1. Riesburg was a beta demo scenario - no longer relevant - but it will be included in the full game. (the file format of the beta demo is incompatible with the gold code) - Bill
2. Good against remotes - that's one thing. Good against the living - that's another. Hose some humans and I'll be impressed. I'll give you a good fight if you want - either scenario either side (I'll play Germans at equal - no +25%) Skill is my ally and luck is the only weapon I need. - Bill
3.
quote:
That's it! I can't take it any longer, I'm going to Clown College!

I'll thank you not to refer to princeton that way! (Even though I go to UVA ) - Bill
4. *speaking out from the place the sun don't shine * while encrapification is in many cases used as you pointed out (along the lines of encrypt) decrapifications is derived from Latin: "de" meaning "down from", "crap" meaning "crap", and the verb facio, facere meaning "to make or do" hence "decrapification" literally means "a making of crap down from" while "encrapification" more commonly means "making of crap out of", a subtle but important distinction. - Bill
5. On the mac version it does. I think that this is handled by the OS's standard file manager (unless windows is *really* lame) which BTS would not be able to change... Don't really know - just guessing. - Bill
6. also, I haven't seen the blue green unit select square. Is this also a change in the newer version (maybe blue green for winter, yellow for summer and red for night...) - Bill
7. Decrapification (n) (1) The quality of being decrapified. (2) A reduction in effectiveness so as to ensure crappiness in a military unit. (3) The antonym of "recrapification" (4) A gratuitous excuse by which "crap" can be included in a post to the CM discussion board. from "The Dictionary of Words I Made Up Because I am Bored Waiting for the Gold Demo to Be Released" (2000 Edition)
8. Krille, I generally do hide all but a very few troops in LD. If you want them to hold fire you can use a HQ unit to set an ambush very close to the unit you want not to shoot, and have that unit target the ambush. Then it will (usually) hold fire. Sometimes greenies and conscripts get a little trigger happy. - Bill
9. Right, I got that. What I am asking is does the squad that gets the higher ranking officer perform differently that the other squad (weapons nonwithstanding) - Bill
10. I understand the decrapification of firepower when squads are split, and the morale loss because #s 7-12 aren't there to get shot at instead of you, but is there a bigger morale penalty for the half-squad that gets the dinkier officer? I would think 5 guys and a corporal would run away faster than 5 guys and a sargeant. Never having been shot at in either situation I don't know. Are half squads treated equally, or is there a "better" half? Just rambling until the Gold Demo comes out... - Bill
11. Luck, but realistic luck. I've seen shots better than that, but not many. The zook fires a shaped charge that will penetrate armor (almost) regardless of impact velocity. It's just a matter of getting it there - Bill
12.
quote:
Oh another neat thing to have would be to be able to determine line of sight from a point to another point without actually having a unit at the point....

The final decision about this was IIRC no. This would make the game too calculated and not seat of the pants command enough (and I agree. It would be artificial to wander around the map doing LOS every meter looking for that *perfect* position.) - Bill
13. Having just played a very good and hard fought game of Last Defense against Bil, I knew he wouldn't rush all 5 shermans up to treelines so I could kill them. There is really nothing a german player can do against 5 shermans without some *long range* anti armor unit. Knowing this, I ran like hell If I had put up staunch resistance in the big woods, I probably could have broken up the perfect game, but it would have been at the cost of many many more lives. Better to run and regroup a couple miles back when my Jadtigers show up It still was an incredible game by Bil. - Bill (with two "l"s)
14. Smoke. Smoke is your friend. What the cat can't see, the cat can't hit. - Bill
15. Yep - that was me! For the record (to defend my honor and what is left of my tattered dignity ) I did fight Bil to a respectable minor victory (for me) in Last Defense. Anyway - I respect the lives of my troops. Five shermans would rack any infantry formation. You know it. Right. Sure. That's what they all say - Bill (the 0 end of the perfect game)
16. Note: Argument Against Real-Time Follows. Real Time essentially means a one to one correspondence between the time used for giving orders and the time used in seeing them executed. You have one minute to give orders for a minute. If any advocade of real time wants to play against me taking 60 seconds for each of his orders phases, send me an e-mail. Tactics? Strategy? Cohesion? Forethought? Planning even? If you can bring all of that to bear at the rate of 60s per turn, play some other game! I take usually about 15 - 30 min for setup alone. - Bill
17. I read somewhere earlier on the board the PFs had fragmentation sleeves that made them more Anti personnel effective. Was there anything of that ilk for the zook or was it pure shape charge? - Bill
18. Believe me Lorak, the smoke is on the way. Hey - second hand smoke has to be better than first hand HE - Bill
19. I first saw this in a LD game against Bil Hardenberger, and almost wet my pants and ran screaming. Almost... Anyway, arty smoke is now an integral part of any and all offensive action I undertanke. It lets you get to close range and hammer away. - Bill
20. Well, Combat Mission Scenarios and Headquarters is up and waiting for the Editor. Right now it has a diccussion board and reviews of all the scenarios. When the editor ships it will also have archives of scenarios for double blind play. http://patriot.net/~carey/cmso - Bill
21. Any word on a Mac version? The demo has me drooling for the rest... - Bill
22. DC, There have been some very contraversial things posted to this board that have no been blasted. I think it is not the content of the messages you post, but the style and language you use in posting them. Most new posters (including myself) asked questions or offered suggestions hoping for an informed response from those on this board who really know their stuff. You may well fall into the latter group (I don't know), but entering a group with very aggressive posts is an abrasive entry to say the least. E.G. If your SPR thread had asked if anyone had any problems with the tactics of the squad level assault at Normandy and the effectiveness of the M1 as a supressing weapon I think it would have been treaded as a serious attempt at dialog and exchange of ideas and knowledge. Claiming SPR is crap dosen't foster an exchange of ideas of knowledge... I hope you will return to the board, as there is much to be learned here. Just my 2ยข - Bill
23.
quote:
This is not a replacement for the Big-Ass-O-Fun Spectaculars, tis just something to keep you guys busy while I go out and try to lead a real life!

Real life? Is that Gold yet? I think the version I have is still an early beta demo. Please, Please release it soon! I've heard the graphics and realism are solid and the AI opponnents are vicious. - Bill
24. Very cool as always Madmatt. Will the POTD only showcase things we have already seen (i.e. running anims and pillboxes) or will new features appear in the POTD? Also, any chance for a POTH, POTM, or POTS for the really obsessed people? (O.K. POTS is pretty unrealistic... I can still wish...) Also, I like the steep hills. - Bill
