards proud -
Citadel : Bogging in steppe ?
Arsenal replied to Zarquon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I've had a couple of pzIIIs bog in that scenario but they managed to avoid becoming immobilised and got themselves moving again. -
Cool things I have noticed - *Possible Spoilers*
Arsenal replied to OGSF's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Really? wow!, that is damn cool. Not a new thing to cmbb I guess, but I had an A/T rifle team surrender to my pzIII, then unsurrender then resurrender. They did this 3 times in one turn. Is fear of being shot as a prisoner coded in the game? -

Fionn, Do you have any recommendations for websites or books regarding Soviet doctrine? A book called Deep Battle is the only one I've read that probably relates to it. -
Hehe,I don't think there's been this much interest in a pbem challenge since Kiwijoe's infamous post "I've won so many games,I'm getting bored". I'm with Redwolf,We want the show!

Rugged Defense CM Tournament AARs - Buckeye vs Barleyman
Arsenal replied to RobH's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Fionn,I for one would be interested in more AARs.I've always enjoyed and learnt alot by reading yours, aswell as posts on tactics by people like Pillar,Claymore,Los.I'm sure there are a lot of lurkers who would be interested too,so don't be discouraged . Buckeye and Barleyman, excellent AARs.I've only had a chance to watch up to turn 9,but from what I've seen it looks like a real tough map to attack on.I looked at the results and saw only 3 axis wins out of 12 games on that map  . I'm kicking myself for not joining this tourney when it was first announced, because it looks like a lot of fun.I like the whole idea of playing through the editor with custom maps. Will there be anymore like this at RD in the future? -
Direct fire HE against armour
Arsenal replied to Capitalistdoginchina's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I've seen this happen quite a bit using flak guns. When you target something they can't knock out they switch to HE after a period of bouncing AP rounds and then cause gun damage and track damage. [ April 22, 2002, 07:06 AM: Message edited by: Jazza ] -

A few beasts, or a swarm of tiddlers??
Arsenal replied to Major Catastrophe's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Gen has good advice. Forget churchill 95s their gun accuracy sucks at the long range engagments you'll find in 5000point games. Pershings cost too much, you can buy a jackson and a priest for alot less. The jacksons gun while not as good as the pershings, will still kill panthers and to make up for it's low amount of HE you've got the priest. All the brit tanks with 17pdrs have thin armour so your really just buying them for the gun.So it makes sense to get the cheapest. The archer might be too wierd to use if you're just learning,so the next best thing is the archilles. If you just want to kill panthers buy a mix of them and 17pdr a/t guns.Get some humber scout cars to distract the panthers so you can get off the first shots. -

Arsenal replied to Major Catastrophe's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yeah, but a smart player will have 20mm flak/50mm pak guarding his flanks against m18/m8/stuart rushes, either that or he should keep his panthers back with good los to spot any rushes in the making and manuever against them. If it was me I would probably use the cheap stuff like jacksons along with m8's/priest for infantry or as brits maybe 17pdr a/t guns or archilles. -
Exposure Percentages, including Foxholes
Arsenal replied to Wreck's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
What about rough? IIRC it has decent cover and concealment, better then scattered trees I think, although not as good as buildings and woods/tall pines.
