That's what's missing with the infantry. They need to be able to dig in - Setup fighting holes. They need defensive positions that's for sure. They need the ability to hide or setup ambushes. Something similar to combat missions where you can set a unit(robot) to a specific range to trip the ambush and remain hidden until a vehicle/unit enters the kill zone.

The infantry role in drop team needs to be looked at. I haven't really played too much with the mechanized assault plan.... Two paladins with two squads assaulting the objective. Supporting elements of a Thor 120mm or two apallo 120mm. Would it be effective....? Would it be worth the effort to setup the formation? The infantry have got to be able to capture facilities or call in Artillery. What would the infantry do when they got to the objective? Jump out - drop to the ground and start throwing rounds down range until the squads are gone. There must be more to it. The only way to do it now is to have all human players, lots of planning time and enormous amounts of luck.

Once the modded infantry support teams are part of the game, alot of what you are talking about can happen. You could even have an all infantry assault in certain conditions.

But the bots need to be better at handling infantry and it would be nice to be able to set up some engagement criteria, etc... Digging in might be beyond the scope of the game, but I did suggest that bunkers that can hold a turret or infantry be added to the game for base defense.

An "embark" and "disembark" command for infantry would be great too. Then you could mount up multiple bot squads and send them into to fray, order them to dismount and assault.

I think the infantry stuff is coming along great with REDCON's and Poesel's help. This game is evolving for the better.

Infantry auto-embarks as soon as you are at the invisible door spot. You can disembark with 'b' as driver and passenger.

Problem is to get the bots in the transport in first place. That is currently very difficult.

Digging has been discussed in depth before. One of the better ideas was the idea of shaped charges for creating trenches and similar emplacements quickly. Having infantry being able to place such explosives and then detonate them remotely, either as booby traps or for emplacements.

useing a exploives to dig in with, right now, is a bad idea. Blew my Squad to kingdom come. That was with just blast radius. No frag, no structal, and no pennatration. Still working the issue.
