That sucks. That's why I tend to back up work in progress files at least once a day. Sometimes up to three times, depending on how 'significant' and/or time consuming the work I just did was. It also allows me to go back a few days/versions if I screw things up along the way.

Did I just discover a very old 'new' feature?
Juju replied to Juju's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Okay, yeah, So it is common knowledge, then. Only makes me feel dumber. Thanks, boys. -
I just checked in CM:BN, so this has been around for years. I just -accidentally- found out that the C&C icons have a double function! They also turn out to be click-able 'buttons' that take you directly to that particular unit's HQ! (Edit) And the panel left of it too! Is this an already widely known feature or am I just late to the party? I mean, who goes around clicking an area where there's nothing 'obvious' to click (well, me, that's who). Still, I'm happy.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. To answer some of your questions: @Bradley: Camo skins - Not for now. Check why in the third pic in post 1. @CanadaGuy: That text is hard-coded, so there's nothing I can do. Hopefully the non-yellow background helps a little. @Most of you: When can you have it? There's only very minor tweaking I want/need to do. I also need to wait for any 'bug' reports from the testers. Educated guess? Sometime before the next weekend for sure. -

Thanks guys! Glad all the effort wasn't in vain. And here's an overview of all the available options. Nothing special that wasn't in the preview, though. -

Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh Soak it in the sun and make a groovy UI pie? The Candyman can! 'Cause he mixes it with love and makes the game taste good. Candy shops's open, boys! But no touching anything just yet, okay. -

Okay, got a question for you people that actually play the game. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to a unit to get the little light next to the suppression panel to light up (if it ever does, that is)? Thanks in advance! -
Thanks! Looking forward to it.

Final one for today. First attempt at stylized portraits to go with the UI: -

Yet more tweaks, alterations and additions. Added the Maxim 7.62, along with new German MG's. The HMG versions of those now display the upper part of the lafette. And finally, the last 'ugly duckling' of the old set: a new PzF 30k. -

Okay, time for a light snack. Rank icons this time. The German ones have merely been cleaned up and updated to fit into the new UI, but the Soviet ones are new (and still need some tweaking). They may seem a bit stylized to some, but there's the overall design to consider. Although there is no SS in the base game I'm including their icons as optional files, going on the assumption (dare I say 'firm belief?') that someone will come along shortly with an SS uniform mod. -
You mean MadMatt. Explosive fellow, at times. But fun.

Hey! it's Manx! I must have missed that post. Now there's a name I haven't seen in a while. The place to go for mods in the olden days (2001), if memory serves. Boy, I remember it was a sad day when your site went down. Good to see you around again! -

Thanks! Heh, I'm way ahead of you regarding the Swastika and SS symbols. Just today I made a few variants with the Balkenkreuz and a hammer and sickle only. Not sure if I'm going to make every possible combination available, though. Cos, like, I'm not Mord, you know. As for them being illegal in some countries; to me (and probably most of us) they're just symbols. They're part of history. They don't scare me. They will always be displayed on preview pictures, but I'll never force them down players' throat. Anything with these symbols on it was and always will be purely optional. -

Some are made using regular photographs. But for most I use photographs of painted miniatures, as they tend to have nice exaggerated lines and contrast. This helps preserve detail after I shrink them down. Obviously there's more to it than simply shrinking down an image. After that it's tweaking the hell out of contrast, saturation and selective lightening and darkening of individual pixels. Sometimes I add (like maps) or remove (like glasses or beards) elements. I might flip only the head on some. Or, in one case, switch out a weapon for another one. Or alter arm positions. I can easily spend 30 to 45 minutes on a single one. And that doesn't even include the time I spent searching for what I need. Sad thing is, for every one you see I probably made another one that didn't make the cut. -

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if that text is a hard-coded overlay, like the text on menu buttons and such. If that's the case there's nothing I can do about it. I do hope it's going to be something on the graphic itself. As it is now I think it's a little too in-your-face. -

Poor guys. Nothing to do but hit F5 all the time. Okay, a small update, then. A little weapon-slot preview. Managed to squeeze out a little more detail here and there, and there's new stuff too. First row, bottom: that's Rambler's actual Mosin sniper rifle! Second row, top: the ROKS 3, which, as somebody already noted, looks like a rifle. Third row: new graphics for the MP40, FG42 (not in the game, I noticed), MP44, G43, Kar98K, rifle grenade and the FW41 flamethrower. Odd little thing. Not sure which of all the Fausts are going to make it into RT. Here's hoping RT is released soon! -

I'm a glass half full type of guy, so not having the game yet is not all bad. Gives me time to experiment and work out ideas. I'm already getting a lot of work done (which I haven't previewed yet, and won't until release). This probably shaves off precious weeks of development time after the game's release. So this time you won't need to wait two months for the first release! Here. Updated HQ icons. Added three more. Urrah! -

Heh, I like the idea, and I've actually already tried something along those lines a year or so ago. To make a long story short: not with my skills and not without a serious redesign of not only the graphics, but also the general button- and panel placement. Never thought about that. Could be overkill, but I'll give it some thought nonetheless, thanks. -

Another little work-in-progress preview. All the background colors are yet to be decided upon, but here's a good idea of most of the HQ options I plan to do. The bottom two will probably become the default versions. The rest will be offered as optional files. Notice that I decided to include some SS icons (I will probably also include optional SS rank icons), as I just know (well, I at least expect) someone will come along with an SS uniform mod shortly after the game's release. Best to have these things in place for just such an occasion, right? -

The latest C&C icons variant: On top; version 3. Below, version 4. Only the left two columns have been changed, and it's only a minor difference, I know, but I think size-wise version 4 has a better 'flow.' Not as far as some of you would like me to go, but this is as far as I'm willing to blow up the 'voice' icons. -

I'll let these sink in for a bit while I work on other stuff. Plenty to do. Question: can anyone tell me what German Branches we can expect to see in the game. Heer, obviously, but will there be SS and Luftwaffe units as well? Can't seem to find any info on that. Thanks in advance. -

Okay next version. On top, let's call it version 2. On the bottom; version 3, a variant inspired by poesel71's suggestions. At this point I can't say which one I prefer myself. opinions? -

Yeah, you're right. I tried to do something text-like. Thing is, I hardly have any pixels to work with. Even an exclamation mark doesn't work. I'll see about that arrow. Maybe I could blend it into the background a bit. Or something. Zooming in on the mouth; no. But a closer view, maybe just the head, I'll consider that. Thanks. @ Wodin: There. Still nation specific, but a choice nonetheless. As with the last pic, they're so fuzzy because the pic is blown up to 200%. If I can come up with something I might even do a 'neutral' version. @ CanadaGuy: There will be no text only version. But as usual I will definitely offer optional sets with text overlay.
