1.
quote:
Originally posted by panzeranklopfgeraet: Technical Difficulties.. Hi Guys!!could use some technical advice.Just downloaded CMMOS(Thanks Gordon!!) unzipped it into it's default folder, and doubleclicked the icon. I got a dialog window that reads"unable to open 'C:\windows\temp\CMMOSlog.txt'. I clicked OK and got this dialog "Access violation at address 00420AEF in module 'cmmos.exe' read of address FFFFFFFF. clicked ok and CMMOS crashed.Could this be some type of internal conflict in my system? I noticed in CMMOS setupthat before I clicked finish, I had the option to read the .rtf and/or launch CMMOS.Are there supposed to be checkmark boxes under this text? It was just empty space with a finish button in the lower corner of the window.I clicked finish and it went back to the desktop.Downloaded and installed it two more times with the same results.Any help would be appreciated. I got the whole weekend to "CMMOS" my bmp folder. It would be a shame not to be able to get started. Thanks in advance, and a nice weekend to all of you who CAN use this super program. Auf Wiedersehen.

Ok, I'm not sure how this never came up in testing, but you are the third person with this problem. If you create the folder "C:\Windows\Temp" everything should be fine. Gordon
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Olle Petersson: I haven't noticed it anywhere else. /Olle

Olle, Just did a quick check. The MG shield (3216.bmp) is also used for the ends of the schuerzen, the braces of the schuerzen, and most noticably, a portion of the hull front underneath the mantlet. Just FYI, Gordon
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Manx: I hope this CMMOS program and it's format becomes THE standard for distributing mods that come with "optional extras" (as most seem to do nowadays). I've already had the privilege of seeing it in action, and IT ROCKS! -- Great Work Gordon! [ 08-29-2001: Message edited by: Manx ]

Manx, Thanks. I would like to just state for the record here that I believe that CM Mod Manager (CMMM) and CM Mod Option Selector (CMMOS) are complimentary tools that when used together are better than the individual tools used separately. Therefore, all the CMMOS mods that I create (and remember, all mods will not necessarily have to be CMMOS mods) will be CMMM-enabled. Why? Because CMMM enables creation of a hierarchy of mods which allows you to always restore your BMP directory to a certain known state. Also, there will be cases where it simply won't make sense to create a CMMOS method to handle a mod's unique, options (e.g. I want to choose between leather and velour seats for my Kubelwagen). However, choosing the Canadian version of 15 separate Marco and company mods is a little too cumbersome in CMMM, but is exactly what CMMOS was designed to handle. Well, off my soap-box and back into my dungeon to continue working on mods. Gordon
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: So I guess I need to reinstall all the batch file mods so that I have all the optional files in the bmp folder. I guess it doesn't matter in which order I install the files since CMMOS is only going to need the bmp files and not the batch files. Is this correct? It's a good thing I saved all the zip files.

