In my experience people are friendlier in China than in Russia. There were numerous occasions when strangers went out of their way to help me during my travels there. In Russia, not so much. Russia is cleaner than China in terms of litter, but it's still a problem. China's built environment is in much better condition, however - a lot of Russian buildings don't look too good either inside or outside. IIRC, parts of Mozhaisk (about 100 km from Moscow) didn't have running water when I was there in 2004.

The Iron Curtain was not something planned - what were the Western Allies supposed to do about the Soviet Union's takeover of Eastern Europe? Start a new world war right after finishing the second one?

I would imagine there are more flights to Shanghai originating in Moscow than St. Petersburg, so I would recommend flying into St. Petersburg first, then going to Moscow. Take Aeroflot. They use Boeings on their transatlantic routes and will probably be the cheapest option, unless some other airline has a sale. You'd have to get to JFK first, though. You should take a train to go between the "two capitals." When you figure in the time you spend getting from the city center to the airport, checking in, etc., you don't save much compared to the train and go through a lot more hassle, not to mention the money you have to spend on the taxi rides. Taking a night train is the best option; that way you won't waste any sightseeing time. I lived in Moscow for four years and did a little traveling around European Russia, as well as spending a few months traveling around China for that mater, so if you have any questions ask away. :-)

I think it's the latter. I am running Win XP on a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. Two days ago, I started having a problem which I have never before encountered: the screen randomly freezes about three times an hour. What's strange is that it's only the screen that freezes; the computer apparently happily carries on with what it's doing, but seemingly forgets to update the screen, almost as if it were taking a snapshot of that moment in time for me to contemplate. To free the screen from its trance, I simply have to hit the touchpad, and after a small glitchy flash, if that makes any sense, it returns to normality. When this occurs while watching Youtube, the screen and video freezes, while the audio continues on. When I move the cursor, the video catches up with the audio, perfectly in sync. During a virus scan the screen froze again, apparently stuck at 0:10:25, though the hard drive indicator showed that the HD was working. A touch of the touchpad, and it jumps to 0:21:05, as if nothing had happened. A virus scan and spyware scan revealed nothing. So far, this has only happened with windows; I haven't tried to duplicate it with any games in full screen mode. Any ideas as to what this might be?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with a 1.8 ghz AMD processor, 1 gig of ram, and a pathetic ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 3D card. According to the in-game FPS counter, I get around 12 FPS. However, it feels a lot better than that -flight and scrolling are smooth, and the only pauses are when scenery loads for the first time - I usually rotate the view around the aircraft a few times to accomplish this. During combat, The first few turns at low altitude might exhibit a 2-3 second pause as more scenery is loaded, but after that things are fine. My graphics are set at medium. According to one of the devs, if your computer is struggling at well below 30 FPS, it may affect the AI. For me, sometimes the AI is competent, and sometimes it's stupid and not aggressive. It's not as good as in Il2.

I just got Phase 2 recently, and I'm quite impressed. The graphics are good, especially in terms of ground detail, which is the best I've ever seen in a flight sim. What really stands out though is the sound - flying over the front through flak is quite an experience. Even the menu music is memorable.

I bought the Russian version of Strategic Command 2: Blitzkrieg, only to find that no manual is included on the disk. Akella's website doesn't help. I would download the demo to get a hold of the manual, but my internet connection is simply too slow for that. Could a pdf copy of the manual be sent to me, or is there a website somewhere that explains the game? Thanks

I only get the Line of Defense in the scenario list. I have downloaded the demo twice from two different locations. I also turned off anti aliasing (sp). The other scenario is present in the proper folder, but the game doesn't appear to recognize it. Any help would be appreciated.
