  1. Please give an indication in the briefing, if the computer should stick to scenario default setup or should be free to setup his units (for both sides). Some designers simply bump all units somewhere in the setup zone. This is fine if playing vs. a human, but if playing the AI, please note in the briefing that the AI should setup free. As you know, the AI needs all the help it can get Thx Fred [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: Fred ]</p>
  2. Gpig, in this forum thread you can see how others fared in the mini-campaign: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001131&p= But watch out for spoilers of scenario #6 in the last few postings of this thread! Fred [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: Fred ]</p>
  3. Gpig, I would like to read the AAR (as #5 was the scenario I tested nearly 20 times before I got the computer AI to attack Fred
  4. Good AAR! Well, force balance is a difficult task for a designer. There were some other players that only achieve a draw (or even lost) some engagements. Seems you are simply a very good player Maybe players that are very good should give the AI +25% OR a +1 modifier. The campaign is balanced for the 'average' gamer, like me (and during gametests even I lost some battles ) Fred
  5. <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Gpig: The enemy Sherman, not having any targets to shoot at, blunders about West of B. Then my PUMA, which has been steadily moving to the Right, spots him. He stops, trains his gun on him, and let's fly with a first shot kill at about 500m. The Sherman explodes in a nasty fireball! On to the next one!! <hr></blockquote> Good shot! I usually lose my Pumas before they are even able to turn into the right direction. A 500 m kill; must be a side shot? Fred
  6. Good AAR! Go ahead of writing them! Any trucks damaged? Fred [ 11-13-2001: Message edited by: Fred ]</p>
  7. Hi, Against all Odds is not a cm 'operation', but a so-called mini campaign. Go to: http://home.nexgo.de/tcmhq/International.html Click on 'Scenarios', then choose 'Mini-Campaigns'. There you will find it (its the one with the award) Fred [ 11-01-2001: Message edited by: Fred ]</p>
  8. Gpig, good AAR! I only got a draw when I playtested it the first time (hell, and I KNOW where the Brits were..) Fred
  9. You can play my mini-campaign "Against all Odds". 6 small scenarios designed for human (Axis) vs. AI play Fred
  10. well, in the early days there simply was no need to use 'suggestive' names like 'Tiger' or 'Panther'. After WW2 turned, Hitler was the one that ordered to use suggestive names. Guess he thought it would inspire his own troops and would create fear within the opponent... Fred
  11. as this is a game, nearly all you do is 'gamey'. If you attack a set-up enemy defense position, do not expect that his trucks are near the frontline; so why spending points on it? About crews, well, believe it or not, all crews are normal soldiers, skilled in using their weapons, skilled in infantry fighting style, not only driving a truck. And reconing with recon units is not this gamey...most of the time a recon jeep e.g. is killed this fast, that he has no idea who shot at him. The flak trucks is another thing; this is simply a bug in the game. Just consider all rules BEFORE you start a game with another player, so that no one can call 'gamey!' when he loses. And if someone really uses all loopholes in the game, well, don't play him again... Fred
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Gen-x87H: God you can tell that CM has landed into the hands of the more general populus. Gen<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Gen, Lusername is well known for his attitude to take EVERY bait and start a flame war. The ONLY reason that this guy is not banned is, from time to time, he acts like a consent being. And yes, this is the price of doing business Fred
  13. Ya welcome! Well, 1. find some site with lots of scenarios 2. click the link of the scenario you like 3. your browser starts to download 4. usually all scenarios are 'zipped', i.e. in an archive file format, so you need an 'unzipper' program...like WinZip 5. Start WinZip and unzip the file you just downloaded 6. Now, copy the unzipped file into your \CMBO\scenario folder 7. Start CMBO and play the new scenario Fred [ 07-03-2001: Message edited by: Fred ]
  14. Give it at least a +1 experience bonus (maybe +2 when the AI has to attack). And, try some of the specifically Player vs. AI created scenarios, like my Axis campaign. 'Normal' scenarios are ususally balanced for two human players. Fred [ 06-30-2001: Message edited by: Fred ]
  15. Victory flags on campaign (OP) maps, so that the AI has a hint where to go. As it is now, an operation with a certain objective (like the Arnhem bridge) is not possible vs. the AI. It simply has no idea to take and hold the bridge. Fred
  16. Another WBW masterpiece; try it as the germans...and experience hell on earth... Wild Bill, you rule... Fred
  17. As long as the french guys offer me the exact 100% US version of the game (without any localized features, translations, censored graphics, etc.), I will happily order there... Fred
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by deanco: My 2c, as a punter : I hope it's toggleable. And I really wonder if the payoff in realism terms is worth the hassle, given that the player MUST know everything that happens on the screen anyway. Otherwise it's not a game anymore, it's letting the little guys fight it out for themselves while you watch. And I'm worried, as a gamer, that the fun factor is going to suffer because of it.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> right on target Deanco. If too much "realism" kills the game as a game (and it is a wargame, not an academy simulation or rpg), and if any IRON MEN RULES or this "relative spotting" are forced on the player, well, then I will stay with CMBO. I have this eerie feeling, CM slowly drifts away from a wargame to...well, maybe some kind of a "3-D Study in Command"...not my cup of tea. Fred
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by hal9000: ... By the way, Fred, how many times did you have to test each scenario to get the timing of the reinforcements correct?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> well, it differs from scenario to scenario; around 6-15 test runs each. Fred
  20. Ales, to get 'Against all Odds', head to: http://home.germany.net/101-77027/CM/International.html It's in the 'Scenario' section. Fred
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by hal9000: Against all odds, without a doubt. The rpg style briefings are great. Hats off to the designers and the testers. The reinforcement timing was superb, complimenting the momentum of the battle perfectly<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> hey! thank you Hal! Only one designer and tester here But there was no Axis campaign, so one has to do it... Fred
  22. Steve said it again and again, CM will NEVER go real time. Never. Neither pausable nor anything else. Thank you Steve. Fred
  23. yeah, #6 is a tough one, but it is (together with #2) my favourite scenario. Hal, you won this one? What was your rating? Fred
