  1. "Company Commander" by Charles B. MacDonald Saw it at Crown the other day, if that helps
  2. Hey Slapshot: Here's my understanding of mortar targeting in the current version of CM (and not necessarily the demo): On board mortars can use direct fire against targets in LOS. Mortars on the defenders side in an attack or assault scenario that begin the game on the map and do not move may target any location on the map regardless of LOS. This reflects a defender sighting in the areas of fire prior to the attack. Mortars in command radius of a HQ unit can fire at areas within that HQ's LOS. This is "the hide behind the hill with the HQ on top of the hill (or beyond the woods or behind the building)" mode that we all love. With regard to artillery, fire is quicker and more accurate if within an artillery spotter's LOS. Out of LOS it can take longer to arrive and cover a wider area, he said redundantly. Anybody have anything to add? Hope you like the game. [This message has been edited by L4Pilot (edited 11-29-2000).]
  3. Ooops, sorry! I thought the title for the thread was "Most active bladder."
  4. A comment from 03/29/2000, just after the promo reel for CM came out: "One thing that came to mind while watching the movie (repeatedly, obsessively) was "how would this look with the color filtered out?" I.e. a black and white version of the movie - really start to blur the line between CGI and reality. Maybe there's a filter that can be applied to .avi's that could do this. We could end up not just with movies, but "newsreels" and "documentaries" L4Pilot (have to go unlimber my 4x5 Speed Graphic)" And I still think it's a neat idea! 5. Santa Monica, here. Pvt. Ryan - We better not let the SM city council hear about CM - or they'll pass an ordinance against it!!! [This message has been edited by L4Pilot (edited 10-22-2000).]
  6. Or in another fashion, one of Murphy's Law's of Combat: When both sides are sure they're about to lose...they're both right.
  7. Would love to see soldiers engaged in sneaking in that half bent over skirmish position, possibly raising their heads occaisionally to look around. Would be a good graphical representation to help distinguish between sneaking and moving. Have looked at a lot of units, asking my self why are they going so slowly, til it dawns on me.
  8. Emos: A minor sidelight - the script read, and Slim Pickens said, "Dallas" as the place to have a good time. But that city acquired a different connotation between filming and release in 1963 so they dubbed in Vegas. Thought you'd like to know.
  9. Love to see the one's mentioned so far. How about US 155 SP arty? (M12?)Just right for bustin' through the Westwall. I think Steve emailed me that they were considering it for the Gold release, but evidently it didn't make it due to time constraints. And, I hate to say it, some of the French tanks in German colors for the Normandy scenarios. Well, they're gonna need 'em for CM4 anyway, so....
  10. Anybody up for being Germans? I just looked at the allied side. Email me. L4Pilot
  11. Maybe your guys saw the number of "kill markers" painted on the side of the Sherman's turret.
  12. How about tile by tile FOW - in other words if you haven't seen a tile, or don't have a unit with LOS to that tile, you don't know what it is. Might be "greyed" out on the map. Roads and villages might show up in "schematic" form to represent info available on maps.
  13. Schugger, Which is the heroical deed - "tanks firing at a very close target can knock themselves out" or "telling your wife"?
  14. How about map cut and paste where you could outline a section of map in the scenario design section, cut it or copy it, save it as a seperate map or paste it into another map. And extra buildings and tiles...
  15. Now how's that for a gallant opponent. mch, you're certainly right about the area fire. It's just I saw MG diasppear and cross appear on floor below at the same time. Then the cross disappeared and your MG reappeared simultaneously. In my fevered mind I thought the game was putting the cross for the suddenly out of sight MG on the first floor by mistake and then removing when the MG popped up again. Although I may test this in a dummy game just to make sure, it's obvious that it's not my tank that's confused....just me.
  16. Was shooting at a MG in the 2nd floor of a church with my Sherman mounted popgun. (mch -clank, clank, clank... - hehehe) Every time the naughty MG would take cover (I assume he was taking cover - it was right after a 75 exploded next to him), his "last seen" marker would drop to the ground floor for a few seconds. Then the MG would reappear on the second floor instantly and resume firing. But it looks like my Shermie had a short attention span and forgot all about him in the second or two he was hiding and had to completely reaquire the target - and would no longer use the main gun. Pretty easy way to ditch an angry AFV. Now that I think about it, I think the tank had LOS to the 2nd floor but LOS to the same spot on the first floor was blocked. Tank was Veteran and buttoned. Bug? Undocumented feature? Just the way its supposed to be?
  17. I think another interesting aspect of this question is how your answer in this thread relates to your preferences in CMBO. Mine is Ami's in CMBO and Russians in CM2. Nothing too surprising there. But are there those that prefer allies in CMBO that would prefer Axis in CMBO? Or Axis players in CMBO that will lean toward Russians in CM2?
  18. If not more extreme FOW re: HQ and spotters, then perhaps more random? My experience has been by the time I can ID HQ or spotters, the damage has been done. And it's always been at close range - sometimes "too" close. The idea of IDing spotters and leaders at some distance isn't impossible - Ami's didn't put their bars on the back of their helmets as a fashion statement. And the glint of sunlight of binoculars sometimes gave the arty boys away. BTW, what kind of game were you playing when you took out all the spotters? AI or human opponent? Maybe AI is too agressive in where it puts spotters, i.e. too far forward. Maybe that's what needs to be addressed rather than the chance of ID. So I don't feel that there's a major error right now in spotting these kinds of units. But let me lose a few in the next battle and I'm sure I'll change my opinion... Well, you asked for feedback. Feedback on my feedback?
  19. Perhaps as an intermediate step between the current situation of no movie files in non-PBEM games and the capability of (hopefully) full, continuous movies in the glorious, distant future, there could be an option to create and save one minute movie files for one player and hot-seat games and this is not a run-on sentence.
  20. Message Received - happy to wait. I'm a little "wrapped up" in the CM RPG right now, myself Tailwheler
  21. The site looks fantastic!!!!! Now that I find out who I'm up against, I seem to remember a war bond drive back in the States that needs attention. STRIKE THAT! After I read the description of myself, I think I'll just go find some slackers to slap, instead. ON TO BERLIN!!!!
  22. Actually, it's only 98% of the lawyers that give the other 2% a bad name...
  23. Actually, I very much appreciate VB's post and would like to invite any other Axis Commanders and Subcommander to post their assignments, force dispositions, operational orders and map grid locations. And if that's too much trouble you can just email me directly. L4Pilot [This message has been edited by L4Pilot (edited 08-05-2000).]
  24. Allied side booked up! We've got what we need, for the moment. Additional inquires are welcome for a alternate/backup position. Thank you everybody On to Berlin!
