I would like to see the the Arab vs - Israeli conflict modeled, but given the current climate that probably won't happen. Falklands would be interesting, but probably too limited and not enough to cover.

Asia as mentioned would be great, but I've mentioned in the past with other titles and that looks like it's not ever going to happen, same with Vietnam. I saw an interview with the designer and aside from the can of worms it may open you have the issue of modeling helicopter insertion of troops-something the game engine is not designed for. Would be cool if we could see helicopters zooming in and dropping off troops and river patrol boats, but that would probably require a new game engine.

In terms of 1970-80s NATO vs Warsaw Pact I vote for Norway. Then Turkey and the Southern Front. For me its the variety it would bring-not just troops, but terrain, climate and overall feel. US Marines, Nordic forces, the Turks, Italians...

Regardless, whatever is released, I'll buy.

The new DLC for Arma3 - Prairie Fire S.O.G. - might be up your alley, especially the Mike Force mode.

  2. Corrections and adjustments are monitored by tracking current missile position using an IR emitter or beacon on the back of the flying missile, then corrections are transmitted through the site, as I understand it.

So, the emitter has to be seen, which doesn't happen through smoke.

Because there are still Boomer Luddites who'll say "I don't care what a game looks like as long as it plays well", followed by "Will it work on XP?" They have no foresight and a pathological inability to step outside of their comfort zone. You taste a meal with your eyes before it touches your tongue. We live in a time where you can have both great graphics and great game play, but if it were up to these dummies we'd still be looking at NATO symbols on a monochrome abacus, as long as it tracked how many buttons the fallschirmjäger lost in the arty barrage.

There were guys that wouldn't play FoG II because the maps used squares instead of hexagons. The squares actually allow you to maintain consistent lines, even while moving units. And instead of being able to attack and move in 6 directions, the code provides movement and attack in eight directions (utilizing the corners of the square). Objectively better in all ways. Screw that! I've been using hexagons since 1975, therefore REEEEEEEEEE! They even bitched because the models had animations! Then there was the collective pants pissing when CM dared not be everything that came before it. It irritates me, how much wargamers are their own worst enemies.

I play computer games because I don't want to look at an abstract symbol on a piece of card board, I want to see the little dudes, and tanks, or knights, or Romans or ships, whatever. I don't even mind a 2D, isometric, table top miniatures feel as long as the sprites weren't ported over from 1992. If JTS games would update their UI and graphics to about 2010 standards I'd be happy to purchase a lot of their 18th-19th Century gunpowder titles. Funnily enough they are working on a new engine and players are requesting they not change that Antediluvian tool bar abomination. Yeah, that'll help sell 10s of more games!

Do you know the fastest way to get me to put my wallet back in my pocket? Show me a square with a NATO symbol.

In the end, I guess it's a matter of taste, and there is room for all types, but that doesn't mean they should look like a pig fart. But if we didn't have developers that could see past Avalon Hill circa 1974. I probably wouldn't even be playing any wargames.

Is it odd that I would pay $50 for a working version of this with good AI and upgraded to A3R?

I personally like the narrative style for briefings.  The more proper one's often read and sound like a real order being delivered, but I like a story.   FWIW of course, I am just a silly C-DAT.   :)

This is my dream CM game, but it is unfortunately unlikely to be made in the next 5 years or so.

BFCs current model is to release one major game per year and two modules for already released games per year. There are at least two games covering the Eastern Front that are expected, which means that the earliest possible window for a CM: Fulda Gap isn't until 2019. Its very likely that other games covering WWII or possibly Korea 1950 come about first, not to mention another modern game such as Black Sea in a different environment.

So while CM: Fulda Gap may eventually happen (and I sincerely hope it does) I've accepted the fact that it is a long time coming.

Now if someone had a boatload of money to throw at BFC to develop a cold war game, that could change the equation some. But that is exceedingly unlikely, so we'll have to wait it out.

P.S. Airburst ammunition for artillery and thermals for tanks and IFVs would be in a cold war game, unless that game takes place in the 50's or 60's.

And a quick follow up.  So looking at grammar and punctuation (here again MS Word has a very handy "double blue line system) we are looking at 86 errors in total so an error rate of about 0.4% of the briefings sampled.  These were mostly Word disagreeing with coma placement but there were missing periods, missing hyphens and the dreaded double colon.  Plus a few spacing issues and the odd dropped 's' which makes for some weird noun-verb alignments.  So based on this, our spelling is not that bad but we could use some work on punctuation...and flossing, always getting in trouble for the lack of flossing.

I hate misplaced comas. Next thing you know you've got ESP and you're the main character in "The Deadzone"

Yes, "TC" does mean "Tank Commander".  It can also mean "Track Commander" when applied to any other kind of tracked vehicle; ranging from Personnel Carriers to Self-propelled Artillery pieces.

