  1. The only reason I can think of is that you might be dead before getting to use the tungsten round becuase the first shots may have hit but not penetrated. Jason
  2. Watching the entire movie was more than just on 'The List', it was at one time a promised feature (like TCP/IP)! I can only assume the programming challenges were so daunting that it was shoved aside to make room for the possible and not just the hoped for. I would PAY to have this feature added in. I think it would be a great selling point for an expansion. Jason
  3. So? Do what every other software company does when they have a great customer demand. Hire more people Hire a smart business man Make lots o cash. Hire more people. hmmm. I wonder who all those people listed in the credits of the manual are. Even BETTER than hired help as many of the folks in there were unpaid. Hire a smart business person. Hmmm. I guess Steve is an idiot. He should: 1. Hire say five more C++ programmers to do engine work. 2. Hire two 3D DirectX or Glide Programmers for the eye candy. It's true that this game is not about eye candy, but think of the sales the game will make when the rich Starcraft and Quake III crowd starts throwing their money at BTS. Seven programmers at 50K per year. I'm SURE Charles has that kind of money lying around. 3. Hire one person to man this forum and keep in touch with what the CM community wants. I guess all that time Steve spent reading forum messages into the wee hours of the morning for the past two years was an illusion. I guess all those features added or changed because of forum and beta tester input was a mirage. Hmmm. I guess the special thanks in the Credits of the manual was for all the times we washed Steve's Weasel and not for our input. What do you think? Wow. Before you came along I was lost in Plato's proverbial cave. I feel so enlightened now. Give me more of your wisdom. Please. Jason
  4. How about if every old-timer answers ONE question that they hate seeing over and over again. Email the question and answer to me or Doug Beman (Doug is working on a FAQ of sorts) and maybe we can get something worked up. Make your answers as long as you want and include links to good discussions on the forum. Making a complete FAQ with links is a REAL PAIN IN THE ASS, so if all the old-timers pitch in a FAQ might actually appear. TRUST ME, Steve and Charles would greatly appreciate a good FAQ and together it should not be too difficult. Jason guachi@bayou.com Doug's email address is: Douglas_Beman@shi.com
  5. Onikage, do you have Excel? Do you want my unit database? It's FREE! It only has vehicles and infantry in it so far, but it has pictures and a slick interface. It has all the information you might want to tide you over unitl you get your copy (you did order, didn't you? ) Jason guachi@bayou.com
  6. I was thinking more realistically, and not entertaining notions of things that BTS has said won't be put in until CM2 (like new tiles). Perhaps, though, an expansion ISN'T necessary. CM1 has sold so well that BTS doesn't seem to NEED the money that would be generated by an expansion pack to fund CM2. I know as a consumer I would rather have a T-34/76 than a Crusader AA. An additional point BTS might consider is what kind of 'legs' CM1 has. How long can CM1 remain entertaining before fans start clamoring for CM2? (Even more than they are now ) Jason
  7. Andreas, the time Charles would need to spend on an expansion depends on what is IN the expansion. If you read Charles's post CM wrap-up at ZD-net he mentioned how long the textures took to make. Charles doesn't make the textures, that is the artists job. he also doesn't make scenarios. So assuming that an expansion had new vehicles and new scenarios, much of the work would be offloaded on to other people (like KwazyDog for the textures). In addition, Steve could be doing historical research right now for all the vehicle and TO&E data while Charles works on stuff for CM1 still. Jason
