1. I just wanted to clarify a few points to make sure that nobody gets the wrong impression of what CM Mod Option Selector (CMMOS) is all about. Note, all of this is covered in excruciatingly gory detail in the README file that accompanies CMMOS. First, you will not have to re-download your existing Bergman/Molek/etc. Allied batch file-based mods. CMMOS was built on top of the infrastructure we created with the existing batch file system (we're still working with Fernando to architect his German vehicle mods, so there might or might not be slight changes there). The "patch" mod that Maximus refers to fixes some naming inconsistencies in some of the early batch file-based mods so that they work seamlessly with CMMOS. Many of the existing Bergman/Molek/Fernando snow-covered and whitewashed mods will be re-issued to work with CMMOS, allowing easy swapping between the two styles of winter mods (and the various alternative textures, e.g. markings, stars, aerial recognition panels, etc.). We (at least I) probably won't be re-issuing revised building mods although the rules will be included in CMMOS to allow swapping between, for instance, Gunslinger's, Magua's Normandy set, etc.) as renaming the files to match the rules is quite easy. 2.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: [QB]Extremely nice job. I myself prefer the snow on look rather than whitewashed so will be waiting for these to come out.QB]

Well, that's why I try to provide multiple "flavors" for these mods, because I know one size doesn't fit all. Gordon
3. Little steep? I guess it depends. Who's got a copy of the Czech "Blue Book". Gordon
4. SS Peiper, They should start trickling out in 3 weeks to a month (or so). There's still a fair amount of work to do (and I haven't even started on some of the vehicles that are in the whitewashed set), and I'm on a business trip and vacation during part of that time. Gordon
5. Pvt. Ryan, Actually, according to Wise in "D-Day to Berlin", "a suprisingly large number of (German) vehicles did not make use of any snow camouflage during the Ardennes offensive." Also, my (summer tri-color) Hetzer mod is based on a Hetzer that was knocked out in the Ardennes, and it also had no winter camouflage applied. Old Crow, He obviously hasn't fired his gun yet. Actuallly, it'a an interesting point. Personally, it looks more strange to me when the barrel has no snow and the rest of the tank has snow scattered all over it. Any current or ex-treadheads out there care to comment? Gordon
6. Vergeltungswaffe, I'm more of a "whitewash/winter camo" man myself, figuring that the amount of time that a vehicle would remain covered in snow (certainly on the west front, the east front is a whole different story) would be small. Pvt. Ryan, For the Allied winter vehicles I was doing 3 separate treatments; snow-covered, whitewashed, and snow-covered whitewashed. However, it seemed to be generating little additional benefit to have the snow-covered whitewashed versions, so I was planning on discontinuing them. Gordon
7. PawBroon, Watch it or I'll have to let the Germans interrogate the captured gun crew and they might reveal that you're the commander of the Pershing platoon. YECoyote, Baseless slander! You'll hear from my lawyers and no snowy German mods for you. Rupert_2, Not very soon, but I hope to have them all out by Christmas. Gordon
8. Since the announcement of the release of my hi-res set of whitewashed Fernando German vehicles generated little enthusiasm ( CMHQ) Let's see if I can shock you jadded modsluts with something else that's in the pipeline. Here's some images of the alpha-quality work panzerwerfer42 referred to in the other thread. Comments, suggestions and (constructive) criticisms are always welcome. Gordon And yes, the intention is that you'll have all of the available Fernando "summer" camo schemes and markings to choose from. [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: Gordon ]
9.
quote:
Originally posted by MikeyD: Something for you modders to think about. Winter Camouflage does not necesarily have to mean WHITE! Say you've got two Tiger mods - an early war and a late war pattern - and can't choose which one you like best. Make one of them your winter vehicle. My 2ยข

MikeyD, Not sure if you're addressing this to mod-creators or mod-users. If mod-creators, I don't get the point. If mod-users, with CM Mod Manager, the batch files and the soon to be released CM Mod Option Selector, I don't see why swapping from among multiple mods "as the mood hits you" should be an issue anymore. I'll see your 2 cents and raise you 2 bits. Gordon
10.
quote:
Originally posted by panzerwerfer42: Some of you guys might have heart attacks when you see the mods that are in beta .

Shhh! It's a good thing I didn't send the alphas (not quite beta yet) to Maximus, or images would be plastered all over this board. Gordon
11.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: Can you give us some details on this?

