  1. You got it right, low ammo squads don't have much firepower, and don't last long in direct combat. Low ammo simulates troops digging into packs for extra clips, foraging for ammo, or using captured enemy weapons. About the only thing they are good at is serving as decoys to mislead your opponent about your actual strength. When on the attack, you might as well leave them behind, since they'll just get butchered when assaulting enemy positions.
  2. It is currently scheduled to be released March 35th.
  3. When Combat Mission is outlawed, only outlaws will have Combat Mission.
  4. Redwolf probably has it right, the AI can't handle assault boats in CMBO, so there has to be a human controlling them.
  5. Hopefully BB will allow the AI to handle them. I think the best way would be to let the scenario designer plot movement paths for them in the scenario editor. Then, when the battle starts, the boats would begin following the movement paths. Obviously this would only work if the boats had units in them right from the beginning, but it would be a lot better than nothing. Of course, I have no idea how hard this would be to code.
  6. Welcome to CM. Prepare to spend long, sleepless nights battling hordes of inf, trying to figure out a way to flank that king tiger, and making an effort at keeping your shermans alive for more than three turns. (not possible) Say goodbye to your wife/girl/kids/parents, because you won't be seeing anyone for the next couple of months.
  7. Enemy units will surrender readily when surrounded or cut off from their own troops. Also, HMG crews will often surrender when there is only one man left, immobilized. He can't run away, so his only option is to give up. Captured units are worth double the points of killed/wounded ones.
  8. BTS, think of all the wasted bandwith that will be caused from 15,000 newbies asking whether movie playback will be included in the next update. In order to ensure that there will be plenty of bandwith when we send you cash in return for CMBB, movie playback should be included from the start.
  9. [confusion] Are those mods or pics in a museum? [/confusion] Either way I can't wait to see more.
  10. Another alternative would be to only allow small caliber arty- 81mm or less. That would give infantry more of an advantage in short-75s, since they wouldn't have to deal with a combination of tanks and large caliber boom. Small caliber arty would also level the arty playing field, since Brit 3 inch mortars, US and German 81mm mortars, and US and German 75mm arty is all more or less equal when comparing blast/delay to points.
  11. If you want a good game against the AI, you should attack. The AI is much better on defense, it always uses a human wave when attacking. Try attacking with a -10 or -20% bonus- it makes things a lot more interesting. For a challenge, you should try playing with green or conscript troops against crack or elite AI troops- even defending becomes much more of a challenge, and you will probably have to use very simple, Soviet style tactics when attacking with conscripts. Still, your best bet is to play a human or a Michael Dorosh; they are much less predictable and much better at thinking things through.
  12. Does it say "front hull penetration," "side turret penetration," or something like that when your tanks are hit? A top penetration will indicate planes or a darn accurate mortar, while hits from any other direction mean guns, tanks, or infantry. You can see tracers, bombs, or rockets if they're fired from a plane. Also, you'll hear airplane engine noises whenever there's a fighter in the area. If you find yourself constantly losing tanks to unidentified tanks, you need to have the infantry lead the attack, with the tanks following. Unbutton your tanks whenever possible; a buttoned tank is nearly blind. Scout ahead with infantry, looking in every likely patch of trees for hidden zooks.
  13. CMBB willh have a new "extreme" FOW setting. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I'd guess that you won't be able to see unit experience.
  14. When setting up a battle in the scenario editor, you can load a squad and a zook into an M3A1. However, once they disembark during the game, the squad can't go back into the halftrack. This is because in early versions of CM, M3A1s were allowed to carry a full squad, so in order to make scenarios from the old version compatable with the new, M3A1 halftracks carrying a squad at the beginning of the game will be allowed to carry it until the squad is disembarked. Silvio, wheeled vehicles in version 1.1 and higher have a very high probability of bogging when off roads. They also travel slower, making jeep rushes obsolete.
  15. I have had some success with 150 inf guns, believe it or not. Very useful for blasting dug-in inf. Don't get them when playing against tommies though; those 2 inch mortars will murder you since you don't have a foxhole.
  16. IIRC the penetration is the same as a shreck. Tank man has it right, they are basically shrecks on wheels. This gives them a more stable mount, increasing both range and accuracy. They are quite effective within 300m, so you can use them as a close range antitank defense. I wouldn't recommend relying on them as an entire antitank defense due to their short range, but they are very useful for giving an isolated platoon some antitank firepower. You probably shouldn't use more than 2 of them in a QB, since they were somewhat rare by 1944, and their gaminess has been debated.
  17. Totally, 110% off topic, but what does gründen mean? Gründens is a company in Sweden that makes the best raingear in the world, which everyone wears when commercial fishing.
  18. Wow, it must be bad. The only way you could borrow my CM cd would be from my cold dead fingers. Either that or promising me a beta copy of CMBB;)
  19. I've found that the best way to make streams is to use a mix of marsh and water tiles, surrounded by scattered trees. Use fords whenever the river is more than three tiles long.
  20. Only when they're unbuttoned. Don't expect to shoot down any planes, but if you have enough of them, they can be effective in preventing strafing runs.
  21. I gotta go through another summer waiting for another version of CM? Hopefully BTS's definition of summer comes well before the end of April, when I gotta head back home.
