  1. Glad to hear I am not he only one having problems. I crashed my system and had to wipe everything out and reinstall my operating system and, thus, all my Battlefront games. MAN, What a pain! At the end of the day, though few went flawless, reinstalling CM Normandy with ALL its modules and updates has been horrible. I put in codes it tells me they are invalid, they are not, but put in the wrong code and it might take! Or I'll put in the 3.0 upgrade or vehicle update and not only does it not take, but it deletes my modules that had been successfully installed! This should not be so difficult. Having said that, I have been changing multiple, I mean multiple, emails with Battlefront support to try to get these games installed and I must say they have provided outstanding service in helping me. I appreciate and thank them for that.
  2. "Unfortunately XP will only use around (see no more than) 3 gigs of ram maximum. If your computer has six gigs or more the OS will not see it and it will never be used. This is one of the benefits of Vista and now 7. If a computer has eight gigs of ram packed in, the new operating systems now recognize that its present and can use all of it. I'll live with having to apply admin rights for the ability to use the extra ram." I don't know about 7, and I believe Vista 64 bit will read all the memory you speak of. However, I do believe Vista 32 bit is limited to 4 gig. Bill
  3. I'll have to go back and try again, but twice I did put in the selection criteria for a "generated' battle (picked sides, left all other random) and then selected "launch". Got a message, don't recall what but I don't think it was "saving", but nothing more happened. Just before leaving for work I did start a tutorial, so that worked for a little while until I quit, but no luck with the generator. Bill
  4. I really must be missing something. I am up to turn 192, ro so, against a veteran AI, been at war with Germany from fairly early on and have not seen hardly any German units (having uncovered half the globe) and maybe two units of the 3rd nation, with whom I am not at war. Not one city attacked by the computer, nothing. I can only assume there must be something wrong with specific settings. I've started a new game, up to around turn 60, large map, elite AI, have not yet encountered any computer forces. Interesting. Bill
  5. Maybe you are on to something, may not be all the problem but maybe it contributes, especially since the testers allege they saw a lively AI. You declared war, I ordered a sneak attack on Germany (but the status screen does show me at war with Germany). Maybe the AI isn't really triggered unless War is actually declared. On the other hand, it does not explain why I have only now seen my first French unit (I'm the US) and I still have not seen many German units (probably around 10 and I'm close to turn 200 with close to 1/2 the world under my control). Bill
  6. That's great to hear, I did not think they did. I did have plans launch from a carrier and then crash as the carrier moved during their flight. I'm thinking now that maybe the problem was the carrier moved in a direction that increased the flight path to a point where the plane crashed not because the carrier moved but because the plane ran out of fuel due to an extended flight. Assuming that to be so, players should just be careful of that when moving a carrier. Bill
  7. "I've been playing on a 2000x2000 map, 3 elite AI opponents. So far, no one has attacked me, the computer players have expanded very litte. They've built no aircraft. The one enemy that I am at war with is the one that I attacked. They do not attack each other either....." XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Yup, as I continue to play I am sad to say that at this time folks should probably stay away from the game. Simply put, there is no AI in this game, so if you enjoy playing lengthy games, like this, solo it simply is not ready for prime time. I agree that I am not used to something being released in this much of a beta stage under the Battlefront banner, so am disappointed with them. I'm sure Brit is committeed to the game, but with an AI this underdeveloped it is questionable, to me at least, that it can ever be brought up to where it should be. Just my opinion folks, I really want to see this game succeed as I remember many long and enjoyable hours with Empire in my past and with the graphics and functionality this one adds it has great promise. Just can't recommend buying it at this time. Bill
  8. Just for the record, still getting "freezes". Windows shows the program is still "running", but the only thing I can do is shut the game down from Windows. I cannot minimize the screen, can X the screen closed, can't do anything in the game, everything I click just gives me a "ping" sound and I need to control-alt-delete to get to Windows to shut the application down. Bill
  9. Having grown-up on Empire on the mainframe I was looking forward to this game. My first impression was not disappointing. The game reminded me of my beloved Empire, but taking on characteristics of the Civilization series. I have been somewhat disappointed in the AI. I am playing against 2 computer opponents on Veteran AI, I control about 1/3 of the map and am at war with one player. I have yet to have any of my cities attacked and other than one or two encounters, I think with enemy transports, have not encountered any enemy units. For that matter, I have yet to encounter any units of the third nation. I have, however, seen resources taken over by the other two players. I am up to turn 175 and have had the game freeze on my at least three or four times. It did not happen near the beginning of the game, but now seems to be happening more freqently. If you enjoyed the Empire series you will initially take to this game. I am getting concerned with the freezes and hoping I did something wrong to have created the lack of any properly controlled AI opponent. I'll have to try to verify I didn't select "easy", but I want to say I clearly remember purposely selecting Veteran as I frequently play my first game of anything on easy and ratched it up as I progress or start a new game. Bill
  10. I can also vouch for the need to "run as administrator" for a number of games since going to Vista64. Just for example, Jultand will run fine if one just double clicks, but will not install any automatic patches. One must "run it as administrator" to have the patches load. You can right click on the game .exe icon and, in Properties" select the game to defualt to always automatically "run as administrator". Bill
  11. Vista64 Premium here and works like a charm! Bill
  12. Can't help with a solution, but I can say I am having the same, or similar, problem with Afrika Corp and Berlin. Overlord does not have the problem(!?!). The battlefield itself is fine but there seems to be a square around the battlefiled that keeps shimmering. I've tried playing a numerous resolutions. I've had these games "forever" and have never had a problem until loading them on my new Gateway Vista64 machine with Geforce 8500 card. I certainly hope someone has an idea on this. Bill
  13. "I've had a similar experience with one large map (the Factory Outlet battle) and my theory is that the size of the maps has a direct bearing on this problem." Oh man, yes!! It is a slow slide show to play this map. I wonder if anyone plays it with no lag issues?!? If I position the camear near the city and look back at the US forces there is no hesitation, the camera moves perfectly but if I put the camera where the US troops are and point it towards the factory the game becomes unplayable. There really aren't anymore US units than in other maps and the graphis for the factory is no more intense that other maps so I wonder if the problem is really the backgroud, such as the mountains in the distance. Bill
  14. OUCH! What happened? I downloaded the Paradox CD 1.02 patch today (the 14th) and a game that used to run fine with shadows and trees turned off now runs in staccato bursts with them turned off! I have an 18 month old machine with plenty of ram, dual core, and an ATI X300 video. But again, the performance was better prior to the 1.02 patch! Bill
