Well, we were going to release an alternative set of files that had a "real" ending but if you guys would prefer to do it yourselves.... Don't worry, I will post the alternative "dog fight" demo mission with victory trigger files shortly all the same. Madmatt -

I have a Intel P4 and a Radeon 9800XT and have never gotten a freeze so I am not sure its Intel related. I was thinking perhaps driver related since all but one here are using those 77.22 drivers but 20mm is using the Catalyst ATI drivers so I don't that is it either. You see freezes in different missions? Campaigns and solo missions alike? Madmatt

No sound in demo?

This is the first I have seen of this. Have you tried updating your sound drivers? What sort of sound card do you have? If the sound is on, at what point does it crash and does it report any error message? Once sound is enabled, can you even load the demo and hear anything in the menu panels? Madmatt -
By the way, in order to install the game, you will need about 800 megs to 1 gig of free space. The installer extracts into a temp spot, runs and then deletes itself but you need the space while for it to run. The temp space is usually the same place as your My Documents folder is located. Madmatt

Let me try and answer some of these as best I can. #1 depends on the size of the battle, how many AI units there are, the terrain, graphics level, the speed of your CPU, memory, video card etc... T-72 does require a powerful system though. #2 I play in 1024x768 with good framerates and all i ever did was lower the grass draw distance and clouds. My system is over a year old. Lowering resolution may increase the speed but the best thing to do is try it and see. 3. Thats fine. Refresh rates only limit the maximum frame rate on the screen and I don't think there is anytime in T-72 that you will hit 85 frames per second. 4. Backbuffer, in short, describes the order that colors and graphics are drawn on the screen. The different options use different techniques but by and large they are equal in terms of performance. 5. DepthBuffer is related to the Z-buffer and stencil drawing. The various settings are as follows: D16 A 16-bit z-buffer bit depth. D24S8 A nonlockable format that contains 24 bits of depth (in a 24-bit floating-point format - 20E4) and 8 bits of stencil. D24X8 A 32-bit z-buffer bit depth that uses 24 bits for the depth channel. By and large the best performace, although lowest subjective graphical quality, is acheived with the D16 setting. 6. Antialiasing is a way to clean up the "jaggies" you will notice on certain models and edges. Depending on your video card this can affect performance a great deal. "None" will give you the best performance. 7. Managed Textures is basically a way for Direct X to offload a great deal of work from the video card and is best to leave enabled. 8. Enabling compressed textures may give you a slight performance increase but it can also cause slight graphic degradation. Madmatt

Magnum, Thanks for all the work you have been doing since the release! I too will be posting some hints and tricks to maximize the enjoyment of this game as I have time. One of the ones, that helped me to enjoy the game much more was removing some of those repeating and obnoxious infantry sound samples. I have a sticky post above detailing how to do this. Madmatt

No, those are for ambient sounds, like machinery, dogs barking etc... I just posted my list of sounds you can "safely" remove to elliminate those annoying outside infantry samples. Madmatt

Some people have said that they don't like some of the outside infantry sound effects. These are the samples that say stuff like: "Here they are!!!" "Oh no..." "run!" "Fight" and other random things. Personally, I find these sounds can become repetitive and annoying very quickly and a little too loud to be heard from within a running tank. As such, I have removed them totally from my copy of T-72 and you can too. These sounds are only used by infantry and troops outside the tank, this will not affect any crew sounds of your own tank. Here is a screenshot of some of the sounds you can remove safely. They are all located in \DATA\SOUNDS folder. Although this is an unofficial list, I have played the entire game without problem with these files removed but use at your own risk! Might be best to simply move them into a backup folder in case you find you want or need them back. There may be some other sounds that you can remove but I believe the list above has some of the most annoying. Madmatt [ July 12, 2005, 12:26 PM: Message edited by: Madmatt ]

Yeah, give me a couple of hours and I will have my own personal (although unofficial) suggestions on how to remove some of those more annoying infantry sound samples! it doesn't appear to affect the game at all and, to me at least, it provides a much better playing environment. Madmatt