  8. One word: capybaras. THEY control all the rodents in the world. BOW DOWN to your true master.
  9. While some people TALK about hamsters, I've chained mine to my desk and put them to work! I've managed to add pictures to my unit database. It now has a COOL interface, nifty colors, preformatted for printing, tons of info and PICTURES! So, get your hamsters off their lazy asses and have them email me for the unit database (only available in Excel format) Jason's trained hamster guachi@bayou.com
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Wilhammer: After all, if you consider "Let there Be light" to be mythology, then why does the "Big Bang" sound so much like it? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> They only sound alike to the ignorant. Jason
  11. Being a programmer myself, I would NEVER say I could get anything programmed in three hours. Can you imagine the amount of TESTING this would need? If you REALLY think you could do this in only three hours, I wonder at the quality of your programming. Jason
  12. And since there is a toggle for morale state, you can get both number of men (roughly) and morale state for your infantry without ever having to click on them. Jason
  13. This isn't nearly as exciting as exposing a potential plagiarist or a typical heated CM discussion. I have updated my WAY COOL database. Cosmetic changes included toning down some colors that were too bright and adding a sheet especially for printing. Infantry units were also added to the already included vehicles. It is still a work in progress so some things are still a bit rough. e-mail me if you want the latest copy. guachi@bayou.com Jason
  14. This may techinically qualify as 'reverse engineering', which is forbidden by the user liscense. But who really cares. I say go for it if you find doing that kind of thing interesting. Jason
  15. Peter S, That was HILARIOUS. And to think I used to like Dukes of Hazzard when I was a kid. Jason
  16. a user's profile can be accessed by the little question mark in the header of every post. Jason
  17. I know Fionn says that the sIG wasn't an artillery piece, but I disagree just like I disagreed the first time this came up many months ago. All the information I have indicates that both the 150mm and 75mm iG were both used as artillery (as well as direct fire guns). They were both used as battalion level artillery separate from divisional. Both could be elevated to 70+ degrees and the 75mm iG even had a unique breech block to allow easy loading while the barrel was elevated at high angles. If onboard mortars can use HQs for sighting, why can't these? Jason
  18. Colin, it was more like April. I do have SOME information all done up. I sent it off to Jason of CMHQ/Canada for HTML formatting about two-three weeks ago. Some of the info is now out of date, unfortunately, but it doesn't really matter as none of it is up on the web anyway. I have REAMS of info that needs to be formatted but it is BORING work and I'd rather play CM or work on my unit database (which is way cool). Doug Beman is also working on a FAQ. As soon as he gets his new computer I hope to collaborate with him. Doug has been around longer than I have so I have no doubt he knows his stuff. Texas Toast, most of your questions are in the 'mini-FAQ' I sent off to Jason. If you want to become uber-knowledgeable about CM and the CM forum, start at thread 000001 and go from there. I know I should have had this thing done 2-3 months ago... Jason
  19. Jeff, my spreadsheet likely does just what you are attempting to do (although not with gun penetration info). The function you want is 'VLOOKUP', which is quite a powerful command. My unit database uses a zillion of these as well as a bunch of IF statements. I'm sending it on over to you. I would be one of those 'Excel Bastards' who knows more abut Excel than he probably should. Some comments about my unit database from people who have used it: This is freaking impressive!! I can tell already that it is going to be a very handy tool to have around. This is absolutely brilliant! it will be a very handy accessory for CM! I like it! Very nice job. Bloody amazing! It must have taken hours! Ok, I have not done any work since receiving this, and am considering exactly how to escape without my boss noticing... Awesome work!!!! And this was before I put some improvements in. Thanks, guys! Jason Yes, I'm blatantly tooting my own horn here, but what the heck...
  20. I've seen it, I've seen it!!! Course, I made it... And, yes, I think it is REALLY COOL. Took a HUGE amount of time to get the interface down and working well but it was worth it. It has a point-and-click interface so easy my Grandma could figure it out. Shoving this back up because I've tweaked a few things and fixed some bugs. Jason
  21. guachi@bayou.com You can access my e-mail from my profile, but to save you a 'click'... Jason
  22. The address is in my profile. guachi@bayou.com Jason
  23. standard ammunition allotment. Most Allied arty will have more ammunition available (of course, the scenario creator could jsut change that anyway) Jason
  24. Jeff, I assume you are using the info I sent you on availability and cost by experience? I'd hate to think you actually spent the time to get that info yourself. Jason
