  1. Thanks for the reply, LLF - sure, real life comes first. However, maybe you’ll find the time to work on the maps again someday. I wish you good luck for your new job.
  2. Is this project still a work in progress or has it been cancelled? I enjoyed LLF's Ramadi map immensely and would love to see more such detailed maps for CMBN. Concerning the maps I mentioned in my previous post: after a longer break I continued to work on it. I returned from my Normandy trip yesterday during which I took a lot of photos which will help me design more accurate maps. I visited many important battle sites of the VIIth and Vth Corps (including OMAHA/UTHA beach, Monmtmartin en-Graignes, Grandcamp, Hill 108, Martinville Ridge, Vire area ect.).
  3. @ Aragorn2002: I currently focus on US battle sites – but who knows what future brings? @ Broadsword: Done - but I didn't mark my Hill 108 map. There are already other marks on that specific spot.
  4. @sburke: Thank you for the links! I know what I am going to do with my spare time for the next few days! @broadsword: I second that! Currently I am working on two Maps: Grandcamp-les-Bains and Montmartin-en-Graignes. I will open a thread for announcement purposes as soon as I can.
  5. Beautifully made map, broaswoard – can’t believe I never stumbled across it until now! Are you currently working on some new maps? What texture mods are you using btw – I like the colour of the foliage. With the mod mix I use, the leaves appear more like green-yellow. To your question: Yes, I eyeballed it to get the scale and locations and placements right – it worked quite well for me but thanks for the HTML Mapping Tool tip – will try it out asap...
  6. Glad you like it Broadsword – it took me quite some time to complete this map and it’s good to see it was worth the effort! "particular fields that have a different crop type, or the Hotel au Heup hill not appearing to be as elevated in this map" It was quite difficult for me to choose the crop type. In the attached photo you can see yellow fields (that’s wheat, I suppose) and dark and lighter grey areas. I guessed that the longer the grass, the more dark grey it appears on the picture. I don’t know if that’s a correct assumption or not. Do you have any suggestions for this issue broadsword? Concerning the elevation, I have two sources that say Hill 108 was not a real hill at all. In fact, it had no strategic value because artillery spotters had limited LOS. The same source also says that one standing on Hill 108 did not even recognise he stood upon a hill top. It gave me the same impression when I checked this with google earth. ]http:// Next map: Grandcamp-Maisy, btw!
  7. Ah okay, good to hear LLF. My offer still stands - just drop me PM if you like. @mjkerner: the file is already available at the repository.
  8. @sburke: done – the file should be available soon. Feedback is always welcome! Regards, Heckenschütze
  9. Thanks permanent! The Vierville map is completed. I also finished a Hill 108 Map. Interested?
  10. What is the status of this project - has it been cancelled? I would like to help - if help is needed. Regards, Heckenschütze
  11. Yes, indeed. The video offers good insight into bocage fighting. The following link focuses on the battle which took place there. Very interesting ... Link:
  12. Steve Melnikoff, C Co, 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry, 29th Division, on Hill 108 near Villers-Fossard, Normandy, France on June 7, 2009. Melnikoff describes the battle on Hill 108 by his unit. Link:
  13. The officer on the left is Hasso von Manteuffel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasso_von_Manteuffel The man on the right could be Willy Langheit, leader of the Panzer-Regiment "Großdeutschland". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willy_Langkeit Kind regards, Heckenschütze
  14. IMO "Veins Germans"-Mod is an absolute Must Have... http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=97263
  15. Problem solved. After rebooting everything works fine now. Many thanks again broadsword for this fine map!
  16. Same prob here. I even downsized the map to approx 1000x1000 and I still get a CTD - that's quite strange. System: Intel Core II CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz 2.39GHz RAM: 4 GB System: Win7, 64-bit Display adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5700 However, thank you broadsword for your efforts. Creating this huge map must have been a nice piece of work!
  17. Hi, I recognized the best place for foxholes are bocage corners. Here, every soldier remained in their hole after placing a hedgerow over it – except for one hole. So I made a break near the empty foxhole and positioned a Panzerschreck team in it. Now, when things get too hot, they can retreat behind the hedge to regroup. This method not only provides the best cover and optimal LOS, it’s also historically accurate. The Germans favoured these places for their defence.
  18. Nice to hear that the link is useful for you. Yes, Close Combat had some really nice features. Especially the game's strategic (strategic map) and tactical components (unit selection) are features I miss in CM too.
  19. Some of you may still remember the great Close Combat series – my gateway drug in RTT gaming. This site gives you a nice overview of all Maps included in Close Combat: “The longest Day” and is a good help for mapping. Link: http://www.beleggingsleer.be/closecombat/maps/ Most of the maps are quite accurate and rich in detail. Hope it is a useful link for some of you! Regards, Heckenschütze
