  1. IMO, crews are foremost, soliders; just currently assigned to operate a vehicle or heavy weapon. If they have any sense, they ought to fight back
  2. The game Lokesa is referring to was with me...I surrendered, is why the game is over. #@!m FOW Anyways...I too,had the occasional problem of the game 'not starting' while we were playing. Never locked up during a game, always when trying to load the PBEM file. I would get the window to load the file from, choose the file, and as Lokesa nothing would happen, but my mouse would work. Hitting ESC would get me back to the desktop, but the game was no longer active. After repeated attmepts, 2 to 12 per problem, the game would fire up and play just fine. And my system is Intel PII 350 w/ 128 Ram, 2D Creative Blaster Banshee w/ 16 meg; so my hardware is different than Lokesa, but I had the same problems. Didn't seem to start happening til about turn 12 or so(???? You remember Lokesa???) The last 5 turns or so, it always happened (tho, most of the time, it only took a second try to get it to work). I was playing two other PBEM games at the same time as with Lokesa (both in the first couple of turns) and didn't have a problem with firing up the game, even when Lokesa's file wouldn't fire up. 3. If it were possible for the scenerio designer to password protect each side and only release the password to the side playing, this might reduce the problem. I agree with Harold I too, look forward to playing 'blind'. Got in a hurry with Chance Encounter and didn't think about trying this til it was too late. At least I'll get my chances in a month or two (or three)
  4. If you purchase a product, (based on information/advertising/models/etc you are aware of), and it turns out not to be what you expected : You should scream you lungs out. IMHO
  5. Spy_Eye... You (seem to me) to be talking about two different things here... 1. Business (making money) In that regard, Atomic is doing what it needs/has to. Nothing wrong with that... 2. Gameplay...As BTS stated, if they would just advertise their games 'realisticly', (i.e. RTS based on WWII), there would be much less contraversy on wargamer sites. As someone else mentioned, remaining silent on any issure you may have with a game or otherwise, is a person's choice, but hopefully they're a 'silent minority' "Drawing lines..." : If you are referring to the developer drawing the line at some point in the games development and saying "this is the way the game is shipping", so be it...I was once told I would never succeed at a job as a programmer because I was never satisfied with my code, and a professional programmer 'had' to 'draw a line at some point' If your line-drawing referes to opinions..."Not in this life" is it going to happen. Especially on this board
  6. Politely disagree That would just give Moon and especially Fionn more time to "gloat in (our) general direction"
  7. My wish is to receive the game Then get CM2 final and shipped, then CM3 (I want to fight in North Africa)
  8. PST time...will be online off and on all 4 days. LSanglen@att.net
  9. Had a Stug get bogged for a number of turns, then status changed to immobilized. No shots were fired at it during this time period. It was set on 'move fast' when it bogged, and as long as it remained bogged, the move options were unavailable. Which brings up a question on how much (if any), the move status has on bogging and/or throwing a track...
  10. Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16 meg. I too, am trying to get people interested who don't have 3D cards or the couple who do, only have 4 or 8 meg...
  11. Played both sides and fought hard against the AI to win them...A strange coincidence happened in both...My 1st tank to engage the AI's 1st tank, resulted in mutual elimination both times
  12. ICQ is free 'chat' software... You can find it at www.icq.com It allows you to 'see' when other people (who you have added to your 'contact list' are online at the same time as you are. Useing ICQ's file transfer is easy.
  13. Solution : Label the scenerios/campaigns as 'Historical' or 'Not...Just for Fun'
  14. Been a few questions about fires...Even tho 'Chance Encounter' is 'damp', a sherman firing on an Inf squad set the woods on fire. It did not spread, but it continued to burn.
  15. No. Been quite a bit of disscussion on this topic in other threads. If I remember correctly, it has something to do with timescale, and knowledge average soliders would not have possesed.
  16. If I understand correctly, the 'final' Demo won't be released til the game goes gold. There may be a bit of a chance for something to be added to the Beta-demo.
  17. You have to pretty well surround them to get them to surrender...I got 6 surrenders the last time I played.
  18. Target Fixation (not)...My (mistaken) impression was that if units (squads and tanks) were in command radius of a Commander, then they had the same info of the battlefield as other units (what one unit knew, all units knew). Yep Fionn, carry-overs from some of those 'other' games Understanding that this is not the case, helps to be able to play the game better. Steve, 'unlearning' ain't such an easy thing to do, even when you're trying Thanks for the patience.
  19. RE : #7 That's what I was trying to get across in my question last night on the live-chat. The 'gamey' side of using target fixation. I understand 'if' armor isn't aware of any armor present, then it should go for whatever the AI 'suggests'. My 'misunderstanding' (using the scenerio with the Hellcats) is : I was Germans; had my Tiger and 1 Stug 'tucked' in beside the houses on the dirt road so the Hellcats couldn't 'see' them when they entered the game (of course, my tanks couldn't see the Hellcats either), but, other of my units could see the Hellcats. My opponent ran the Hellcats into town on the main road...My tanks were firing HE at some of the houses containing Inf...my opponent saw this and put his lead Hellcat on 'hunt' and moved on me the next turn...of course my 2 tanks didn't have AP loaded, so he wasted both of them. Wherein lies my problem; should my tanks have been aware of the Hellcats, (due to other of my units having a visual on them), and been ready with AP in their main guns (while still nailing the Inf with MGs) in prepreation for dealing with the Hellcats? If not; should I have attempted to use the 'ambush' marker on the area I knew the Hellcats 'had' to enter, and if so, would my tanks have used the 'ambush' command or would they have continued to use their main guns loaded with HE on the Inf? I wouldn't consider this a 'gamey' tactic as long as no units are aware of an 'immediate' armor threat to their armor. (Hopefully, my wording is a bit better this time )
  20. Still got the 'real' demo coming sometime
  21. Any CC3 beta testers here? deja-vu The unit information screen was orignally not going to be included in CC3. Deal is, most of us felt it 'had' to be there because the CC games were realtime and you needed the info provided (myself included). I don't get that feeling with Combat Mission. Steve has repeatedly made remarks about 'unlearning'...which I kept in mind, but still found myself doing and expecting things from other games. The worst: click and move on as fast as I can This game is not real-time (which is very nice). I started playing this beta-demo without any 'concious' preconceptions and found that I very much liked the uncertainies of what 'precisely' was happening. For me, it makes the game much more 'instense'. Having the basic information about ammo, morale, and the 'colored' lines indicating what the unit is firing at (and what is firing at the unit)seems ok to me... Don't know about the rest of you, but it took me and my opponent at least 6hrs to complete a game yesterday...The more I played the more I learned on how to deal with the game. I admit that when I first started the beta-demo, a lot of things about the game was 'bewildering', but I don't find that to be the case now.
  22. Yeah, you can save demo games...Can't remember if I told it or it defaulted to the scenerio folder...I did name the file to what I wanted...If you can remember what you called the save game file, do a Windows 'search' for it...
  23. These are only suggestions : Check what is running in the background (Ctrl-Alt-Del 'once')(don't be online; it adds other things). Suggest you dump 'Findfast' if you find it there. Try 'stopping' one thing at a time (you can always restart if it doesn't work). Another thing, are both of you running the same anti-virus program (and maybe it needed to be 'turned off' when you did the install? Weird tho, you having problems with CM and not with other games...
