1.
quote:
Originally posted by the bewildered and insecure Stuka: Wheres the rules?

Taken from the Dark Ages before Da Thread had a patron saint. Bill (or Peng) takes no responsibility for these rules and frankly (Frank, that is) does not care one iota if they aren't followed by persons who have been posting to Da Thread for a time longer than 500 years. From the keyboard of the Bard here it is: ALROIGHT, THEN! HEADS UP, MOUTHS CLOSED, AND LISTEN TO THE ORFICER, YOU LOT! The Rules of the Peng Challenge Thread are quite straightforward, really. Astonishingly simple, in fact, in a complex world. First off, no one here likes you, has any desire to know you, and, in fact, the entire sodding Universe doesn't give a stuff what you want or have to say. Go Away. Should you remain on despite the first rule, we next wish you to know that coming in, striking a pose, and challenging everyone in the Thread to a match will cause the wastelands to echo with laughter, and you will look like the stupid pillock you are. You will then be told to Go Away, more forcibly, and people will really begin to mean it. Pick someone out, preferably something as newly arrived and worthless as yourself, taunt and challenge it, and you might get a game. Next, you should sound off as though your wit, courage, and intelligence were not in question. In the vulgate, Sound Off As Though You've Got a Pair! I believe it is. Oh, and more than half a brain, please. If you sound off well, wittily, and with great force of person and humour, you may be accorded a measure of respect here, perhaps for the first time in your doubtless tawdry little life. It's something to look forward to. Finally, while sounding off, we'd like you to remember that this is the Peng Challenge Thread, not your local boozer where every vulgarity, expletive, and prejudicial slur are met by howls of laughter from halfwits who are only 15 minutes and 3 drinks away from spending the night in Detox. We have standards here, whether you can follow the concept or not, and if you ignore or trample them, you will not only be told to Go Away, you will Go Away, both from here, and hopefully the Forum in general. And a word from our sponsor: [ 07-27-2001: Message edited by: Geier ]

"I hate it when they ain't bin shaved." Aliens: "What the #*¤ are we gonna do now man! #*¤ing game over man!" "How do I get out of this chickn**** outfit?" "When she heard aliens she signed up cause she thought they meant illegal aliens." He also died ca 2 minutes into Terminator and almost possibly maybe died in One False Move. I used to force my friends to go and see all films he was in too. No wonder I don't have any left. I am also glad that we've managed to stay on topic so far. The timing was too good to be a fluke. I nominate Bill Paxton as our new patron saint. Every home should have one.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: Well, he did not die in Wierd Science. Should have though.

Well he more than made up for that in Near Dark. That was one dead vampire.

(I've always wanted to say that.) Anyone calling the 12th SS a bunch of sissies is OK in my book. Besides, he is obviously smarter than Mace. On the other hand, so are the coffee stains on my keyboard. But I do believe it will serve the bastard right and also shut him up. A cause as worthwhile as anything.

Anything flown by a Jasta 5 pilot (Mai preferably, Konnecke or Rumey are alright) or 2. A Pfalz DIIIa or DXII or 3. A Spad VII or XIII And since they are coming to take you away ha ha, I might go for anything newly created by the 'orrible Germanboy should you be able to comply instead. I've got enough of takers on Into the East already and frankly Lasse you aren't worthy of watching that scenario, even less to play it. Run off and may your pilot do a roll before you put on the safety belt.

Its no wonder he vanished really.

Well he certainly was losing in our game. He had his entire force (apart from an immob Sherm far far away behind a hill) inside a fire sack with no armor left and running out of arty. Maybe he thought shandorf would be too disappointed with him? Who knows? Who cares? mensch don't answer that last one OK?

File on it's way tonight. Sure, I'll play Into the East against you but only after me and menschy boy have finished. In fact, I'll play Into the East against any takers, I just need to finish it first. [ 07-26-2001: Message edited by: Geier ]

 15.
quote:
Originally posted by mensch: PeterNZ: The nob I think has given up on CM thus our game that is on hold. cuz the NOB is not returning his file to me for Two and a HALF months now.. lorak I formaly declare this one a draw since he was loosing, knew it and ditched the game!! this is the first copp out I have experienced in my CM playing career.

I see you and raise. I'm formally declaring my game against the cop-out sheepshagger a win and so should you. I don't mind people putting games on hold, I still have my Ethan game on hold since what, March? I do mind when people even can't be bothered to tell me they aren't going to reply. I've sent two emails to Peter asking for some kind of explanation but nope, he can't be bothered. Was it three weeks ago he popped up and said that he'd send files to those he felt like within a week? Peter, if you're reading this and don't like it, too bad.
quote:
Guyer: wow, amazing.. I think this is the only real intensive game I've had all year.. cuddos to Germanboy wonderfuly done.

You haven't seen the last turn. I have. Veni vidi panzerschreck should be on your official regalia. Your right flanking force has one more turn to live, except for the two shermies who are dead already. Speed is a good thing when attempting to flank. Standing still and picking your nose isn't. Your arty is dropping where I used to be, sucks to have those slow large calibre thingies. Your ht assault never got around to the assaulting part. My right hand flanking force (the one you saw) is still alive and well and not where you think they are. Man, can you tell I'm loving this game? I couldn't agree more on the scenario design, it's "Into the East" and if you don't play it as pbem double blind you are doing yourself a disservice.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: if that is all true.....

Tom, have you been doing any ROF tests with the Hellcat? Ie, how many rounds/minute can it squeeze off stationary, Moving and Moving Fast (possibly Reversing as well)? That could be interesting, I might volunteer to test that myself otherwise. I would also add that my opinion(thass right, no hard facts as no one ever let me drive a tank) is that tanks should be allowed to fire while moving. I respect both Treebursts and Rothers opinions (in Toms other thread) but hardcoding it would mean not firing even at 20 meters. I would definately agree that hitting something while moving (esp sideways) at "normal" tank engagement ranges (400 m and longer?) would be whatever is in the game now, ie, I have never seen it done but I suppose it might happen. The rof is something I've never really thought about for moving tanks.

