  1. Of course all we have to see of the allies are the Sherman and 'Cat. The Germans get: The Tiger, Stug, 88 Flak and Halftracks. Much more interesting. When the Allies get their big guns and some more interesting units (British too!) I'd bet the balance will swing. - Bill
  2. Offwhite, I am currently PBEMing a couple of people who play on PCs and the files are perfectly interchangeable. I think that the game is being developed either concurrently or on the Mac first, so I would think that both versions will be released at the same time. - Bill
  3. Searched and didn't find anything... What exactly does having the crew of an 8 hide mean? I would think that it would be the big gun and not the little guys running around it that would attract attention. - Bill
  4. Only Steve, Charles and God and they ain't saying. Patience... The game is worth the wait. - Bill
  5. Aargh... the URL tag picked up the period... the real address is : http://patriot.net/~carey/cmso/ without the period. - Bill
  6. Aah - the american dream lives on... Capt, it is really easy to learn to use Res Edit to change graphics and (imho) quite useful. Open up a copy of the CM graphics file in Res Edit and just play around. (Mandatory disclaimer: never open your system folder in res edit. never. ) Pretty soon you'll get the hang of it. Also from a programming standpoint it would be *really* time comsuming to put an image editor into CM for a very marginal (read nonexistant) return. I would rather have Steve and Charles work on the CM parts of CM and leave the graphics to Photoshop. Right now I am playing with a program to "shuttle" the image files back and forth between the Mac and PC, but I'm not the best programmer in the world... Anyone good with C and the Macintosh Toolbox? If you want the hack, you have to be willing to get your hands a little dirty - Bill
  7. Once the gold version is released there will be a bunch of user created scenarios posted at CM Scenarios and Operations http://patriot.net/~carey/cmso. The site is up now, but dosen't have much there yet (only there scenarios) It also has a discussion board for reviews, hints, and scenario creation ideas. - Bill
  8. Also my understanding is that parts of the drive train were not armored (because they were under the tank) and it may be that part of thee drive train took a bullet. - Bill
  9. Capt. You can "port" the set to the mac quite easily with a copy of Res-Edit (Free from apple). Open the Graphics file and copy the bmp images to the corresponding images in Res Edit. WARNING: Copy your files first or be prepared to download them again. Res edit can screw up your files if you aren't careful. - Bill
  10. Steveo, if you drag the CM instructions to Netscape (or Explorer) whichever you use to surf the web it will show up all nice and pretty - Bill
  11. Mark IV, Is that Starship Troopers the book or movie? They are completely different in every regard (that I can think of). I prefered the book to the movie personally - Bill
  12. CoolColJ, If you *really* don't want to have German and american flags, there is something you can do. Open up the CM graphics and copy the neutral flag onto the german and american ones. Then when someone takes a flag you won't be able to tell. - Bill
  13. This is not an official answer, but... I think part of what is confusing you is that ff board artillery is somewhat abstracted. The ammo count for your FO is not the amount of rounds that will be called down (and then the battery runs out of shells) rather it is how much fire has been alloted to your current mission. So when you have 24 ammo with an 81mm observer it means that the battery of 81s will give you 24 attacks worth of support. There is not a 1 to 1 correspondence between ammo and how many explosions there are. Additionally (I think) when your FO is empty it dosen't mean that the battery is out of rounds, it just means that they arent sending any more your way. Because the ammo isn't tracked round for round the FO wouldn't run out of smoke and still have HE. He either has rounds of whatever types he needs or can't get any more. I'm not a beta tester or Steve or Charles, so if I'm wrong, someone in the know jump in - Bill ------------- Combat Mission Scenarios and Operations - For all your scenario needs http://patriot.net/~carey/cmso
  14. I play as both Axis and Allied. I think you are shortchanging yourself if you only play as one side. Because of the difference in units, the game is very different from the German and Allied perspectives. Stugs and Shermans... I personally like the Germans in CE. Much more interesting. - Bill
  15. That picture is going to be a changed often thing like once a week, or however often I get a cool screenshot hint... hint... hint... if anyone has any cool ones - Bill Carey
  16. Simple text cannot load any files greater than 32k because of a dumb limitation in the Text handling APIs apple has not upddated for 15 years However, just drag the instructions to netscape and they will open fine. - Bill
  17. I doubt that BTS will be able to set up such a page simply because they are working very fulltime on CM (which is a good thing - thanks guys), but If you want to set up a page it would be very interesting. - Bill
  18. Aargh... I don't have a really good screenshot of this... Have one before though. I would think that there would be a minimum range at which smoke can block LOS - something like 10 meters. This proably won't make 1.0 (unless it is in already ) but would be useful when the whole map is covered with smoke (stupid 81mm observers...) Anyway, the barrel of the tiger was sticking out the back of the turret of the hellcat when it fired. Wish I had the screenshot... - Bill
  19. Actually (I just talked to scott on the phone) I think he is zoomed in alot with the "]" key to get a good picture. I don't think it is the scaling. Look how huge the house is and it dosen't scale with shift-c - bill
  20. Still, no answer to my original question (although the taunt fest was interesting. I still think I could whoop up on both of you combined and write an AAR to prove it.) Is there a movement penalty for going *downhill*. It's no big shakes, I just think it would make the game a little more realistic for steep slopes which I plan to use alot. - Bill
  21. I'm up for some PBEM action. Anyone for Riesberg or CE? I've got some games running, but can respond many many times a day. I love breaks. - Bill
  22. Definitely a penalty for going up hill I would think, but my real question is: Is there a penalty for gowing *down* hills? I have done a not insignificant amount of walking over very hilly ground (without people shooting at me) and I have found that going down steep hills is almost as tough as going up them. Any info on this type of movement? - Bill
  23. Is there a movement penalty for moving up or down hills? I would think you would get tired going either way. - Bill
  24. So I can get about twice the height difference that LD has? This is going to be a nasty scenario! A river in a gorge, a small town, and a road running along the side of a mountain. A couple of panthers, some SPW 251s 2 german VG companies, and some FTs. All the allieds get is 2 armored cars, pair of zooks and 1 company. Basically, it will boil down to who can use the extreme terrain better This game (beta demo) is the coolest. Like the new forum too. - Bill
  25. Mark IV, How did you make the Bulging Eye Face? Is this something new in the new forum? - Bill
