  1. Welcome Dr. You will find many of us here are former SL and ASL players. I trust you will find CM to your liking. Enjoy, Out here.... ------------------ When the situation is obscure....attack! CGen. Heinz Guderian
  2. I see the makings of a theater preference poll here. Anyway, IMHO this board has already shown considerable interest in CM2 largely because it will deal with the Russian Front. I am personally very interested in the Pacific as I have done considerable "hands on" battle studies there. Yet I always come back to the War in the East as it was THE titanic struggle during WWII and literally dwarfed everything else in size and scope. As an American I know most of my fellow countrymen (not necessarily wargamers) are uninformed or uninterested in that aspect of WWII likely because no Americans participated. However it is a facinating study in military history. Count me as one who is anxiously awaiting CM2 not only because of the new bells and whistles it will contain but precisely because it will address combat on the Eastern Front. 3. Mark IV, Awesome. Now that the mystery is solved I wonder what effect this will have on the near constant whining that has infected this board lately??? Out here....
  4. Thanks for the tip....on my way to Amazon. Out here... ------------------ When the situation is obscure....attack! CGen. Heinz Guderian
  5. Just as a side note to support that the real Otto Skorzeny died circa 1975....he wrote the forward to "Uniforms, Organization and History of the Waffen SS" by Roger James Bender and Hugh Page Taylor (R. James Bender Publishing 1969). The forward is signed by Skorzeny, Madrid Spain, October 1969. Thought it was interesting. Out here....
  6. John, I agree with your opinion of "Enemy at the Gates". I read it years ago and just got a used hardbound copy recently. Simply an amazing book. Beau, Another good one is "199 Days - The Battle for Stalingrad", by Hoyt. Out here...
  7. Grebeard, I too enjoy bridge scenarios. I came up with one and am in the final stages of revision. If you're interested in giving it a run I'd be happy to send it to you. My email is on my profile. Out here... ------------------ When the situation is obscure....attack! CGen. Heinz Guderian
  8. USMC active duty...still serving...18.5 years now. Currently instructor at Ft. Sill teaching Marine Artillery Scout Observers Course (FO's). Semper Fi
  9. Yes, As for reinforcements the AI does load infantry and support weapons (MGs, bazookas, etc) in HTs and then debarks them so they can hoof it to the battle. Out here... ------------------ When the situation is obscure....attack! CGen. Heinz Guderian
  10. Just finished a hypothetical scenario "Smashing the Flank". A German combined armored/infantry attack to seize a key village crossroads in American hands. I think it will be best played as Germans first but I worked on play balance for both sides. If you'd like to give it test run email me at - TkatIX@aol.com Thanks in advance Out here....
  11. Welcome aboard Steiner, Yes, get and play the demo. You will be quite pleased I'm sure. I and most of the others on this forum played the demo for a long time while waiting for CM's release. Good to have along. Out here.... ------------------ When the situation is obscure....attack! CGen. Heinz Guderian
  12. KScott, Might I suggest downloading and playing the demo. It's where we all started and well worth the time to DL it. If you've already done that ignore this and keep playing the demo. Of course if you haven't done that yet then you are in for a great gaming experience. By the way...welcome aboard. Out here.... ------------------ When the situation is obscure....attack! CGen. 13. Welcome aboard Marine. You are really going to have a great time with CM. Have a great day. (From another Marine) Semper Fi, Out here....
  14. As for the second point, the time not moving along fast enough. I think that replicates the temporary loss of comm (always the weakest link)or a weak comm link where the FO may have to resend his adjustments etc or any other event that could slow down the fire mission. It is frustrating to say the least but I find it extremely realistic and adds considerably to an already fine game. Out here...
  15. I can relate to Mace. I have gotten back into modeling over the past couple of years. Completed two of the four kits I purchased. Just finished a 1/35th Panther V A. Also like 1/35 figures and the Dragon 1/16th. Out here....
  16. I've noted this on several scenarios also. Some have the FOW as none when they come up and others have it on..is strange. Anyway, I always check it now and make sure it is set to FUll FOW "on". Out here...
  17. Kevin, I believe you are correct about the first VT against ground targets being used during the Bulge. In the PTO it was during the battle for Okinawa, April thru June 45. The nice thing about VT is that you do not have to adjust it to get an air burst like you do with Mechanical Time fuze. If you call for VT in effect you are almost guaranteed to get air bursts from the start. Out here...
  18. Wild Bill, Sounds like another good one. I'll have to have it. Out here...
  19. A lot of info on this thread...only some of it is correct. VT fuze is what they used to call "proximity" fuze. It does respond to RF as it gets closer to the ground to detonate at a predetermined height above the ground. Old fuzes 20 meters above ground and current fuzes 7 meters above ground. It can be set to detonate upon impact but that would be a terrible waste of a very expensive fuze. Delay fuze is the fuze that detonates .05 of a second after impact. That means it would be underground when it detonates if it hits dirt. (To collapse trenches etc) It would also detonate at about ground level if it were fired into a forested area. Delay allows you to avoid tree bursts. Mechanical Time fuze or Time is a "user adjustable" fuze where the FO calls in the up and down corrections and the fuze is then "dialed in" to achieve optimum height of burst above the ground. These are all fuzes not to be confused with shells. VT and Time are most often fitted to High Explosive (HE) rounds for casualty producing effects. Improved conventional munition (ICM) or more correctly Dual Purpose ICM is fitted with Mechanical Time Super Quick fuze. We still use VT, Time, Delay and of course Point Detonating (PD) fuzes. Hope that helps. Out here....
  20. I've never fired an MG-42 but have read repeatedly about the "ripping" sound and the high ROF. I DLed the sound mods from MadDog the other day and had to replace the MG-42 sound back to the original CM. The one in the mod sounds very much like that from the movie SPR...which was in fact incorrect. I'm going with the original CM MG-42 wav for accuracy and atmosphere. 21. Wild Bill, Thanks for the quick reply. I'll ask around and post there...have a great day. Out here...
  22. Wild Bill or anyone with ideas... I fired up the Fear in the Fog scenario and....No fog. I'm running an ATI Xpert 128 16MB card over 96MB RAM on a 350MHz CPU. Any ideas? I have checked the Shift-W but still no fog. I get rain and snow in other scenarios and transparent buildings. Thanks in advance. Out here....
  23. I agree with you Wild Bill, it could be done...although there would probably be some difficulties involved. However, I still believe the training benefit for the military and of course the business side for BTS would be worth looking into. PS...have been playing SON as Americans and am getting my butt handed to me...great scenario! Out here...
  24. Everyone, thanks for the feedback. I'll DL and give it a try. Out here...
