bassplayer192837
I bought the base CMSF game at a store near me. I was thinking about getting the marines mod and the british mod when it came out. If I get the mods from the website and download them will it work for my cd version of the game?

Panzerfest
I've got it running on vista64.
Paper Tiger
It doesn't matter what version of CMSF you originally purchased, (from BFC, Paradox or Gamersgate but I suspect your have the Paradox version). The Marines module will work with it, and the Brits will work the same way too. BTW, I have Vista 64 bit Home and I've never had any problems with the game either. Turning off User Account Control is a good idea if you use Vista.

c3k
donnieitaly, I feel your pain. I started using Vista64 Ultimate a 18 months ago. It has some automated file handling processes which are significantly different from XP and these have caused me some confusion and difficulties. Once I resolved these issues it has been running extraordinarily well. The biggest issue was the automatic folder creation and installation routine for CMSF. Vista created TWO separate (but linked) locations for CMSF and duplicate folders. Some had files in them, some did not. This occurred when I chose the default installation options. A symptom of this is difficulty finding the savegames. I believe you posted about that. The solution I wanted had to keep all the CMSF files and folders in the same directory. What I did was totally erase the game from my harddrive. Next, I did a clean install, BUT I specified a NEW directory, C:\Battlefront. (Yeah root directories and all that. Whatever.) Now, all is good. Every file, folder, savegame, mod, update, download, humiliating defeat and bare victory are located where _I_ want them to be and where I can find them. Doing a clean install like that may help you. Good luck, Ken
donnieitaly
Wot!! There is more than one version of Vista!!!!!!! How do I tell which one I've got? And why is God treating ME this way?
stoex
Because God uses Vista as well, donnieitaly. It's just a bug that they will address with SP 14 or 15, I believe. And God gets a priority download for all SPs, so you'll be fine by, oh, say, 2022 or sumfink. They say it was a hard sell but not even God can oppose Steve Ballmer .
donnieitaly
No I mean the real God, not the Microsoft version :-) My problem is that some battles are so "sticky" (It can take 20 seconds to move a firing point on to a target, or 20 seconds to get a Move order "lined in" and then another 20 until I can do the next way point.) and some aren't. Size makes no difference. The Pooh mission works fine yet the "Al Hawal" scenario is the sticky one I mentioned above. And bear in mind folks this is THE ONLY GAME I have on my computer! <<<Sob>>>

Falconander
donnieitaly, Not sure if it will help but right click on the game icon and click "Run as Admin". It has helped me with several games where Vists was giving some issues. Now come to think of it TOW (Battlefront) was where learned that from. oh... and are you sure it is the computer... Actually I had Red Pepper doing wierd things last night. Blue Bar was taking anout 1 minute to load. I finally had to reboot. But the Run as Admin buy right clicking the Icon is a awesome quick fix for some things....
WHLNH
Vista64 Premium here and works like a charm! Bill
WHLNH
I can also vouch for the need to "run as administrator" for a number of games since going to Vista64. Just for example, Jultand will run fine if one just double clicks, but will not install any automatic patches. One must "run it as administrator" to have the patches load. You can right click on the game .exe icon and, in Properties" select the game to defualt to always automatically "run as administrator". I used to be able to find my C drive, but that was with my TRS-80, or for that matter with XP. With Vista - ?????????? Continued Pooh this evening. Ran like a greyhound. Smooth, violent luverly. exe.icon? That's in Red Square innit?