Also, in the case of wheeled fighting vehicles (as in the case of my 3 gun truck escort elements for logistics convoys in Iraq 2005-2006) it also meant Truck Commander.

    Hola guys,

I need voice actors. Please PM me if you have an interest and the equipment to make the wave files.

Bringing some CMBB countries voice .wav files over to the CMX2 world creates a gap in certain areas. The artillery commands and such as that.

I need some Spanish speakers to help make voices for a CMRT Spanish Blue Division Mod later this year!

Please PM me if you have an interest and the equipment to make the wave files.

    Thanks!

    kohlenklau

I speak Spanish, but im not a native speaker, it was my major in college, so, im sure I have a pretty heavy American (with Castillian influence) accent. I can say the words correctly anyway, and can lisp away with the best of them, lol.

    Quiero ayudar, sí es posíble.

Pm me if I can help

I admit, I'm only really familiar with Soviet FAC procedures, but the pilots would be given anchor points and directed to enter combat through specific azimuths ("251, expect to work from control point 14, combat 270-280, offset 2.5-3" - meaning aircraft 251 is being directed to head to a predetermined point 14, typically coordinated through the ATO, then is expected to enter into the battlespace from a bearing between 270 to 280 and expect the target between 2.5 and 3 km from the point).

I'm only particularly familiar with the cockpits of the F-14A/B, Mirage 2000C and AJS-37, but they all have dials (or buttons) to adjust the spacing and quantity of bombs to drop (except the Viggen which I don't think can drop in singles or pairs). This would be the purpose of a linear fire mission: the FAC directing the aircraft to drop bombs along a treeline, down a street, etc.

Honestly, the way I would rework CAS would be the following:

    • Linear missions: Pickles all ordnance along the length of the mission, or fires a burst from beginning to end with guns or rockets (which might not be able to get fully expended, for example). With guided weapons, it gives the aircraft a bearing to fly along and the option to engage enemies spotted nearby the target area.
    • Point missions: Blow up that building, would drop two bombs instead of all of them.
    • Vehicle missions: This would be the bigger change, targeting a vehicle would be the equivalent of "Your target: motorised infantry company, 10-12 targets, in battle formation, moving with a course of 80-90, speed 5-10 km/h."
      • Gameplay wise, a vehicle target would give the aircraft the ability to search for similar vehicles in the vicinity of the callout like an area strike does now. This would be exceptionally dangerous to use directly on the frontline since it gives the pilot latitude to engage similar targets nearby.

Bonus points would be the ability to tell the aircraft what ordnance to use! I know we kind of have that ability, but if it was a lot more explicit (guns/rockets/bombs/missiles, etc) rather than light/medium/heavy I think usability would be much improved!

No idea of the coding investment here, but, this sounds good to me.

    Consider therapy?

How can I play F&R maps fine in CMBS but not in CMCW? Did you even read my posts first before replying?

I agree. But the only thing that happened was they slapped a lock on the files. Just like BP1 for CMBN- something which I will probably never touch again in my life unless upgrade 5 doubles the performance...

Everyone, as stated, uses Hexed.it... It converts all the F&R maps fine. The ONLY THING that needs to be replaced are BUILDINGS! Again! Same issue as the Nijmegan map (Which I replaced every single building on... and then it WORKED IN EVERY CMx2 GAME).

I'm not asking for a converter. We have one already.

In all seriousness, there is a map editor. You could recreate the maps to so desperately want to play using that.

I never saw anything in the documentation or advertising for either CMCW or CMFR that maps would be cross compatible with earlier releases. I don't think BFC is giving you a "slap in the face".

So any thoughts from smart folks here about US 50 cal vs BMPs?  Is there a range where I start to have a chance of penetration?  Just started my first fight (They Own the Night) and realized the 1980s 50 cal ammo seems less destructive than in Black Sea (or is that my imagination?).

I'm getting partial and full penetration a from the rear and sides at about 200 meters, haven't tested further than that.

IMO @BFCElvis was too busy herding us beta testers around 1) collecting and submitting bug reports for CW, 2) collecting and submitting bug reports for FR, 3) getting us to check the FR patch prior to release (yes, I broke it for the Mac. Well, actually it was broken and I found it).

All to get out two patches absolutely as fast as possible. The beta testers herd themselves pretty well (reasonably well?) (Maybe?) (Sometimes?) but someone has to direct traffic.

Whole lotta stuff went on behind the curtain the last several days.

Gents, you are awesome! The blurry text in this game and Black Sea, put me off to the point of not wanting to play. I purchased this one, in hopes the development team might have fixed the problem, however, to no avail. You have indeed put forth the fix I needed to succeed and dive into this newest title. Heck, might even give their WWII releases another look.

    Thank you both.

All the Combat Mission games are well worth the investment. The rate of return in game hours to money spent is very high.
