yep - no formal difference

What is being requested here is a legal restriction - presumably backed by sanctions - on who I can give my own money to, and/or the removal of the ability to do so anonymously (or at least the ability to choose not to tell the whole world I'm doing it), and/or the ability to give my own money to 'him' but not 'her'.
There are already legal restrictions on who you can give money to - try donating to al Queda!!

AFAIK it is entirely up to the people concerned how and when they use it, and who else really cares?
-
I don't know - it is? If so, how?

It wasnt' a joke muggins!! My primary wargaming interest is ancient - Romans, Greeeks, etc - so for me the primary meaning of "Picts" has been those ancient Scots types for at least the last 30 years!
-
Dang....I thought the thread was something to do w8ith the ancient inhabitants of Scotland!

So nice and simple compared to today's electronics!!

IIRC the mass sacking of the Iraqi Police and Army was admitted as a serious mistake a couple of years ago.

Antifreeze is just alcohol....yuo kow the rest!

The car was an adulterer in Iranor Saudi Arabia??

AFAIK food and trucks are often the 2 most emphasised aspects of lend lease - the numbers and quality of weapons are often disparaged.

Back to the point in hand tho...was she cute, and did she put out once you agreed with her??

Wine Valley Spies I imagine....or perhaps Vinyl Weasel Spy - whateve I'm sure I'll have men knocking at my door shortly to ask me how I found out....

His logic trail is a refutation of your points.
And he noted that you didn't acknowledge it let alone address it.

Weren't these a bunch of Iraqi's, armed, but doing nothing in particular except hanging out?
and there was no combat going on anywhere nearby, and the Iraqi's never fired a shot at anyone before, during or after the action.
So the basis of them being hostile was only that they were carrying arms...in an open space....in an area where no combat was going on.
That's pretty tenuous in a country where almost everyone does - even the locals who are on your side. Sure an RPG is a significant weapon....but "good" Iraqi's carry RPG's too.
In 2007 the US military said that the engagement was in support of US troops who were under attack - but this was not true as I mentioned above - no Iraqi's were attacking anyone.
I wonder who the crew thought the cameraman was "getting ready to fire" at - since there were no US forces nearby to be fired at!
If the ROE allowed the US to shoot anyone with a gun, without warning, then I'm amazed this is the only such incident......perhaps it isn't?
Iraqi police classification of it as a "random attack" seems quite accurate.

Soldiers in a firefight do not always have that luxury.
this wasn't exactly a firefight!

KR 40% might be a big number, but IMO it is unimportant - 9 million or 13 million - one is over twice the population of my country, the other is over 3 times - both are freakin' huge numbers of dead people!
At that scale, IMO, the difference doesn't change any argument about sacrifice, scale of destruction or anything else.......hence the difference changes nothing.

teee hee hee...
Nah - built a vinyard up around it - there were no vines in the Waihopai valley when I lived in Blenheim & drove down to have a look at it about 15 years ago - the Marlborough region was a major wine-producing area back then tho, and vines were going anywhere they could get them in.....

I've got no idea for hte Sov-Polish war - wouldn't surprise me if a few Poles who fought had been to New Zealand at some stage in their lives, or maybe a few Polish immigrants of 2nd gen NZ-ers went back to fight tho - AFAIK they did that from all over the world.
-
Well not quite.......but it's a one-two bit of propaganda - "you did it first", and "See Stalin was only after revenge - understandable, if regretable..."
the Poles have a different take on it here - pointing out that epidemics rife 1919-1922 were the major cause, and also that many "missing" Soviet soldiers probably defected, contrasting that with the bullet to the head the Poles got in 1940!

Does anyone out there have any info on how much large inflatable radomes cost, of this sort of size:
JonS will recognise the image
The 2 domes are NZ's contribution to Echelon at Waihopai - one was sliced by some peaceniks who are maybe going to be sued by the Govt for $1.1 million damages & I was wondering what the going price for these things is.
-
9 million is fine then teh wiki page says 8.8 million.
the highest I've ever seen was, IIRC, a figure given in the old Panzer-blitz game of 12.5 million each for military and civilian - but even that was fudged by saying the total was 20-25 million.
so I don't know what exagerated numbers she thinks the CIA was peddling - 12.5 million isn't really a major error if 9 million is "correct".

Was he actualy "embedded" with the front line units?
Lots of journalists before him had been close enough to the front line to be wounded - eg Charles Bean from Australia stayed in Gallipoli for most of that campaign.
There is some justice ..........
