Major,The KiowaGP version that is used in the game does it stands for the reconnaissanceversion? This version has a radar that can look over treetops and can spot targets for assault helo's.(correct me if I'm wrong) But if I hide them behind some trees I can't look over them ,you either has to go up with risk of being shot or get down and then you don't see a thing. If this function is put into the game than it would add a lot extra survivability for helo's on our virtual battlefield. The same goes for the FOunits they are equiped with laser /targetdevices It would be nice if a FO-unit targets a certain opfor unit for an Apache. The helicopter can fire it's missiles from a covered position and move out of harms way. ------------------ h.s.
  2. I think Archangel is right. It had to be the Wurfkorper Spreng. This rocket knew two versions a high explosive round and an incendiary round. It appeared in 1944 and was an improvement over the original Nebelwerfer munitions. It was a 30cm round and it could be fired by the nebelwerfer or racks that could be hung over a sdkfz251 apc.Anyway it had a greater range (4,5km) but a limited shrapnel effect because its main effort was blast. ------------------ h.s.
  3. this message is for S. Bakker I looked it up and found out you can buy the whole range at amazon.com. The publisher by the way is Motorbuch Verlag in Stuttgart and spielberger is just the writer.
  4. No sorry I don't have an url I don't even know if they have a webpage.I couldn"t find it anyway. Your name sounds Dutch if you are living in Holland than you can see it just send me an email an we can arrange that. ------------------ h.s.
  5. I have a nice books on Tigertanks and in it was a small section about the Ferdinand. The vehicle itself was never to be produced. The undercarriage was build by Porsche for the Tiger I tank because Porsche never thought he would loose the battle for a contract with Henschell.I think the main reasons for that idea were the facts that he was a personal friend of Hitler and the fact that his design was technological much better than Henschel's.And since materials were scarce in 43 the Germans just added a hull on this chassis with a gun on it and so the Ferdinand was born. And as you all might know later in the war the same thing happened again with the Kingtiger. There were two types one of them had a Porsche turret. By the way this book is one of a great series that handles about all military vehicles the Germans fielded in the war.It is published by a German firm called Walter J.Spielberger. A must for all of you who wants to know all about a specific vehicle.
  6. This is very hard to achieve I think. Read the book about the 3rd SS division(soldiers of destruction) In 1942 they defended an area that existed largely of swamps. They held out for 6 months and when they were finally rescued 60% of the division was killed. All the original combat teams were almost destroyed and their ranks were filled up with clerks, doctors, mechanics, cooks and so on. Most of the remaining men were hungry, sick and starving but they refused to surrender I don't think that a division made up largely out of conscripts could do that. So incorporating such a feature in this game looks impossible to me.
  7. The eastern front was in comparison with the western front ideal for pincerattacks. The highly mobile German units used the large open spaces very well. In most cases Russian units could be surrounded and destroyed.Another fact was that Western Europe has a lot of cities and villages that can cause difficulties for mobile warfare.Especially in the first months of the Russian campain many Soviet divisions were destroyed in that manner,In some cases entire armies were defeated.
  8. Most of these vehicles were destroyed by infantryteams armed with mines and grenades Since they lacked a machinegun soldiers sneaked up on them and simply trown a grenade over the hull. that's all
  9. I noticed that some of my M1's were destroyed in a 122mm mrls salvo. While on the other hand ligth armored opfor units survived direct hits from my 155mm batteries. I also noticed that 12.5mm machineguns can knock out armoured vehicles like bmp and btr's. Are'nt that things that are impossible in real life or am I mistaking? ------------------ h.s.

    opfor atgm's

When I choose the improved atgm warhead option for opfor what is meant with that option?are that existing ones like at-10? The soviets have developed a new atgm that is called something as Chrysantemum by nato and it is to be regarded as a third generationmissile. It is supposed to be better than everything nato can field rigthnow because it is fired with supersonic speed and it is an allweather /day-nigth missile with a fire and forgetpossibility. ------------------ h.s.
  11. I want to know if the game features an option to choose what type of weapon you can use to kill a certain type of unit. i.e. an anti-tankmissile for a tank or machinegun to kill a motorcycle. This morning when I was playing one of my helo,s destroyed a motorcycle with an expensive hellfire missile. Or IFV's using their 25mm to destroy infantryunits at close range instead of machineguns. I was told in the army not to engage infantry with my 25 mm canon closer than 2km.Only if they were dug in or in bunkers we were to use are canons. Can anyone tell me ?
  12. I don't think it really matters their's no A.I.-opponent in some two-player scenarios. In most cases the red army uses it's manuals for most actions.Individual units have to stick to the overall battleplan and are mostly not allowed to operate on a individual base. So you can give orders to all the red units and go in the defensive with the blue units.
  13. I have another question regarding artillery. In the game you can only fire HE rounds with the 120mm mortar. But I believe very capable icm munitions exist for heavy mortars,i.e. Stryx and others. Why are they not in use with TacOps?

    Tac Ops

When I played the game I lost several Apache helicopters after zsu-23 fire. The helo's first attacked the t-80 units and then turned to the aaa crew's.These AAA units than had time enough to destroy my helo's. Normally Attack helo's first spot the surrounding environment for AAA units and take them out,and than they have time to kill the enemy armour. In the Jane's game of longbow this is stressed as very important. Because it means survivability for the helo. Am I right or am I just mistaking? The game itself is very good I spend many hours playing the demo. Keep up the good work. ------------------ h.s.
