  1. After my experience with Theatre of War, I'm taking the Game Spot review to heart. I'll pass on this one.
  2. I've seen a lot of Western developers who tanked at making PC games. The WWII plane sim they developed was rated extemely high. ToW has a ways to go yet, but I wouldn't condemn Russian development collectively. Let's focus on this game. There are still problems. Maybe some patches will help. John
  3. Yes, very unwieldy. John
  4. The slope of the T34/76 was sufficient to disrupt the Munroe effect. That means the shaped charge may not have time to form properly because of the angle. It did happen, but I don't know if the game is attempting to simulate that phenomenon, or whether it's just a bug. John
  5. I guess Codemasters dropped it for a reason. I'm having similar issues. I played through the training missions and attempted to knock out the AT gun crew with the sniper team. The crew had an uncanny ability to track the snipers crawling through cover. I'm not giving up yet. John
  6. Still no urban combat I presume? John
  7. So, what are the characteristics of the new sharpshooter? I've ordered a "cone of fire" and seen these guys ignore perfect targets of opportunity. Is there a range within which they will not fire? Is there a percentage of visability under which a fire command is ignored? Sharpshooters are virtually impossible to spot now unless you are right on top of them. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just different. I'm just trying to determine the sharpshooters attributes.
  8. I have noticed that the MG42 jams frequently. I thought this was a very reliable weapon. It takes a veteran 6 man crew a long time to clear the weapon. Does anyone have historical data on this?
  9. I am also a fan of DoD, but there is a special place on my hard-drive for anything CM.
  10. I got mine today,(Virginia)...yahoo!!!! [ September 23, 2002, 03:06 PM: Message edited by: John Kelly ]
  11. It's still too new for me to make an intelligent assessment. It seems to be much improved. John
  12. I have played Capitalistdoginchina's scenario, and I must say, it is one of the most enjoyable I've played in a long time. The timing of his reinforcent pool, the design of the map and the research involved all manage to come together in splendid fashion to create a superb example of why we love CM. Cheers to this gentleman and his hard work. It's senarios like this that keep CM alive on so many hard drives.
  13. With all these captured German tanks, why can't Spielberg and the history channel depict actual vehicles instead of the pale immatations seen in "Saving Private Ryan" and "Battle Stations." I must say, "Band of Brothers" appears to have found an actual Jagdpanther.
  14. GameSpot reports that CM2 will be released in the fourth quarter of this year (we're getting close). If that's the case, will we see a demo soon?
  15. I like the concept of a scenario or operation beginning with charges already planted. The code would have to be written in such a fashion that the charges would explode on a designated turn (to be determined by the designer). Then, as a designer selects terrain features such as houses, trenches, rubble etc., exploding bridges would also be selected and placed along with the detonation turn. Something to ponder, nicht wahr?
  16. Lorrin, I plan to use this book when I play WWII miniatures (20mm). I also role-play and believe the book will come in handy there as well. As for the implications of the book with CM, it is doubtful the average player (self included) will consult it.
  17. As you can tell by my member number, I've been at this a while. Occasionally, I will glance at the Peng threads, but it has always looked like nonsense to me. I have noticed how quickly the moderators of this forum move to "lock" irrelevant posts. Why, then, is this allowed to continue and occupy so much space? Not a sermon, just a thought!
  18. Lorrin, er, uh, Rexford. As you know, I have been following this book for some time. I am interested in using it with my miniature wargame rules for 20mm. I want that book mate. Cheers, John a.k.a.Ben
  19. Hey Fishu, Aren't you the guy who did the cool WWII mods for Rogue Spear and Urban Ops? We must lobby BTS to abandon the wav file sharing on CM2. Then you will be able to join the ranks of talented mod makers, whom I depend on to enhance my enjoyment of this great game. Welcome to Combat Mission Fishu. John
  20. The Pershing is not impervious to the 75mm/L70 round of the Panther. As a matter of fact, the Jumbo has thicker armor. The 90mm gun and wide tracks make it a much better all around AFV and the Allies finally had their "heavy tank." John
  21. I like the Jumbo with tungsten. Without the tank killing round, its 76mm gun is very ordinary. The thick hide, however, will repel most 75mm/L48 hits, while the 75mm/L70 and up will penetrate most of the time. All things considered, its survivability is the best of the American tanks. John
  22. I would obviously like to see better soldier graphics, but the one thing that would truly enhance CM2 for me is augmented wav files. Rather than represent a generic submachine gun, for example, create a sound for each individual weapon. Then, even if one cannot see the enemy position, it will still be possible to determine what you are facing by listening. Currently, the MG42 and MP44 are quite distinctive' so,let's add the rest of them. John
  23. "98 confirmed kills" Carlos was awesome. John
  24. You questioned the morale of German units after undergoing 90 minutes of artillery shelling. Currently, players can create scenarios whereby units begin the game panicked etc. Although the effects don't last long, it is possible to simulate the situation you described. I am excited about the prospect of CM2...bring it on! John
  25. When creating an operation, one may determine the chance of recovering and repairing any vehicle. The default setting limits the success of such an endeavor to such an extent that damage to a German tank generally ensures its doom. John
