No gunpowder is truly 100% smokeless. And in fact, the gunpowder used by all WWII combatants could be called "smokeless" when compared to the 19th-century blackpowder -- anyone who ever fired a blackpowder muzzleloader knows what I mean.

But my understanding is that the powder the Germans used in WWII was somewhat better than what the Allies had at the time, in that it produced even less smoke.
