Problem with text on G4 dual 500 w/system 9
David Aitken replied to NASA racer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
It's your ATI drivers. You need to either upgrade or downgrade, but there are too many different releases – between ATI, Apple and game-specific drivers – to contemplate, so I can't give you any specific advice. Hang on, yes I can. Download the Radeon drivers from www.atitech.ca – they're for both the Radeon and the RAGE 128 in your G4, and they should fix the problem. David New map! -

M. Bates wrote: > I now have Illustrator 9, so I might start uploading some artwork to the board Ha, well I just bought a new keyboard, so expect to see my name soon on the cover of a string of best-selling novels. Version 9? Golly, and there's little old me still on version 7. I am but a charlatan, a pretender! I can't even draw! (fervent mutterings) Hear that...? Did you hear what he just said...? Yes, version 7... What's the world coming to... Not a real artist... Not even a real person... Two version numbers behind... Shame on his mother... -
Daimler won't use it's MG?
David Aitken replied to Jarmo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Arrgh!! Humbar? Humbur? You'll have to try harder, the best variant I've seen here so far is "Humbler". But in actuality the name would be Humber. =P The name most likely originates from the river in east central England which runs into the North Sea. Oh, and while I'm at it, the German GP car is not a Kubelwagon, made of wood and pulled by horses – it's a Kübelwagen. Wagen = car. Kübel = bucket. Kübelwagen = Bucket Car. David New map! -
I think not, and most likely because what you cite is a strategic technique rather than a tactical, CM-level technique. However, if you order a 'wide' barrage (the 'I' key rather than the 'T' key), it has what, at CM's level, is probably the result you seek. On the other hand, maybe a 'wide' barrage actually equates to a 'stonk', but I think the latter is still on a larger scale. David New map!

David Aitken replied to Knaust's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
As far as I know, it is a gauge of how far you have gone towards completing the mission objectives, from your men's point of view. Who apparently holds the victory locations, how much of the enemy you seem to have killed off, and how much of your own forces have been lost. David New map! -

Don't tell me – he was run over by an M5A1 halftrack, which, being prior to v1.1, was overcrowded with a full squad, when everyone knows that the ring mount for the .50 cal MG took up the space for two seats (or maybe Babra was sitting on the storage bins), and was thus unsafe. Moral of the story: don't leave the house without checking up on your TO&E's. David Tact and sensitivity never won any wars™ -

Keep in mind that there are two phases to go through at the beginning of the game before the action starts. First you position your forces and press "Go". Then you give them orders and press "Go" again, and that's when things start to happen. David New map!

Road Tile Tweak Request
David Aitken replied to Bullethead's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I must interject! What I regard as one of the biggest barriers to creating realistic (particularly European) towns is the inability to place row houses on slopes. If you put two buildings next to each other on a hill, one disappears. I know it would be a Coding Nightmare™ to model buildings where the ground floor is in line with the ground on one side, and ten feet underground on the other, but towns would be far more convincing given this feature. Oh, and while you're at it, can we have curving roads? And iron railings? And staircases? And archways? I'll go into Edinburgh and take pictures of some historic European architecture that'll reduce you to tears, and you'll abandon the Combat Mission series in favour of Hypothetical Mission: New York Under Siege or SimDesert™. David New map! -
Unfortunately there is no non-functional scenery in the game as yet. I'm not very impressed with the urban scenarios I've seen, so I made my own. It is possible to make a convincing town, but you've got to compromise a lot. Check out the results at my website. David New map! ------------------ 'Wake up darling.' 'What is it dear.'
