1. Any way to force a re-download? I got my copy yesterday and after I installed and connected it started downloading the updates. My network connection puked part way through. Apparently it got far enough in that the system thinks I got everything and won't trigger a new update. I think I ended up not getting some of the art.
2. After playing the demo for a bit I decided I liked the game enough to order it. While the unlock planes thing will be a pain, I appreciate being able to play the game any time I want. It beats driving 30 miles to the hobby shop once a month or so in hopes of scaring up a match.
3. Does Campaign experience allow me to 'unlock' planes for the local game? While campaigns sound interesting I really dislike the concept of having to unlock planes to play against the AI. A lot of the fun for me in the card games is trying out the what ifs and never happened battles.
4. Well I'm glad i checked here before buying the game. The direct X thing sounds like something that will be fixed. But this part seems to be a rather unfortunate design decision. Guess I'll have to stick with playing the card game FTF.
5. I'm in. Been waiting for this moment since I first played the paper version of DIF lo these many years ago.
6. This is pretty cool. I've been hooked on DIF since I stumbled across it at Gen Con 5 or 6 years ago.
7. I'm surprised no one's said when it's ready. That was the standard answer for CMBO. (been a way for a good long bit)
8. Bought HOI installed it and played it for two days. The AI is incompetent and the documentation was terrible. It is essentially EU WW2. I uninstalled it on the third day. The AI complaints are usually met with "It's really designed for multiplayer" but what I wonder is where do you find 8 people who are willing to get together every night for a month to actually complete a game? So I guess if you liked EU/EU2 this game is worth getting otherwise save your money.
9. Turns out it isn't the download that causes problems. When I try to click the file my system freezes, even right clicking it will cause the system to freeze. Any ideas?
10. Hi, I'm trying to dl the CMBB demo but everytime it gets to 99% it locks my machine up. Any suggestions? Win98 pentiumII 450 and 384 meg of ram.
11. Failing that a complete list of new features and functionality would be sufficient PS. For future consideration it would be nice if botht the Chinese Nationalists and Communists were in any PTO game.
12. For the east front I suggest all distances be displayed in Arshin, Sahzen and Verst for the Soviet player.
13. I like the graphics, I mean we are moving around corps and armies not platoons and squads. Actually the map reminds me a lot of the 3rd Reich boardgame map. Game play is similar as well. Any plans for a PTO version?
14.
quote:
Originally posted by AD: There are lurkers... and then there are the true lurkers. The few, the proud, the ancient junior members....

I post every once in a while just to make sure my login still works. Great game, doesn't run on NT and I'm never home to play so reading here is a bitter sweet experience.
15. If I remember right, BTS did not include WP rounds because the smoke effects were not different enough to include another round type to track and that people would use the rounds ahistorically.
16. I think I registered within a couple of days of this new forum opening.
17. Hull down and its attendant benefits has very little to do with weapon trajectories. Hull down is primarally a line of sight issue. The other factor is the terrain feature that is covering the hull. For instance a perfect hull down position would expose a tank only from the bottom of the maingun to the top of the mantlet. This would give minimum exposure of the vehicle and make it both harder to spot and harder to hit(a frontal shot at a Sherman turret is a much harder target than one at the entire vehicle front). In addition to line of sight benefits, the type of terrain feature you are using is important because what you are hulldown behind should provide cover as well as concealing the hull it should be something that the enemy can't simply shoot through (hedges, sand berms, wooden fences etc.) To calculate hulldown you would have to calculate the line of sight from the muzzle of the main gun to the location you are checking. If I remember correctly CM in its current incarnation doesn't do this but instead calculates from the middle of the vehcle. ------------------ If something cannot be fixed by hitting it or by swearing at it, it wasn't worth saving anyway.
18. I went to the Big Time Software web site looking for the latest patch for Over the Reich (having just bought it) and stumbled across a link announcing Computer Squad Leader.
19. Is there a good non-ladder PBEM registry anywhere? ------------------ If something cannot be fixed by hitting it or by swearing at it, it wasn't worth saving anyway.
20. I prefer the Allies. I have over the years lost my infatuation with the German army and all their cool uniforms and equipment. Also I'm a bit of a contrarian so I like to take the side that most people don't want to play. I guess that means I'll end up playing the Italians in CM3 (or was it 4). Imagine the fun of taking an M13/40 up against an early Sherman.
