Fellowship of the Newbie Continued

Oh, here are my Wiltz and OLP AARs (with pics at the Web pages). I thought Wiltz really favoured the Germans, which I played. I employed the basic Blitzkrieg - my armour rammed through his left while my infantry kept the choke point open. The terrain seriously favoured the attacker. To quote from my AAR: "With the meagre Yank force, the American commander had to cover both (western and eastern) routes of advance, and even if the forces were balanced, the terrain dictated that he couldn't cover it all. Forces on the left couldn't cover forces on the right and vice versa because of all the hills and trees. Since I could concentrate my AFVs as well as probe with infantry, I could attack in strength at a weak point. He just didn't have enough to prevent a breakthrough." Blecch. I hated Sword Point, as Allies. First off, the write-up that no Germans had moved into town overnight. They may have been on the point, but that was OK. On turn one, I moved my airborne into a row of building, only to have them slaughtered: I posted my full Sword Point AAR in the last thread, at http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=024818;p=11 I spent the rest of the scenario with very limited infantry. getting across the bridge was a snap, as I smoked the point nice and good before crossing. It's just that with a Panther guarding each side of the crossroads I had to cross, my tanks were bottled up and I could not move into town. That was, I think, the only battle I lost, 57-43. I had won the other battle with a 54-32 minor victory, but I lost points for not garrisoning my rear flag, which my opponent never came close to. That one should have been a 68-32 tactical victory. -

.50 cal vs Tiger I tracks = immoblization?

The deflection of bullets off the road and into the bottom of a tank is a myth. The bullets strike the ground and the same angle they strike the bottom of the tank. In order for them to penetrate, they have to: 1) fail to penetrate concrete/asphalt; 2) retain sufficient kinetic energy; 3) penetrate the lower armor. So, you tell me how a bullet that won't penetrate concrete somehow gains the energy to pentrate steel.... -

Flaming - The battlefield is Blitzkrieg era plus. Matildas, A15s, and Daimler ACs are in short supply, so it's normally either an A13 Cruiser or Vickers MG tanklet for armour in the BEF. The French have the Panhard AC, R-35, S-35, B1 bis, and lend-lease Stuarts. The Germans get the 232, Pz II, Pz 38(t), Pz III Ausf F and H, and the Pz IV Ausf D, plus one MG-armed halftrack. They also get the 88, but thank God nobody uses it properly, or in batteries. I play Brit almost exclusively The Matilda rules the battlefield early, until the Pz III H shows up. That panzer is functionally impenetrable to the 2pdr from the front. It's a great game, even if the satchel charges are overmodeled.... [ November 27, 2003, 08:43 PM: Message edited by: Webs ] -

I actually found OLP to be tougher than Wiltz. I won OLP as the Canadians 64-36, but the score doesn't reflect the battle. I basically just didn't bother taking the flag on the hill after I took the town. The Germans had 17 men left on the map, all cowering by that flag. I basically just let them be. I only encountered Germans starting at turn 8. No German shot at my forces from turn 22 to the end. In Wiltz, the Yanks surrendered to me on turn 21. -
Seriously. http://davidtitus.free.fr/lsd.mpg This is hilarious. Looks like 1950s/1960s LSD testing on Brit infantry. "And the efficiency of the rocket launcher team was also very impaired." <cue image of wandering aim> LOL "And a prisoners' escort had to have the way pointed out to him, although it was in plain site 700 yards away over open country."

Hehe - for me, Wiltz was short and sweet and One Last Push was the long, drawn-out one. -

There's no duty on computer equipment, but you will have to pay GST and possibly a GST collection fee on top of that (at least by mail, you do). -

Will BTS do a CM Fall of France?
Webs replied to HarryInk's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
You wouldn't have to worry about bazookas or Panzerschreks or PIATs or anything like that in the Battle of France. There are only three real forces in the era: tanks, the 88, and aircraft. Everything else is just a target. (There are some effective light AT guns, but that's pushing it....)
