  3. Jochen P, I see from your profile that your interest is War. Is this purely academic or have you a practical slant to this interest? ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
  4. I've dld and applied numerous pathces and mods. The MG42 no longer sounds like a 'burp'. Anyone else noticed this? I'm not sure which mod pack makes the erroneous (sp?) update. However the correct .wav files are 440, 441, 442, 445 and 446, just copy them from the original CD. ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II

  8. Hi Lewis. I've done post doctoral work in digital image processing- what do you want to know? ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
  9. Does anyone agree with me in that the bocage tile would be more aesthetically pleasing if it was something other than a neatly cut and trimmed hedge? (Minor detail I know but...) I also think it would be a useful feature to allow 'Bocage' to be a selectable option when auto generating a map for a Quick Battle. What do you think BTS? Thanks
  10. Make a random battle and send me your email to mikekh123@yahoo.com Please include key parameters such as Year, point total (make it below 2000) battle type (assault, meeting etc) Thx ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
  11. An old friend of mine, now dead, served in Gds Armd Div in Normandy and he told of a Norman hamlet that his unit passed through. As they occupied the hamlet they swept it for Germans and found none, but quite soon took 2-3 men killed through sniping. They again swept the houses for jerries and again found none. However the sniping continued and another 2 men wwere killed. So they shot half a dozen of the villagers- the sniping stopped. There is no record of this in the regimental history, no one was put on trial and no one was brought to account for it. Was this man a murderer? Was he an ordinary man in extraordinary circumstances? Bothe sides committed 'war crimes' but it's so easy to sit in judgement 60 years after the event safe and comfortable at home. As for surrendering and taking prisoners, well, sometimes you just don't take prisoners. Believe me, you don't. ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II [This message has been edited by KiloIndiaAlpha (edited 07-26-2000).]
  12. Ok, wrong phrase, it's not a bug. IMOH an error. Tactically this would not happen and really does not make much sense. The mortar should move at the same speed as the rest of the plt if they have a sneak order. Comments pls. ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
  13. Sorry if this has been discussed... British inf plt with a 2 inch mortar, if you give the plt a sneak order(I think it's sneak, I'll check again) the squads and HQ move ok but the mortar moves off in front quickly and .. well its not correct is it?
  14. English is actually a broad marriage between Germanic type languages, French and Latin all mixed togeether over the centuries. The Germanic and the Latinate languages, in particular, run in parallel and can be seen in everyday use. Words that are multi-syllabic are generally of Latin descent and the sharper, single syllable words, are of Germanic origin. These run in parallel and thus there are often two words with the same meaning, one Germanic and one Latinate. For example residence and house, one latin one germanic. There are many others and it is this duality that makes english one of the most colourful languages around. ( And it does not have the added complexity of Feminine, Maculine and Neuter so common in other European languages) ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
  15. Yes the files could be prefixed with a code and then all reside in the same location. All the files on my PC could be made to live in one directory. But what's the point?
  16. Sorry if this has been asked for before... Could the next CM patch enable multiple dirtectories for scenarios and allow the directory to be selected from within the "Load Scenario Screen". The utility of this is fairly clear I think. ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II

  19. The opening statges of WW1 would be interesting along with the later period with stormtroops and the development of 'mobile' tactics. ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II

  21. Excellent! Thanks Andy. (Do you have the book?) I'd totally forgot about the first scenario. ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
  22. A book of this title was publised in the UK in the early to mid 70's. The author was Charles Grant and the book dealt with WW2 figure gaming in a very 70's style. Two scenarios were described in the book, one 'Action at Twin Farms' dealt with the ambush of a plt of Russians in captured Hanomags; great stuff and I remember the terrain and orbats fairly well. The other scenario entitled "A Recconaisance in Force" was a larger battle and I don't remember the orbats etc at all. I really would like to do these as CM scenarios, if only to re-live and animate my teenage battles. So, finally getting to the point, does anyone have the book and if so could they let me know the correct orbats and terrain layouts. Thanks ------------------ Only the enemy in front, every other bugger behind. - unofficial motto of the British Infantry Reconnaissance Corps, W.W.II
