  1. A man should be also judged by his deeds. We have benefited much from his efforts in maps and mods. Says this non-esteemed citizen of Canada.
  2. Almost Kursk like in preparation. Did the delays in starting the campaign arise out of waiting for the shiny new kit? Waiting which allowed further fortifications.
  3. I hope one day a book details the evolution of drone warfare and EW of this conflict similar to RV Jones Most Secret War that gave a great history of the development of radar, radio navigation, and EW during WW2.
  4. Definitely shades of WW1. Remember having learned about the extent of tunneling and touring through one when visiting the Vimy Ridge memorial in France.
  5. Today’s Perun video is about the IDF
  6. Looks like the US is adding additional deterrence to those external parties who might want to widen the Israeli conflict with a second carrier group https://abcnews.go.com/International/exclusive-us-send-2nd-aircraft-carrier-eastern-mediterranean/story?id=103984246
  7. Four days old but still good analysis of the situation by Ian Bremmer
  8. Actually from the ICRC website: At the same time, I agree with Israel's right to eliminate HAMAS
  9. Poor choice of words on my part. I am not suggesting they deserve it. Collective punishment is wrong. It’s too bad that moderate voices on both sides were not given power resulting in a two state solution. Alas I fear that dream is farther away than ever.
  10. They also now have no supply lines and are cut off
  11. If they’ve written off the hostages, then going full siege mode and relentless pummeling from the air will considerably weaken the defenders if continued for a week plus. Things are going to get pretty grim and barbaric quickly when food and water run out shortly. Pity the civilian population-it really isn’t fair but they threw their support behind Hamas. Now the gloves are off and Biden has given carte blanche
  12. Has Hamas also prepared defences for an Israeli occupation of Gaza? Is the best approach (not for the civilians) lay siege by continuing with the cutoff of electricity, fuel, and supplies, and pummeling them from the air for a while to wear them down before beginning the ground operation?
  13. Given the level of casualties inflicted on Israel, do the hostages become less of a bargaining chip for Hamas? While I’m sure Israel wants their safe return, I imagine the government will not feel as constrained in its responses given all the other lives lost.
  14. Weekly dose of Perun, this time covering battlefield medicine
  15. Looks like he has other pressing concerns. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/department-national-defence-budget-billion-1.6981974 Unbelievable that further cuts are coming
  16. First person drones perhaps? Not that I don’t think Strykers are cool.
  17. Weekly dose of Perun. Tangentially related in that he is talking unmanned vehicles of an aerial kind
  18. Not to channel he who will not be named, but just get on with it. Doesn’t this glacially slow any day now just give the Russians more time to react and disperse blunting the advantage? I would hope they could render the same sort of initial pain that Himars o’clock provided.
  19. One thing to consider would be paved roads to supply the salients gained. While they can currently move through fields, once the mud sets in ..
  20. Would the mines also tend to get pushed to the surface during freeze thaw cycles similar to how farmers fields grow rocks?
  21. Latest Perun video Details some of the success Ukraine has had on drone front while also discussing how Russia has squandered its advantages in missiles and launch platforms by spreading its attacks over many targets, often of questionable strategic value, rather than achieving a decisive blow. He also focuses on the importance of the F16’s not so much as a wonder weapon but rather as a critical replacement for the badly attrited SU-24 Fencers that are Ukraine’s sole launch platform for its ALCMs like Storm Shadow. The F16 also opens up easy integration of other NATO weapon systems. Perun also discusses the challenges of trying to run a ground offence when you are outnumbered in the air.
  22. Perun brings his usual wit and insightful analysis to this week’s big story about the downing of Prig’s plane. Examines the impact of the loss of 3 senior members on the organization. Concludes not much impact for Ukraine and NATO. Comments on who benefits and message it sends as well as who remains standing for now: Putin, Shoigu and Gerasimov.
  23. I’m not sure how much congressional support will even exist once the primaries start since the rank and file Republicans may not want to offend the front runners and their enthusiastic supporters (I’m trying to be diplomatic), Ronald Reagan and John McCain must be spinning in their graves -God rest their souls I would have never imagined the Republican Party being the pro Russian dictatorship party. Sorry for rant
  24. Does mobilization buy Putin time however? Can he be trying to run out the clock hoping for Trump being the disruptor and pressuring Republicans to drop support for Ukraine?