Michael, Well we're still in the final testing stages, but so far the testing has gone pretty smoothly (knock on wood). The objective is to replace the existing set of batch files and shortcuts with a simple, graphical program that's data driven. The data consists of the list of all the BMPs making up the US/FF vehicles (and guns, and eventually infantry, probably), the Commonwealth vehicles and a set of rules to be applied for each of the existing batch file transformations (e.g. British, Canadian, US low visibility, etc.). All the existing Allied batch file mods work with CM Mod Option Selector (once you install a "patch" mod that fixes some screwed up names for BMPs in some of the older mods) and new mods designed for CMMOS are much easier to create since you don't need to create/modify batch files, you simply need to follow the naming convention for each transformation you want to support. In short, it's a miracle. Gordon
12. Well, I'm not really a mod master but I do have some irons in the fire. Now let's see, where's that list ... Madmatt's got whitewashed versions of Fernando's great Pz IV, Pz VA, Pz VG, PSW, SdKfz 250 and SdKfz 251 mods. CM Mod Option Selector - a program to replace the current set of Allied batch files, so no more shortcuts to maintain and no more worrying if you've got the right version of the batch files installed. Camouflaged versions of Marco's wonderful M8/M20. The "full Monty" treatment of Magua's halftracks (UK, Canadian, Polish, UK Camo, US, US low viz, Cavalry, US Camo and Free French). Camouflaged versions of M. Shane "Feldgrau" Petterson's cool Sexton mod. Actually 2 different versions to choose from in one convenient mod (a new version of my original "147th (Essex Yeomanry)" low res mod and a new Guards Armoured Division version to match my other UK camo mods). Snow-covered versions of Fernando's Pz IV, Pz VA, Pz VG, PSW, SdKfz 250 and SdKfz 251 mods. Hmmm, I think that's it, but I could be missing something. Gordon
13. Thanks all, looks like we've got enough testers for now. I appreciate the interest. Hopefully, if all goes well with the test, you'll all be using it soon anyway. Gordon
14. Hello?!? Is there anybody out there? (bump) Gordon
15. I'm looking for a few (not too many) volunteers to help test the program I've been working on to replace the batch file system (as used by Marco Bergman's and my mods, among others). What will be involved? Installing a small software package, a "patch" mod that fixes a number of inconsistencies in the existing mod file naming scheme, running some of the conversions (e.g. "Free French", "US Cavalry") and then going in game and checking all the vehicles to make sure they look "right". And, of course, reporting any bugs back to me. I'm particularly interested in folks running CM:BO on OSs other than Windows 98 (which is what I use, and SORRY, NO MAC support) to ensure that the installation and configuration works. Also, volunteers should have most if not all of the "batch file-enabled" mods installed. If interested, please send e-mail to me at "g.molek@att.net". Thanks, Gordon
16. Err, AussieJeff, Are you sure that shouldn't read "Original design by Mike T based on a Fernando classic"? Those look like Fernando's new Pz IVs to me. Gordon
17. I've tried contacting you via e-mail (but maybe it's an old address) concerning your halftrack mods. Please contact me at "g.molek@att.net". Thanks, Gordon
18. I've asked Magua's permission to do a full set of national versions of his halftracks. Gordon
19. Amateurs! I've already done the "Herbie The Love Kublewagen" mod. Mike8g, not bad. Pawbroon, horrendous. Gordon
20.
quote:
Originally posted by bfamily33: ****** Here's hoping someone does a Tiger in that camo scheme. ****** ****** Fernando / Gordon ??? I hoping you're reading this ******* [ 06-14-2001: Message edited by: bfamily33 ]

That's somewhat like the "hasty" Pz IV mod I just released based on Fernando's latest Pz IV. Once Fernando does a nice new Tiger I that'll be an easy mod (if he doesn't beat me to it). Gordon
21. Pawbroon, "Love" is too strong a word. Maybe, "If I shut my eyes real tight it doesn't hurt so much" is a better description of my feelings. I'll give you this much, I'd have never thought of it. Gordon
22. Ya know, there's actually some stuff in good taste in this update too. "Sorry Gordon, Mod sluts don't want mods with good taste, Mod sluts want mods that taste good." Gordon
23. Well, you could always pick the 5 BMPs (I believe) out of that mod (13600.bmp - 13604.bmp) and make your own mini-mod. Gordon
