Boo Radley
This has happened twice to me in the last week during PBEM games from two different people. In one, I got a file that was a little over 700kb in size. When I went to play it, as usual, I hit the "Multiplayer" button and then clicked on the file in my PBEM folder. Then, instead of the file loading, I was sent back to the page that has the "Multiplayer" button. I had my opponent replay the file and resend it. It came back at over 1200kb and opened with no problems. Last night it happened again with another player. I told him to replay and send. Hopefully, he will tonight. Now, I'm playing the first guy in version 1.0 and the other in version 1.01, so I don't think this is a problem. Also, the first guy who replayed the move said that it processed much quicker the second time. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Walker
Bump. Anyone had similar problems, with MSN for example? Movie files arriving smaller than attached?

easytarget
since msn appears to be the connection, you'd have to think that just perhaps the ISP is the problem wonder if anyone else with MSN will pop in and we can get some further confirmation
Major Mojo
Originally posted by easytarget: wonder if anyone else with MSN will pop in and we can get some further confirmationWell, here I am Had these similar problems few times. And using MSN. Last time I asked my opponent to resend the file, didn't make any good because again there was parts missing. Finally, after few try, and remade PBEM -file, whole file got through.

Walker
You mean you hit GO again to regenerate the file or you actually replayed the whole move? And then the file transfer worked fine?
Boo Radley
With me, I had both opponents replay the last move (don't recall if it was a movie or orders move) and resend. On both occasions the resend worked fine. MSN...they just keep getting better and better, don't they?
Boo Radley
And it just happened with a THIRD PBEM opponent! This time regenerating the file didn't do any good. This is a recent development with MSN, or whatever it is that's causing it. How recent has it been for anyone else out there? And does any web mavens have any idea why this should happen? I mean portions of a text file in an e-mail suddenly vanishing? How? This is really starting to get old.
kmead
This is a known issue with all large PBEM files of 500k and above. In order to get them through the various ISPs between two opponents, it is neccessary to ZIP or Stuffit the files. This ensures that the file is smaller (in some cases) and that a checksum is done at transmission and receipt to ensure file integrity. It is often noted when you use MS Outlook as your email front end.
Boo Radley
OK, I could see where that might be a problem, but two of the three files were well under 500k. The latest one that's been giving me problems is only 27ks. I'll ask my oponent to try zipping it, nonetheless, just to see if it helps matters.
LtCol.05
Also, if anyone is performing an outbound email scan, that could be it. My Norton Antivirus was messing up all my sent PBEM files, zipped or not! Turned off sent email scan and all is OK again!

Thin Red Line
Japper, Let's see if it improves. Not sure if i receive 'partial' files of just corrupted ones. [ April 29, 2003, 03:27 AM: Message edited by: Thin Red Line ]