Yes, 100% correct. Gordon
 5. If you've mangled the batch file mods' installations, you'll need to re-install them to restore your full set of choices. Since that sort of scenario hadn't occured to me, I'm not 100% sure how CMMOS will handle it. HOWEVER, be assured that just like the original batch files, CMMOS will NEVER delete any of the BMPs. It simply copies the selected optional BMP (e.g. "3008_us.bmp") over the run-time BMP (e.g. "3008.bmp"). Once you are satisfied that CMMOS is working properly, you are free to remove all the old batch files, shortcuts and icons. HOWEVER, don't delete Fernando's shortcuts, etc., until he finishes the CMMOS RuleSet(s) to cover his mods. Gordon [ 08-29-2001: Message edited by: Gordon ]
 6. The dunkel grau SdKfz 251 series (summer and winter versions) are with Fernando for final testing/approval, along with about a billion other mods , and once he's given them his seal of approval it's off for posting, so figure a couple of months. Gordon
 7. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to create Mac executables. The program was written in Borland C++ Builder, and beyond the GUI-handling stuff, the logic is pretty straight-forward. If there's any Mac programmers out there who'd be interested in porting it, I'd be willing to share the code with them (and help as much, or as little, as I'm able). Gordon And yes, I find writing the rules pretty easy, but I do this crap for a living and I was partially responsible for the evolution of the batch files, so that probably makes me legally insane.
 8. Ok, here's a little clarification. Existing "batch file" mods mostly work with CMMOS. I say "mostly" because there were some inconsistencies in file names in some of the earlier mods. There is a "patch" mod that fixes all of these glitches which comes in both a hi-res and lo-res version (CMMOS_Patches_hr.zip/CMMOS_Patches_lr.zip). Once you've installed one or the other of these patches, then all the existing batch file mods will work without any glitches. The list of mods "patched" and the files included are (from the documentation of the patch mods): Marco Bergman's M4 mod (Bergman_All_US_FF_M4_HR.zip): 3221_us.bmp, 3224_us.bmp, and 3227_us.bmp. Marco Bergman's Firefly mod (firefly_highres_all3.zip): 3293_uk.bmp, 3295_uk.bmp 3298_uk.bmp, 3334_uk.bmp, 3891_uk.bmp, 3893_uk.bmp, 3895_uk.bmp, and 3896_uk.bmp. TheDesertFox's Ram Kangaroo mod (ram_kangaroo2.zip): 3542_uk.bmp, 3543_uk.bmp, 3544_uk.bmp, 3547_uk.bmp, and 3548_uk.bmp. Marco Bergman's Stuart mod (Bergman_Stuart_M8_hr.zip): 3563_uk.bmp, 3564_uk.bmp, 3567_uk.bmp, 3568_uk.bmp, 4431_us.bmp, 4432_us.bmp, and 4433_us.bmp. M. Shane "feldgrau" Peterson's M3A1 'White' scout car mod (m3a1_batch.zip): 3625_uk.bmp, and 3625_us.bmp. Marco Bergman's Rubber bloc tracks (included in various mods): 4023_uk.bmp, 4023_uk_bloc.bmp, 4023_us.bmp, and 4023_us_bloc.bmp. Marco Bergman's Sherman III/V mod (sherman3_highres.zip): 4553_uk.bmp, 4554_uk.bmp, 4555_uk.bmp, 4557_uk.bmp, and 4558_uk.bmp. Hope this helps clear things up. 9. Well, here's my interpretation of "Dunkel Grau" using Fernando's SdKfz 251s. While I agree that these would not be common in the CM:BO timeframe, there where probably a few around, and Wise in "D-Day to Berlin" has a drawing of a SdKfz 250/8 with a "stick" pattern of rot brun over dunkel grau. btw, Olle, you might want to double check, but probably the reason I left the MG shield solid yellow was that the texture is re-used somewhere else on the model. If that doesn't bother you, go for it. Just wanted you to be warned. Gordon [ 08-29-2001: Message edited by: Gordon ]
 10. Actually, in going back through my mystical book of incantations for summoning new mods, I can't seem to find that spell for invoking the Churchill. Since I don't want to put my foot in my mouth by praying to the wrong deity (who knows what we might end up with, a hi-res H-39 mod in ambush camouflage? The mind recoils in horror), suffice it to say that I know of at least 1 hi res Churchill mod in progress and that the results will be well worth the wait. Thank you for your kind words. Gordon
 11. Well, I don't really consider myself to be a "mod god", more like a "24th level mod-cleric" really. However, I have seen a very nice Churchill in-progress from a "mod god" not on your pantheon. I'll leave it as an exercise for the student to figure out who it is. Gordon
 12. I said I uploaded all the stuff, I didn't say they had them posted yet. Unfortunately, with the volume of stuff represented in this update, it may be awhile. Like I said, you'll have to start pestering Madmatt and Manx. Gordon
 13. Hey! Lemme see your union card. Dat's what I tought. Youse ain't got one. Well lemme tell ya somethin' Nobody works mods on dis dock what's ain't got no union card. So, youse better get one before I sees ya ugly mug around deese docks, or else. Actually, speaking for one of the alledged batch file conglomerate illuminati, I welcome all mods (and use many that are not part of any "system", and have even created a few "here and dere"). Gordon Also, I think you'll find that the conglomerati are (for the most part, Maximus not withstanding) nice, friendly folks, and we've corrupted (I mean absorbed, I mean welcomed) many a former outsider into our fold. That is, if you're interested. [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Gordon ]
 14. Talking about Patton and his opposition to the T25E1 program, New Vanguard # 35 "M26/M46 Pershing Tank" by Zaloga, Bryan and Laurier has a great quote: "Although Patton was unquestionably the finest practitioner of mechanized combat in the US Army in World War II, his technical judgment was frequently poor. General Bruce Clarke, who commanded US armored units during the tank battles in Lorraine in September 1944 and at St. Vith in the Ardennes in December 1944 later remarked: 'Patton knew as little about tanks as anyone I know'." Just FYI, Gordon
 15. Well, CMMOS and the "Whole mess 'o mods " have been uploaded to Madmatt and Manx, so y'all can go pester them now. Gordon
 16. Oh what the hell, it's not THAT bad, I guess I'll take a copy. For the humor-impared, these are fantastic, and a must have (once they're released). Gordon [ 08-18-2001: Message edited by: Gordon ]
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Tanks a Lot: Anybody else having problems with 327.bmp? Monty, I can e-mail you the file if you want.