[ 07-24-2001: Message edited by: David Aitken ]

Oh you clever person. I was about to point out your mistake but you beat me to it. I demand that you change back to the wrong number and that #159 shall hereafter be known as Durutti. Feels like the right thing to do. I also propose that everyone here sends him copies of their numbered turns from all their games. Additionally I want all of you to know that I'm not responsible for my actions right now as I'm working on a mod. It feels important.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by jshandorf: Nice to see the CM sycophants are still hard are work.

Thank you, we're fine. How is WW2Online coming along for you? I heard you were enchanted by it. A game that could do with a few "sycophants" I expect. Have fun! c3k: I didn't know that accidents with the auto-loader in the T-72 were common. So you mean the gunner had to load and fire? That's an expensive way to make junk metal... I've never seen anything fire and hit in Fast mode yet but if any tank/td could do it I expect it was the Hellcat. I would still assume that it would slow down to fire and that there is no way they could get off 15 rounds a minute while going all out either. But I can't prove that so I'll just assume CM has it down pat.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: I already said that it's often only 'feeling' or 'frustration' what makes the game wrong, in other words, it's my opinion, not the game what's wrong. And please excuse my bad English.

No need to make apologies for not writing perfect english. Could you please correct me if I misunderstood what you write above? I believe that what you mean is that you are often frustrated by some things that happen in the game as they are not the same as the results you expected, correct? That is to me another reason why CM is so damn good, you can very rarely know the exact results until you've seen the movie.
quote:
Moving and fireing was mostly senseless in WWII - it's even today.

It wasn't then and it certainly isn't now unless our instructor (I did short compulsory service with an AT-platoon) lied to us. Tanks are really big targets and guns are really accurate weapons, especially closer than 500 meters. While hitting a stationery target isn't likely, it sure as hell isn't impossible either and I would feel like the turreted AFV's had been hamstrung if they never took the shot. You see, when given a Move order the vehicle only moves at walking speed. I'm not sure but I think that is about 4km/h. Whatever. Coming to a complete stop is a moments work from this speed. Fireing while moving is easy. Actually hitting something with the main gun is tougher and seldom happens in CM, at least for me. It can happen though and I fail to see why it should be excluded from the game. One good thing with Move order is that a turreted AFV can and will acquire the target during the Move order and when it stops it can usually pull off a good shot.
quote:
If you don't believe it, go and find a source that disproves me, and PLEASE don't bore me with lawyer bull****.

Big mistake. You want the change, you need to prove it is wrong now. I have no need whatsoever to prove anything to you since I find the game to be reasonably and acceptably modelled as it is. Had they been nailing hulldown Hetzers from 1000 meters while moving Fast you might have had a case. I don't believe you have one now. You need to prove BTS wrong, not the other way around.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Username: As for my wifes country of origion, why is that of any concern? Hope it helps and rest assured I'll do anything to make you feel comfortable Lewis.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: In fairness, I think Scipio oft times does not express himself well in English, but for his benefit, here is a good run down of the process of changing the game from a different list:

Good list, thanks. I just hope some people could realize that if they want to be taken seriously when they make demands, they need to prove that what they say is true and accurate. The burden of evidence lies with them. There are tons of people who like to play CM differently than how I play it. I enjoy it as a pbem with as historical conditions as possible (OOB's, terrain, hairstyles, you name it) and I have little interest in if they are "balanced" or not. This is not the best way to play CM. It is how I enjoy to play CM and from what I have read there are people who are only into tcp/ip with time constraints, others who enjoy looking for "optimal" QB buys and so on. This is one of the things which make this game so great and the reason why many of us are still around 20-30 months or 2-3 days after first logging in. The game is so customizable it's frankly silly, the ones who enjoy Franko's rules are happy, the ones who play without FOW and Really Big Tanks against the AI are happy. That is why demanding changes in the game parameters is a very serious thing imo. All of a sudden you want to force everyone playing the game (however they play it) to adopt to how you "feel" it should be. I mean, even if based on research according to your model above, changing the parameters needs testing and tweaking and making sure that it doesn't damage some other behaviour. That's what I don't like about these demands. But I wouldn't be that likable guy you've all learned to love and... woops, wrong life. Ahem. I offer not one, but two, solutions for the Problem With Tanks That Hit Stuff While Moving. In your pbem game, prior to setup, do one of the following: 1. Agree not to use the Move order for any AFV in the game, during the game. Make sure that you are playing with Dry conditions or that plenty of roads are available. 2. Use CM as an infantry sim. No AFVs, no problem. [ 07-24-2001: Message edited by: Geier ]
 22. I just want to let all of you know that I will be starting up a new business and am going to make gobs of cash by providing the likes of Scipio, tero and Colonel Deadmarsh with what they really want. Please see the link for my design doc. I am going to be really really rich.
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: Anyway - the 'fire when move' was not usual in WWII, and that's reason enough why it should be changed.

Are you serious? Where are your sources? Where is your sense of proportion? Why are you so desperate to change something, anything in CM? I don't claim CM to be perfect, I'm just amazed that anyone thinks that their "feel" is enough to warrant a change in it. It seems to me that what some people really want is a turn editor so they can point, click and drag their shots to hit or miss, to penetrate or not. That way you wouldn't have to deal with that useless data BTS based this game on and you could adjust your turns to suit your "feel" of how things happened in WW2. I have copyrighted this idea and am seeing some investors later this week.
