  1. These instructions are from Excel 97 on a PC 1. Select TOOLS menu 2. Select DATA ANALYSIS 3. Data Analysis Dialog will pop up 4. Select the HISTOGRAM 5. A HISTOGRAM Menu will pop-up, fill in pertinent information and hit OK.
  2. It probably depends on your budget, but here is my experience from a PC perspective: ATI cards will not show fog (on a PC). I have now went to a 3D Prophet II Mx which does not have any limitations and have not had any problems with it.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: MERC, the problem with this is that there the players can still sit back and wait for the last turn.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> IMO, if a player sits back and waits for the end of the game, then he has just sacrificed the "initiative", and if your playing a meeting engagement - its just became a assualt (for him, without the extra forces) because you should have time to set up a defense of those VL. I personally think that some are focusing to much on VL at times. Generally in a QB, a VL location is usually not located at key terrain area. What really matters is killing the enemy. If you destroy the enemy, he can't take your VL. Bottomline is if you don't like the way someone plays the game, then don't play them again. Personally, I see it more as sour grapes because usually those who are subjected to what some term as "gamey" have made a mistake that have allowed it be effective.
  4. A solution to this is to make sure when setting up the QB, choose a turn number that is much more than will ever be needed.
  5. Steve what is your trick then? I have a 32 mb ATI Rage Fury Pro and can't see fog? I have been looking for a software switch but haven't found one yet?
  6. Short Answer: No. Long Answer: Its a feature that has been asked for but BTS has said is to hard to do at this time. If you do a search you will find the full BTS response to this feature.
  7. Its not gamey. It called scouting. The battle between scouts is called the counter-recon battle. If I'm not mistaken, the U.S. Army has/is transitioning their scouts from Bradleys to Hummers. I believe the idea is you want your scouts scouting not fighting.
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Fox: The Computer AI still cheats like a basta%d <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Your wrong. If you check the following thread http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/004565.html Charles says definitevly The AI does NOT cheat.
  9. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sirocco: The bottom line is the visual map just doesn't have sufficient data to position tanks hull down consistently, again, in my experience, and believe me, I have tried... That being the case the AI needs to handle the "fine tuning" of hull down moves. The only question that remains, it seems to me, is how to implement that.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I agree with your "visual cues" argument. Thats why we have seen the emergence of different terrain mods to try and help - unfortanetly they have been a mixed success. I do wonder if the AI is programed to try and to get into a hull down position?
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sirocco: But if it was real life the crew would handle hull down themselves - their commander wouldn't personally supervise each and every hull down move, not in the midst of combat, anyway.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> If this is your argument then where do you stop? What about your "God's" eye view of the world -- real life commander didn't have that(at least in WWII)? What about your ability to incluence every squad, every vehicle every 60 seconds in the game? The best option that I have put together in my own mind to deal with the hull down situation is to add a command called HULL DOWN LOS. This would be a LOS command that would allow you to check hull down LOS from say position A on the map to any other position on the map. It could even change color if it was hull down. Here are the difficulties that I would see: 1. You would have to make some assumption of what height above the ground your conducting your LOS check over. 2. I think it would take away from the FOW and would have the ability to be used for other things. You could also have a INFANTRY LOS command where you could do the similiar thing -- just at the infantry level. The other option is do try and do something with the ground textures that would help in judging the terrain.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Jagdpanther: Mainly, is there going to be an Eastern Front version of the game? How about North Africa? What about Fall Gelb? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, its called CM2. If you use there search engine you can find discussions on their plan for CM2 to CM5 <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> Secondly, are there going to be any more addons for this version? Granted its very complete, but is this the final version? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> There are custom graphic mods at CM HQ (http://combathq.thegamers.net). There are also several sites that are housing custom made scenario and operations. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> And finally, whats the best user created scenario available for download right now? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hard to say, there are so many good ones. CMHQ scenario depot does allow users to rate them, so that will give you one indication. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> If you can point me to a previous thread or just plain answer my questions I would be much obliged. Jagdpanther<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The search function is a very usefull function that will probably get you more indepth information. [This message has been edited by MERC (edited 08-08-2000).]
  12. Could somebody post it to their web sight for download - or e-mail it to me.

  14. Well, least you know that the AI is not cheating.
  15. I don't know what to tell you. I tried setting up a quick battle just the way you said and I couldn't duplicate it. I'm using almost all the different mods also so I don't think that is the problem. If you tell me exactly your setup is, I will try and duplicate here to see if I can help you determine whether it is a bug or some machine specific anomaly.
  16. If you can colored setup zone (boundaries) then you are in the setup phase. You will find all your men/vehicles placed on the map edge within the setup boundary. It now up to you move those units whereever you want. This is done by clicking on each unit. You will be given the option of moving your units, checking LOS, rotating facing, etc. Page 31 of the manual describes each possible command.
  17. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dittohead: Don't forget if you slect armor force not combined arms you can use all your points on armor. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes - but how is that a problem. When your setting up a QB, you and your oppenent should agree on the parameters of the battle. If you want a more historical setup you choose COMBINED ARMS, if you want to fight a all armour battle you chose ARMOR, if you want to fight all infantry you choose either INFANTRY or MECH INFANTRY -- the choices are all there based on your and your oppenents preference.
  18. Seems to me that people are forgetting that in a QB there are limits on how many points you can spend in each category (infantry, support vehicles, Tanks, artillery and fortification). To spend all your points, your gonna have to purchase a somewhat balanced force. It just impossible to spend all your point on Jumbo's or HT's. For example take a QB of 2000 pts, meeting engagement the American side would only be able to buy 2 jumbo's and 1 Easy-Eight. The Germans side would only be able to buy 11 HT's.
  19. Use the link Deadline gave. That one will take you to the Rugged Defense Site. Here is a direct link to the CM section: http://home.wanadoo.nl/edwin.vos/cm/cm.htm
  20. I was just going to asked the same question. I was looking at the top 10 on the ladder and there were some records like: 1-12, 0-1, 3-2 and 1-3. Now if you look at the bottom 10-15 on the ladder you see records like 5-1, 6-2, 4-1, 2-0. Then you have positions 31 to 266 filled up by people who have not played a ladder game. I emailed the caretaker with my questions/concerns (Bill Carey) and he never responded. I have now went and started playing on the Rugged Defense Ladder because it works and the staff there is responsive. They will even help match opponents.
  21. You can go thru all the BMP rather quickly if you have a program like say THUMBS PLUS (evaluation version at www.thumbs.com) or PICTURE IT PLUS (comes with microsoft plus) or some other graphic program that produces thumbnails.
  22. Whats stopping you from editing yourself? Just go to BMP directory and find which one it is and change it.
  23. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by KiwiJoe: Is the reason the Jerries don't seem to have these rounds because its late in the war and they have no/little access to the stuff?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> From what I have read, later in the war Germany industry was facing shortages of raw material to extract the tungsten. It was this shortage that cause Germany to look at other alternatives - the Shape Charge or commonly known today as the Heat round.
  24. Because it very dense. The key to effective kinetic energy rounds is: 1. Very dense and heavy 2. Be capable of being fired at very high velocity. 3. Hardness (so the penetrator or tungsten round doesn't shatter on impact) The physics is: K = 0.5*M*V*V K = kinetic energy M = mass V = velocity (V*V is velocity squarded)
