xian
Could someone explain why when you split a squad into an assault team the ASSAULT movement option disappears for the assaulting unit? Surely the team (which is given the assault option) with the machine gun should provide covering fire and not be part of the assault section - or have I got it wrong?
Lanzfeld
Because the assault command is for un unsplit squad. When you split it yourself you have better control of the assault team. Quick them forward while your BAR guy give cover.
gunnersman
To add to Lanzfeld, its redundant. The whole point of the assault command is when your squad is not split. Otherwise, if they are split you can attempt an assault leap frog on your own using the pause command. Otherwise the assault command handles the split teams for you automatically, but with out splitting them with the split command.
Sergei
'Assault' command is misleadingly named. What it means is a leapfrogging advance where a squad advances one team at a time while the other team gives support. A single team cannot use this command. Meanwhile, you can separate an 'assault team' from the squad, with more firepower than a normal team for storming enemy positions.
Lanzfeld
A very important liability with respect to the assault command. If the assault team gets shot at and supressed or pinned then the WHOLE SQUAD IS EFFECTED. Even the guys giving the covering fire. This is why it is always better to split the squads and do it manually. Then the supression is seperate.

Lanzfeld
Nope. Been that way since CMSF. Just split your squads to assault.
