1. You're not in the Hotkey screen by any chance? When you bring up the hotkey screen it's just for reference. You have to click on the hotkey screen to make it go away and THEN use Alt S to save. Other than that I don't know what the problem could be. Joe [This message has been edited by Joe Shaw (edited 06-28-2000).]
 2.
quote:
I am glad you all enjoyed Schijndel. Question? Did the presence of the AA gun help at all?

Oh yeah, he blew the snot out of some infantry hiding in one of the buildings ... OH ... you mean against aircraft? Hell no, he tracked them once but never fired a round. Of course that might be affected by lots of things, like my incompetent placement. But I really did enjoy the scenario. Well done. Joe
 3. Sten is correct, but something that fouled me up at first was that I wasn't plotting the moves AT THE SAME TIME. So as Sten said, embark the troops, plot the jeep move and at the same time plot the infantry move. Joe
 4. I don't know how you're doing it, but on my PC I just hit Alt S and it brings up a naming screen. And I've gone back and played from that point so I guess it must work. Joe
 5. C'mon, this guy has to be a GOOD troll doesn't he You know, a bad troll comes in and says, "Hey Dodz, Combrat Mishun SUX!" and sits back. I think this is Steve and he's feeling a need for a group hug or something. Seriously, I can only add to what has been said. I've been playing organized wargames since 1969 and computer wargames since the Atari 800. This is the best wargame I've seen ... hands down, period. Joe
 6. WHAT is the problem here? Obviously there were a whole ****load of Panzer crew hiding under the bridge with a manhole in the deck. The AC cleverly faked an incapaciting hit, stopped on top of the manhole, then opened the bottom escape hatch ... never mind. Man that is funny Joe
 7. "Throwing a virgin into the volcano." Is that what you kids call it these days, hmmm. Joe
 8.
quote:
This part of S:TW reminded me of a 'family boardgame' called 'Shogun' (re-released as 'Samurai Swords') by MB Games.

Frankly I thought it was a computer copy of the board game, which, as you say was more of a family game. I too thought the game would be great, and was looking forward to using it to stave off the pangs of CM deprivation. After the first few tactical battles (which were pretty impressive BTW) I tried the campaign game and rather quickly found myself bored with it all. For the price it's not bad at all, and the tactical battles can be VERY impressive with their scope and grandeur. But overall I wasn't that impressed. Joe
 9. Teach, I played it as the Germans and had a blast. I also got lucky on the first few turns ... SPOILER = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = I decided to move up the German left flank and pretty much destroyed the infantry and HTs over there with very minimal loss. My SP got knocked out immediately by that damned AT gun Then, of course, there were the airstrikes ... sheesh! Luckily I got away from the first two with no losses, the third time they came through the aircraft nailed one of my Panthers with MG fire through the deck. I finally infiltrated enough infantry to clear out the last pesky US infantry dug in by the bridge, as well as cleaning that AT gun's clock. Then ... it was time to duel with a Sherman. Ended up being a knife fight at very close range. Both turrets swinging to bear on the other. The Sherman got in the first round, but the Panther hit harder and killed him. I'm still in the game, and it looks like more armor coming on. A very good scenario, had a blast, thanks. Joe
 10. Opps, my bad Manta, didn't notice the And certainly only one vote. We don't NEED to pad it with the support we have here Joe
 11. Frankly Manta (I know, don't call you Frankly), I don't see anything wrong with it and if it helps CM sales it seems like a good thing to do. As long as we record one vote for one user it's absolutely legitmate. It also gets the CM name out in front of the buying public even more. Just my opinion ... and worth every penny you're paying for it.
 12. I think it's the tremendous job you've done modelling the AI ... especially the 57 year old Brooklyn hausfrau, she's just vicious. I can't wait to get my copy (pre-ordered in May 1976, CC charged in June of that year, order mailed ... did it ever get mailed?) anyway, it doesn't matter because the demo alone provides hours ... well okay minutes of happy diversion. BTW BTS IIRC & IMHO BMJ2 will cover the early years right? From 1957 to 1965? Joe
 13. I think you're handling it very well Kump ... Don't scare him now boys, just edge the net in closer ...Really, you're doing just fine ... Hold up the Panther poster again, make sure he's looking at that Why anyone would be in a state after what you've gone through ... OK Miss, take off the raincoat now, a little hip action please ... Would you like to hold this Priority Mail package Kump? Hummmm? NOW BOYS, JUMP HIM NOW! Joe
 14. Well ... you can't say fairer than that! But I know what you mean, I ran a Quick Battle the other night that had me wrung out like a sponge. Very nice of you to re-post on this issue Dale ... now get out there and sell more copies so we can continue to get CM's There's nothing worse (or better I guess) than a recent convert. Praise be brethren, he has been saved. Joe
 15. So Barbararossa says:
quote:
Looking foward to CM2 "Beyond Barbarossa". Just a suggestion as a name.

I protest, how come he gets his name used? I demand that CM2 be called ... {wait for it} ... Beyond Joe! Joe
 16.
quote:
You say they didn’t, I say they did. Prove they weren’t spamming boards. I see nobody else with anything to gain.

By golly, you're right, I've re-examined my logic based upon your penetrating analysis and have determined that Steve and Charles WERE indeed the culprits of ALL the spamming done on the CC board. How could I have been so stupid? Please allow me to shoot myself to atone for my error? Look pal, I'm willing to take their word for it, you're obviously not. We could go on all day trading "You prove it" "NO, you prove it" posts but it just isn't worth it. This was moderately amusing for a while but not anymore. I'm glad that you have so much free time that you can afford to spend it posting here (I guess Junior High must be over where you live.) Good day to you, enjoy CC. Joe
 17.
quote:
You mean spamming competitor’s boards? No, I do not think this is a success. If their product is so poor that they have to do it I think that speaks for itself. I looked at the product, as have several companies they were pimping it too and it is not that good. Wait for some real games coming down the pike.

Speaking of "a galaxy far, far away" What the hell was that? Just FYI pal, BTS wasn't responsible AT ALL for any posts to other games boards. That was done by a VERY FEW over zealous fans who tried to spread the word and it got out of hand. Steve and Charles have repeatedly asked their fans (geeze, sounds like a rock group) NOT to indulge in such antics. Frankly, CM is so good they don't have to. Joe
 18. CDMag.com said:
quote:
The company says that they did not anticipate that demand would be so high for the game...

So I guess it would be fair to say the game did better than you expected Hot damn, well done guys. Bring on CM2. Joe
 19. I could be wrong {nah} but I don't see an issue with this. I suspect, though I don't know, that there's a lot more involved with how long it takes to crunch the numbers than just how many units are left. Joe
 20. Very good guys, thanks. Joe [This message has been edited by Joe Shaw (edited 06-24-2000).]
 21. OR ... to try to make that cryptic header a little clearer, if I download a user scenario and start a PBEM game, does my opponent have to have the same scenario resident in his program to play? Joe
 22. Demo games are not compatible with the patched full version. I THINK they are compatible with the unpatched full version.
 23. Man I don't know what to say Kump, that truly sucks. My condolences guy. Hang in there it's well worth it. Shoot me an email when you get it and we'll fire up a quick battle. Joe
 24.
quote:
round up all these copiers, stick them in a field, and see for ourselves the effect that a 105mm has on "soft targets".

Better idea, I just put together a really childish scenario with 8" arty, 240mm arty AND ... just in case anything survived ... 4 airstrikes ... Trust me, THAT'S what we want to use GAWD that's impressive. Joe