Yes, I just got the error. Could you e-mail a replacement to "g.molek@att.net"? Thanks, Gordon
 18. Manx, Just wanted to know if you got my e-mail regarding hosting of "CM Mod Option Selector" (the replacement for the batch files used by many mods) and the whole mess 'o mods (some new, some modified) to go with it. Contact me at "g.molek@att.net" and we can discuss further. Thanks, and welcome back, I trust Majorca was sunny? Gordon
 19. Manx, You back from Majorca (or however the hell it's spelled) yet? Gordon
 20. Well who would have thought that at the height of battle, the German Kampfgruppe Commander would take a little vacation? Just like Rommel before D-Day. And in his absence his blood-thirsty troops have begun committing war crimes by killing POWs. Oh the inhumanity. Gordon
 21. Any day now. Just waiting for the right astrological alignment. Gordon
 22. Hurrah for Madmatt. And of course for Paul for his very cool variant Panther. Gordon Hey Paul. "Moo!" (hint, hint)
 23. Again, not to pick nits, but I want to clarify a couple of points that have been made since my last clarification post. Use of existing batch file-enabled mods with CMMOS will not require re-downloading all the mods over again. Only a small-ish "patch" mod is required to "fix" a few of the existing batch file-enabled mods. If you want to use CMMOS to quickly and easily swap between snow-covered and whitewashed versions of the Allied AFVs (and soon German AFVs), you'll want to download the new CMMOS versions of several mods (we never created a winter batch file system). Similarly, there will be other CMMOS-enabled versions of existing mods (see Maximus' comments regarding uniform mods), but it is up to each person to decide which CMMOS-enabled mods to download (or not). Maximus, You better e-mail me some clarification on your question, I don't quite follow what you are asking. A RuleSet can have a (sufficiently) large number of different Rules, each of which can have a large number of Options. Gordon
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: I don't think the mod manager can handle all the options available with these mods.

Well, yes and no actually. It's primarily a difference in outlook. I've had this conversation (on this board) with TwoSheds in the past, and I'm not averse to possibly working towards "merging" the CM Mod Manager and CM Mod Option Selector functionality in the future. The primary difference in funtionality is that CM Mod Manager is focused on installing a single mod at a time in a very flexible way. CM Mod Option Selector, however is geared towards applying the same transformation across multiple mods (potententially involving every BMP in the game). To acheive the same effect with CM Mod Manager requires many more actions to select, for instance, the Canadian versions of all the mods that support UK and Canadian versions and re-installing them, whereas CM Mod Option Selector requires just a couple of clicks. Neither is inherently better or worse, they're just different. Gordon
