  1. SPOILER* Agreed. I've played this scenario twice, both times with the Krauts. I was originally appalled with my force alignment-- especially when I saw the US armored force. The heroes were an immobolized panther nestled on the trail heading out of town but with wonderful lines of fire. Knocked out 7 vehicles, 4 after a track hit-- and survived the duration. In addition the German security troops in the houses near the enemy troops scored 36 kills to 4 losses without panic. Wonderful scenario. I do believe the forces are heavily balanced in the defenders favor. Haven't played the Amis yet. 210mm rockets. awesome.
  2. Cool... What are the specs on this beast? ------------------ "That's some catch, that Catch-22."
  3. Who are you? What can't you do, Madmatt? My biggest concern is with full fog-of-war, as there is a real danger of getting an hour or so into a ridiculous scenario-- and realizing the limited CM playing time could have been better spent elsewhere. Thanks!
  4. I disagree that a rating system would not provide some discernment of good/bad/ugly. Scenario creators love their build like a child, but some babies be ugly. These ugly babies I wanna keep at arm's length. As time goes on, good developers will be sought out (WBW for one). However, having a pseudo moderated scenario/operation repository would be helpful for people who have to husband their CM playing time. Plus having your scenario at the top of the heap might be good motivation. As far as criteria, I would include: 1) quality of immersion: sounds and scenes 2) balance of forces 3) reasonableness of objectives 4) replayability Whatever. The number of scenarios and operations are growing at an alarming rate-- which is great! Numerous web sites with scenarios is great-- but I want the mother ship culling the best of the best of the best, sir! ------------------ "That's some catch, that Catch-22."
  5. I think Juardis is looking for perhaps a "best-of", a site where scenarios are vetted and recommended-- either by a panel of "experts" or by majority vote among the players. The latter would make sense with a simple 3-5 question survey. A ranking system given number of recommendations, and answers to the survey-- could sort out the chaff. There will be tons of chaff. I want to take advantage of the community as quickly as possible-- and find the scenario developers that build quality, deep immersion scenarios-- And have quick and easy access to them!
  6. Scenarios are sprouting like mayflies. Is there a move underfoot to catalogue and allow users to rank scenarios? The scenarios are far flung among numerous web sites-- which is a good thing. However, a repository of those with high praise would be nice (and a means for user rank and comment). Rankings might include: 1) Quality of immersion 2) ?? When I get my cable modem, I'll probably down load them all anyway. Along those lines it would nice to have subfolders to catalogue scenarios in the scenario/operation select screen. ------------------ "That's some catch, that Catch-22."
  7. So... did you do a search? This was covered circa post 12253 in a memorable exchange between gReaSy_spOon and Capt_buttspackle (a real kvetch). C’mon, geesh.
  8. My first scenario out of the box. I was overwhelmed with positioning the defender, so let the game ride for 4 turns. Sat back and snickered as the german vehicles rumbled into view for freaking ever. Yikes. The road of death. I set my 4.5" spotter right in front of the road, hidden very well by a tree, and he blew the crap out of everything-- just marched the shots up the road. Snickered some more when the reinforcements showed up. I couldn't stand it and went to bed. This scenario is sick. I hate it for the hours of sleep it will rob me of.
  9. >34% and only 280 votes. Not a lot of traffic. Represents approx 12000 US of purchases only!
  10. And the Sleep Deprivation Prevention Techniques Forum? And the Help Wanted/Jobs Forum for the soon to be unemployed? And the Optometrist/Opthomologist Forum? And the...
  11. As misfortune would have it, my PBEM partner returns from vacation this weekend and I depart. This leaves me at a distinct disadvantage-- well, probably not-- but I am jealous. Anyway to get a manual online so I can at least make it well thumbed? Shipping update?
  12. In CE I rushed a Stug loaded with an HMG and 1/2 green squad, plus ran a squad of vets across the road and into the far left deep woods across the road (the forest almost creates a garage to hide the Stug on the german left flank). With the HMG and 1.5 sqads prepared to create a murderous field of fire on the american right flank between the forest and the copse of trees-- I bided my time. When the remaining sherman had finished off the 2nd to last Stug (shocked and incapable to kill its 3rd (and last) Sherman)-- it turned to open up on the church-- and sat there lovingly sihloutted with a broad starboard side for targeting. I opened up on the exposed troops and moved the stug from behind the trees fast and into firing position. When the Stug fired up the noise had to have gotten the americans attention, only to watch them turn into a hale of bullets. The Sherman couldn't swing its turret fast enough and maneuver for cover fast enough-- plink gone. First true ambush I've pulled off-- and it was luscious. Awesome game.
  13. Already told two people: nope! I only own three games, and they are all small house developers. I want CM-Part Pi!
  14. Thus far scoring an 80 in CE has been my best (using a hyper-offensive charge down the road with my armor on the right, and a feint on the left). However, I incurred far more casualties than I wanted. It is likely because I continued to rapidly push the offensive after knocking out the Stugs (though I did wait for the ground troops to recover the armor's position). What casualty rate would be acceptable? Is 30-50% indicative of success (this seems awfully high) or have I been softened by casualty rates expected in modern conflicts? What about defensive casualties?
