Michael Emrys
Let me get this straight... Joe Shaw, THE Joe Shaw of Justicar infamy, just produced a post with an actual and relevant fact? Since that issue had already been adequately addressed earlier in the thread, the relevancy was, shall we say, rather watered down. Yeah, I definitely forgot DDs were used for the Rhein crossing. Maybe also in the Schledt Estuary amphibious assault? I think some version of the Buffalo was, but I have yet to hear of DD Shermans. It would be interesting to know just what equipment was employed. Here's a question: Does anybody know if DD Shermans were ever used in Italy? Michael
Michael Emrys
Will Aquaman be included? Can he fight mermaids? Wet, slippery mermaids... And will Daryl Hannah be available as a mermaid model? Michael
Battlefront.com
I know M29Cs, DUKWs, and of course assault craft were used at Schledt and for the Rhein crossings. Steve
Sequoia
You're not hinting we might get amphibious vehicles even if we don't get beach landings are you? The M29c is the Water Weasel right? (I hope this doesn't start up the weasel jokes again)
Dietrich
Ballistics: underwater ballistics. Yeah, now if THAT isn't modelled, I'll refuse to EVER purchase ANYTHING from BF.C again. Er, except for cool games. I want realistic ballistics. Angle of entry which determines ricochets (which are tracked, of course), or if the angle is steep enough, entry. Sometimes bullets/shells will enter, then due to cavitation effects, re-emerge. All these trajectories need to be modelled as well as their terminal effects. I can't be the only person on this forum who has seen the Mythbusters episode in which they fired a variety of rifle-type guns into the water of an indoor swimming pool at an angle of about 23 degrees and from an average distance of about 5 feet, and even a .50-cal. round broke into many fragments at a depth (i.e., distance from point of entry into the water at an initial angle of about 23 degrees) of only 3 feet.
Battlefront.com
No, we are not planning on amphib ops in CMx2 any time soon. Certainly not for Normandy. As stated a few posts ago (by moi), there is so much more to it than just having a vehicle graphical 1/2 submerged while crossing water. Because of the rarity of such events, we don't feel the effort is worth it. Steve
c3k
Aye, Dietrich, I saw that; all I can say is that it proves a specific result at a specific angle and distance. Their test showed nothing about ricochet angle, velocity, cavitation effects (some really cool shots of double cavitation on that super slow motion TV series), etc. If my bullets hit short of a landing craft, how many will, due to ricochet effect (with self-correcting cavitation), hit perpendicular to the side of the landing craft? Penetration results, etc. Frogmen with limpet mines; that would be reason enough to model water ballistics. How deep do they swim to be safe? Modern rifles have much higher muzzle velocities than WWII. Fragmentation would be different. Oooh, so much to do.... Ken
JonS
I'm pretty sure there were no DDs at the Scheldt. Apart from anything else, the 'beaches' on the Island were far too muddy.
